The Extra Villain's Second Chance: A Hero's System-Chapter 40 - 39 - Astaroth
Chapter 40: Chapter 39 - Astaroth
With no way out, Lev pressed his palm against the ice block.
Every time his body touched the surface of the ice block, whether he did it intentionally or when he was pushed by Andrei’s punch, there would always be a notification to cancel the magic of Razanov Family Art - World of Sword Ice.
[Blood of the Razanov family detected.]
[Waiting for approval to break the seal.]
’Maybe this will work?!’
He changed his mind, he planned to break the demon seal on the ice block.
Perhaps, with the demon inside the ice block freed, Andrei’s attention would be diverted so that he could freely escape.
In his mind, Lev replied in the affirmative to the notification message that appeared in front of him.
[Approval of the Razanov family bloodline confirmed.]
[Started to break the seal.]
His blood which was originally splattered haphazardly on the surface of the ice block was now slowly absorbed into the ice block. As if the ice block was a sponge, his blood began to be sucked in little by little.
Crack! Crack!
The sound of cracks began to emanate. Crack lines began to be drawn on the ice block. At first, the cracks only appeared from where the absorbed blood was, but in just a few seconds, the cracks widened to the entire giant ice block.
Boom!
The explosion finally became the end of the process of removing the seal of Razanov Family Art - World of Sword Ice. White dust from the exploding ice blew within the field, covering almost all of Lev’s visibility.
When the ice block exploded, Lev’s body automatically detached from the ice block and fell down. Both of his knees kissed the ground and both of his palms held his body from lying on the floor. He frowned slightly from the residual pain in his stomach.
"W-What have you done?" Adrei’s face, which originally looked confident, now turned into the face of someone who was scared. "Did you just remove the demon seal?"
Andrei’s legs slightly retreated to the back.
’Isn’t Andrei somehow connected to that demon? He should be happy about the unsealing, right?’ Lev wanted to ask that, but judging from Andrei’s response, it seemed that he wasn’t in any way associated with the demon.
Lev imagined that the newly released demon would scream loudly like someone who had just been released from prison.
Just like Lev, Andrei seemed to be imagining the same thing. That’s why he looked scared.
’This is my only chance.’
Lev intended to run away when the demon shouted loudly.
He braced his feet and entered the stance mode like a professional runner.
The thing was, until the white vapor from the ice block shackling the demon faded away, there was no loud shout as he had imagined.
"??"
"..."
Lev and Andrei were both stunned.
The demon’s body, whose wings stretched wide in the air even though its body was the same size as an adult human, just stood still without moving an inch.
The demon figure’s eyeballs and right hand were gone.
’Was that part of the demon’s body absorbed by Andrei so it wasn’t there?’ When it was still inside the ice block, Lev didn’t realize it, but when the demon figure was released from the ice block, only then did he realize it. ’But, why is the demon silent?’
Crack!
The cracking sound was once again heard.
"Eh? N-No! D-Don’t!!!" Andrei’s shout echoed loudly when he saw what happened to the bat-winged demon’s body.
The demon’s statuesque body suddenly cracked like a stone chisel hit at its weak point. The cracks spread until finally the demon’s body was completely pulverized into thin air.
Andrei’s face when he witnessed all that looked like the face of parents who lost their children. He briefly approached the demon’s body and ended up pawing at the dust on the surface of his hands.
As Andrei mourned the demon’s departure, Lev planned to run away, but as if Andrei wouldn’t let him escape, Andrei’s sharp gaze pierced Lev’s eyeballs.
Andrei looked at Lev as if he was looking at a thief.
"Hoam~" The sound of people yawning entered Lev’s ears. "Where is this?"
Blink-Blink!
Lev blinked in sync with the person who suddenly appeared beside his head. Calling the existence beside him a person was not quite right. The existence who suddenly appeared beside his head was only the size of a fist.
Lev was initially confused, but he realized that the fairy-like existence was the demon sealed inside the ice block earlier.
Although his existence was only the size of a fist and his existence was slightly translucent, the demon still retained the large bat wings on his back to fly.
"Who are you?"
"Oh, I didn’t expect you to remain calm when you saw my figure! You’re quite interesting."
