Chapter 16: Clones & Growth

Cael walked into his old training room.

After closing the door, he activated the sound barrier and deactivated all surveillance cameras.

He removed his slippers and stepped onto the sand with his bare feet.

"It’s time."

Cael took a deep breath.

"Activate Fusion."

"Merge Shadow Bind (C), Shadow Zone (A), and Shadow Manifestation (B) into the element ’Shadow.’"

The system responded almost immediately.

...

[Fusion Complete]

[Shadow Element Attained]

[Mastery: 5%]

...

Cael nodded slightly.

That was only the first step.

He grinned.

"Merge element ’Shadow’ with element ’Lightning.’"

This was what he had truly been waiting for.

...

[Analysis Complete]

[Merging Shadow and Lightning has a high probability of producing the hybrid element: Black Lightning.]

[Do you wish to proceed with fusion?]

[Yes] [No]

...

’Black Lightning, huh.’

’If I remember correctly, Elowyn’s special element is Red Lightning.’

’Red and Black.’

Her Red Lightning carried the properties of fire.

His Black Lightning would carry the properties of shadow.

After a brief moment of consideration, Cael selected,

"Yes."

...

[Fusion Process Initiated]

[Stabilizing elemental contradiction...]

[Synchronizing mana flow...]

[Resolving elemental conflict...]

[Fusion Complete]

[You have obtained a Special Element: Black Lightning.]

...

Cael exhaled slowly.

"It’s done. Time to get to work."

Cael took his sword out of the space pouch.

While holding it, his gaze paused briefly on the engagement ring around his finger.

For a few seconds, he stared at it.

Then he withdrew his gaze.

Using the sharp edge of the blade, he cut his thumb and let several drops of blood fall onto the sand.

"Activate Cloning. Create all five major clones."

As soon as he spoke, the wind inside the training room shifted.

Mana gathered where the blood had fallen.

The five drops began to float.

They expanded, reshaped, and gradually transformed into figures identical to Cael.

All five stood silently with their eyes closed.

Cael stepped toward the nearest one.

He placed his index finger on the clone’s forehead and commanded,

"From now on, you are my Moonlight clone. Your personality will be competitive."

He moved to the next.

"You are my Frostflame clone. Your personality will be arrogant."

Then the third.

"You are my Black Lightning clone. Your personality will be... hm. A trash talker, maybe. Yes, let’s go with that."

He turned to the remaining two.

"You are my Wind clone. Your personality will be cautious."

"And finally, you are my Weapon Master clone. Your personality will be a training maniac."

He stepped back slightly.

"Now that I have assigned your roles... come alive."

The moment those words left his mouth, all five clones opened their eyes simultaneously.

They stared at him.

He stared back.

Then Cael spoke,

"We have a little over three weeks until the academy starts. Let’s train."

All five nodded.

Just as Cael was about to turn away, a voice spoke up.

"Hey. At least give us some names."

It was the Frostflame clone.

The Wind clone, standing slightly behind him, quickly added,

"D-don’t irritate him. What if he dispels us?"

The Black Lightning clone smacked the back of the Wind clone’s head and grinned.

"You’re such a scaredy cat. Why do you think that bastard summoned us? Because he needs us."

Meanwhile, the Moonlight clone stared at Cael intensely.

"Let’s fight."

While the others bickered, the Weapon Master clone quietly walked to the sidewall, took a sword from the rack, and began training without a word.

Cael watched them for a moment, slightly baffled.

"Well, I’ll give you names after I find a good disguise skill. Until then, focus on your respective elements."

"And Moonlight, Frostflame, Black Lightning. The three of you will spar every six-hour mark."

"Now go."

The clones dispersed immediately.

Cael walked to the corner of the room and sat down.

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

As his breathing stabilized, he began circulating mana through his body.

Days passed.

Cael’s routine did not change much.

Wake up late. Train. Eat. Train again. Watch his clones bicker and fight. Sleep.

He wasn’t that desperate.

He trained, yes, but not like a man cornered by fate.

Not like someone burning with revenge.

He trained lazily.

In fact, he skipped sessions from time to time.

But the clones were doing their jobs properly.

Moonlight pushed for dominance.

Frostflame refused to lose.

Black Lightning provoked fights just to sharpen reflexes.

Wind analyzed everything.

Weapon Master practiced without pause, repeating the same movements until precision became instinct.

Even if Cael slacked slightly, his overall growth never truly stalled.

When the results began to show, he couldn’t help but smile.

It was satisfying.

Days continued to pass.

During that time, Cael never once stepped outside the estate.

Three weeks went by.

And finally, the day of the Academy’s opening arrived.

...

Cael stood in front of the mirror.

He wore silver trousers and a purple long-sleeved shirt trimmed with gold along the edges.

It was the Everbright Academy uniform.

Coincidentally, the colors suited his silver hair and violet eyes perfectly.

The final detail was a golden insignia stamped with the number "1," marking him as a first-year student.

Although he had decided to send the Wind clone to attend the academy in his place, he did not want to miss the first day.

In truth, he had been looking forward to this moment for the past month.

’Let’s see what three weeks of training have brought.’

"Status."

...

...

’It was... okay, I guess.’

His rank remained at [Silver 1].

However, his elemental mastery had improved.

The most notable breakthrough was his sword mastery, surpassing the fifty percent threshold.

That alone made the three weeks worthwhile.

Cael straightened his sleeves.

"Alright. Time to hit the road."
