The Evil Lord's Wife Has Spirit Blood-Chapter 384
For a long time, Mare just stared at Michelle, clearly deep in thought before opening her mouth:
"You took in some poison again, didn’t you?"
Hearing that, Michelle actually remembered something she started doing completely automatically for a few days already.
She had returned to the habit of taking a dose of poison every day until she could recreate it.
But the poison she started with was still showing no reaction, so she just assumed the results would appear after a while of taking it.
Thus, it became a daily routine thing to take it without even thinking about it.
Michelle got so used to it that she became a bit careless about it and didn’t consider it when the little snake reacted so violently to her.
When Mare saw Michelle nod, she basically understood what was going on.
"Even if you can’t feel the effects of the poison you took, snakes are sensitive to it. That little one must have sensed it and got deadly scared."
After that, Michelle wanted to dismiss Mare, but there was still one thing she couldn’t understand.
At first, the snake calmly came from Alexander’s hand to hers.
Then, it suddenly turned to attack her, but before its fangs could graze her even a bit, it froze.
What did that mean?
Mare remembered how Michelle told her about it and turned her gaze to the snake again.
Then, she actually took on her beast form.
Mare’s beast form was that of a quite big snake.
If she lifted her head as high as she could, she could get it just above Michelle’s head.
In the snake world of the upper realm, a snake of Mare’s size was already considered a big snake, but on the smaller side of the big ones.
But that was only amongst beast snakes.
Monsters were naturally bigger.
Somehow, probably from feeling the presence of another snake, the little snake actually regained consciousness and lifted itself up on Alexander’s hand.
That could mean it could either feel presences even while unconscious, or it was instinctively feigning unconsciousness because of the danger it somehow felt from Michelle.
The little snake stared up at Mare’s face with some recognition in its initially dim eyes.
The initial chaos (from the array site) and fear (of Michelle) that had been clouding its consciousness seemed to dissipate and its expression actually turned highly intelligent.
Alexander bent down and put the snake down on the ground before he stepped over to Michelle.
"Should we leave them alone?" she asked, looking at him.
Alexander shrugged.
"Your little contracted beast is a Venom Jade Serpent, a rare breed standing above all the other snakes even if still young and weak. A meeting like that could last a few seconds, but also hours."
The two snakes, one big, one small, remained silent and motionless, just locking gazes.
Clearly, there was some unspoken understanding between them, but even when observing them closely, Michelle couldn’t figure out what was going on between them.
And that was even though she was Mare’s contracted master and could feel a few things through the contract when she tried.
But the contract wasn’t giving away anything.
Michelle was confused, so she instead moved away a bit with Alexander.
When they were some distance away, both still concealed—Alexander in shadow, Michelle by the Heavenly Law’s ignorance—Alexander finally asked something he had on his mind since Mare started explaining what was going on.
"You are testing poison on yourself again?" his brow was raised.
Michelle wasn’t surprised by the question in itself, but she was a tad bit confused as to why Alexander seemed unhappy with it.
"I always did it. Is there a problem with it now?"
Alexander wasn’t really unsatisfied, but there was something he didn’t like about what Michelle was doing.
"You’ve been taking the same poison for days, but still didn’t figure out what it does to you? Isn’t that a bit reckless from your part?"
As he spoke, he lowered himself to press his forehead against hers, his dark eyes locking on hers.
The redness in one of her eyes from her excitement was already long gone, back to its usual purple.
She was calm once again.
The more Michelle was with Alexander, the more captivated she could get by his eyes, even though they were mostly normal.
And she got captivated once again when he got so close, so she couldn’t come up with an argument to defend herself.
She just stared back into those captivating dark eyes, feeling like they were sucking her in.
Seeing the effect his eyes had on Michelle, a smile tugged at Alexander’s lips.
"You look like you want to eat me alive," he said as he finally pulled back.
Just like Michelle did it a few days earlier, he stretched his hand out and covered her eyes.
"If you keep staring like that, I might consider doing the same to you."
Michelle didn’t mind having her gaze blocked.
She loved the familiarity of Alexander’s touch on her skin.
It made her close her eyes.
"We both know I wouldn’t mind that..." a smile spread across her lips.
With her eyes covered, the smile looked normal, even innocent, but if Alexander uncovered Michelle’s eyes and she opened them, he would be able to see that it was far from normal.
A smile like that was something Michelle rarely showed.
Even Alexander had probably seen it only once if ever.
It was a smile accompanied by a strange gleam in her eyes that seemed like madness but not exactly.
It was like the smile of a demon that had just found its new target to torment.
But it also had something so beautiful that it seemed like there was an angel residing within each of Michelle’s eyes.
But with Michelle’s eyes covered and closed, Alexander couldn’t see the state of her eyes.
Naturally he knew that her smile wasn’t like that of normal people, but he just automatically assumed it was like usually—slightly amused, slightly teasing, maybe even with a hint of desire.
"You didn’t learn your lesson from last time?" Alexander asked with his smile widening.
Michelle reached her hand out to pull his hand off her face, so she could stare at him again.
The obsession was basically spilling out of her eyes.
"A lot has happened since then. It was easy to forget."
As a reaction to the gleam in Michelle’s eyes and her words, a new glint also appeared in Alexander’s eyes.
A dangerous one.
"If you keep acting like this..." he lowered himself again, this time even lower so he could whisper into Michelle’s ear.
"I will make sure you will never be able to forget no matter how rowdy the times get."
"That wouldn’t make me the least bit angry..." Michelle turned her head to the side a bit to plant a soft, fleeting kiss on the side of Alexander’s face, right by his ear.
"Because that will also give me a chance to make it so you will always think of me."
If someone else could see or hear the two, he would conclude that the situation was getting dangerous.
The two were a pair of obsessed creatures circling each other with weapons shown but guard down.
But only for one another.
If someone else approached them, they would most probably not end well.
Because getting between two irritated powers was not a good idea, especially if they were insisting on staying together.
Michelle and Alexander remained silent, just staying close to each other in silence that was almost dreadful.
But at the same time, it was charged with intensity that made the air prickle and sting.
It felt like just a bit more and even their energies would leave their bodies to interact, though that was basically impossible.
After a while, Alexander was the first one to step back.
"Now, I’m angry..." a sigh left his mouth as he tilted his head up to look at the sky above.
But his gaze wasn’t focused on it.
Michelle tilted her head to watch him.
"What made you angry?"
Alexander’s hand twitched by his side, moving his gaze to look at the face in front of him that annoyed him so much.
Oh, how he wanted to see Michelle’s real face, not the face of Ana Ostrich.
The more he saw that face, the more he found it annoying, even ugly.
And that was even though the face of Ana Ostrich wasn’t ugly.
It could actually be considered beautiful, though not stunning.
Alexander really felt like ripping that disguise mask off Michelle’s face and crushing it just like he had crushed the body‑tempering cube.
Michelle saw the violence brewing in Alexander’s eyes, making her chuckle.
She knew what it was that was annoying and making him angry, and it made her somewhat happy.
That wasn’t the first time Alexander had shown clear dislike towards her staging as Ana Ostrich, and every time he did it, it improved her mood more, and that was even though she was already in a good mood.
So, through the Shadow Pact, Alexander could feel that Michelle was getting happier and happier the angrier he got.
What a nice relationship they had...
"You really like pissing me off..." his voice was a low growl as he turned his head down once again to look at Michelle.
"I loved doing it from the start!" Michelle smiled.
"That was why you fell in love with me from the start."
Alexander showed a crude smile at that.
It was the ultimate truth, and he truthfully loved that.