Indeed, normal people would run away just by hearing the word demon in this world. If someone saw a demon in person, most people’s response would be fear.
Unlike the general response, Lev did not show any fear response at all. Calmness still shone in Lev’s eyeballs if you locked eyes with him.
"Why should I be afraid?" Lev was used to seeing demons in his previous life. There was no point in being afraid of another demon in his presence.
"If you’re a normal human, shouldn’t you be surprised?! At the very least, can’t you vibrate your eyeballs?!" With a toothpick-sized fingertip, he tried to poke Lev’s eyeball.
As a result, the toothpick-sized fingertip of the demon only pierced Lev’s eyeball without giving any sense to Lev’s sense of touch.
The demon looked confused while looking at its own fingertips. With its baby face and miniature size, instead of feeling scared, Lev felt adorable.
"Shit! I forgot that I was in my soul form, not in my physical body." He smacked the air with his clenched palms. After finishing, he sighed as if exhausted. He looked at Lev’s face closely while rubbing his chin skin which was as smooth as a crystal ball. "So, you are the child of the Razanov family who has broken my seal?"
"That’s so."
[Observation - Activated.]
[Name: Astaroth
Race: Demon.]
’That’s it?’
When Lev wanted to see the status window of the existence before him, he only saw the name and race, without the main attribute or skill status.
Astaroth... ’I’ve never heard that demon’s name before.’
While Lev was busy chatting with Astaroth, Andrei seemed to have gotten up and approached Lev. "Are you talking to yourself? There’s no point in you pretending to be crazy."
’I seem to be the only one who can see Astaroth. Is it because I was the one who broke the seal?
"Who is he? How dare he call this great demon crazy?!" Astaroth showed his biceps as if trying to threaten Andrei. "Oh, looks like he’s talking to you, boy."
Astaroth lowered his hand when he realized that Andrei wasn’t looking his way, which meant that Andrei couldn’t see his existence.
"Hey, kid. What’s your name?"
"Lev Razanov."
"Apparently, since you are the only person who can see me. That means you are the one who freed me from the seal. Is that person your enemy? Do you need help?" Astaroth made an offer to lend a hand.
"Why would you want to help me?"
There was no point in trusting the word of a demon, even if that demon was a high-ranking demon with a name.
Astaroth then said that he felt a familiar feeling towards Andrei’s eyes and hands. "I’ll give you permission to use my Demonic Aura. Just make sure you make him pay dearly for daring to rob me of some of my physical body parts."
[A contract with the demon Astaroth has been established.]
[The betrayal option is not possible.]
"What? Why are you silent? Do you not trust this great demon?"
Perhaps it was because Astaroth saw Lev’s stunned face while reading the system message in the air, so he looked even angrier as he felt distrusted by the human figure in front of him.
"Tch! It’s always like this. Why don’t any humans immediately believe what I say? It’s because of those damn puppet demons!"
He gritted his teeth and tightened his fists.
He looked like a baby who was upset because his toy was taken away.
"Take it easy. I believe what you’re saying."
"...W-what?"
He widened his eyes while wagging his pointed tail. "Hmp! Finally, there is a human who can directly feel the majesty of this demon." He crossed his arms in front of his chest and snorted proudly.
[Demonic Aura transfer has been detected.]
[A demon who has contracted with you wants to share its demonic aura.] freewёbnoνel.com
[Do you allow?]
"Yes."
A foreign power overflowed from within Lev’s veins.
He felt as if his entire internal organs were being heated up, all of them boiling together with his fighting spirit that suddenly reached its peak.
Lev closed his eyes for a while. Since he was a former Aura user in his previous life, he was already used to controlling the energy called Aura.
Of course, the Aura of humans and demons were very different.
When viewed in general, demon Aura was more chaotic, violent, destructive, and harder to control of course. However, all Auras in this world have the same principle.
Aura was a manifestation of physical and mental strength.
’I just have to strengthen my mentality.’
He imagined that he was a demon who loved to burn things to the ground. He did not reject the chaos emanating from the demonic aura, but rather he rode on the effects of that chaos. That was how he adapted to Astaroth’s demonic aura.
’Now, should I kill Andrei?!’
Lev opened his eyes and a terrifying smile spread across his face.
