Chapter 49: Let the Harvest Begin

After dancing for a few more minutes, Cael and Elowyn finally stepped out of the circle.

He wanted to ask her to lunch when Elowyn’s watch rang.

-Tring

Elowyn read the message and softly said,

"Looks like I got some work."

Cael eyed her reaction and asked,

"Need any help?"

Elowyn shook her head and replied,

"There is no need. There will be other stronger rankers available, and besides, I just need to attend the meeting."

Cael nodded while slowly releasing her hand.

"I see... Are you free for dinner?"

Elowyn smiled, turned back, and started walking away while saying,

"I will see what I can do."

She didn’t look back as she walked away, but her steps were slightly slower than usual.

The crowd gradually swallowed her figure, blending her into the busy streets.

He watched her until Elowyn completely disappeared from sight.

Cael stood there for a moment longer than necessary before muttering to himself,

"Is that a yes or no?"

Then he let out a quiet breath and turned away.

But he didn’t think much about it.

Cael’s eyes turned sharp as he stared at his hand, which was injured when he used Mana Sovereignty.

He already knew the reason why.

"Unmastered skill."

A faint sting spread across his fingers as he flexed his hand.

The damage wasn’t visible on the surface anymore, but the lingering strain inside his body was undeniable.

It was a clear warning.

Power without control wasn’t strength... it was self-destruction waiting to happen.

In this world, only after becoming a [Gold] ranker can one sense mana and enhance oneself using mana.

But some skills require mana enhancement while using them.

If the user’s body is not enhanced, then it will harm the user.

Those skills are called "Unmastered Skills."

This was exactly what happened to Cael.

And truthfully, he didn’t want to experience it again.

Now Cael wanted to do something about this issue.

Sure, he could overcome it by becoming a [Gold] ranker, but he still recalled the Monarch’s words,

"Damn this body."

If even an existence like her said that, was mana enhancement truly enough?

No. Cael was sure of it.

So, he needed something more powerful.

Cael had already thought about this. The answers he came up with were...

Regeneration, adaptable body, runic body, and so on.

’With regeneration, I can heal up, but it would be a waste if I had to get injured every time I used Mana Sovereignty.’

’Adaptable body... a passive body that can adapt to anything, but I doubt it would be able to adapt to the skill.’

’Runic body... I can use self-healing runes, regenerative runes, and passive mana absorption runes.’

’But the problem is these skills may not be able to withstand powerful backlash.’

’The last time I used Mana Sovereignty, it was just a simple mana nullification ray... but it almost broke my hand apart.’

’But if I am able to create these three skills and combine them... will it work? Maybe.’

In the end, the only answer he came up with was... resonance.

’I am sure the Monarch may have found a solution. If I get my hands on that skill, it would be very nice.’

’That said, I can’t just sit and do nothing.’

So, Cael decided to copy every skill he came across in the Talent Showcase.

Even if it was an F-rank class, he would copy it. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

Originally, Cael didn’t want to copy too many skills and get confused about what to use when facing enemies.

He wanted to do things in moderation without getting ahead of himself.

But he shook off that idea. Who knows what skill might come in handy in a random situation?

That said, what place is more suitable than a Talent Showcase, where thousands of people display their unique talents?

"Hm?"

Cael’s thoughts paused as a message came from the cautious wind clone.

["Main body, that arrogant guy is coming to the Talent Showcase."]

A helpless smile tugged at Cael’s lips.

’Speaking of clones, I need to find a self-detonation skill for them.’

’So, they can move freely... and explode themselves if it comes to the worst.’

Cael slowly walked into a building and entered the bathroom, casually looking around for any cameras.

Of course, he didn’t make it obvious.

Hiding behind the door, he bit his finger and let out a drop of blood.

Soon, it turned into Cael, it was the Black Lightning clone, the trash talker.

The clone opened its eyes and looked at Cael and the bathroom.

Cael nodded and said,

"Change your face and copy every skill you see."

Cael gave a few more instructions and calmly left the bathroom.

Around him, people moved in steady streams, some discussing strategies while others excitedly talked about the skills they had seen so far.

Occasional bursts of laughter and surprise echoed through the area, adding to the lively and competitive atmosphere of the Talent Showcase.

He took a deep breath before muttering to himself as he stepped into the crowd.

"Let the Harvest Begin."

And so, Cael and his clone started copying every skill they saw, even if it was a useless one.

...

The clone changed its hair and eyes to black.

Even its facial structure became slightly different.

It wore a simple mask that covered its nose and mouth.

The clone adjusted its posture slightly, mimicking a more relaxed stance as if blending into the crowd.

Its presence became less noticeable, its movements more natural.

To anyone observing, it was just another ordinary participant looking around in the Talent Showcase.

It slowly walked in the street when it heard,

"Hey Lisa, slow down, will you? I can’t keep up."

"Hehe, Benny, I won."

Hearing the kids chatter, a strange look appeared on the clone’s face, as if it realized something, and it cursed,

"That damn bastard... didn’t even give me a name yet."

"Ugh, this won’t do. I can’t depend on that idiot."

"I have to come up with one on my own."
