The Evil God Summoned by the Saintess-Chapter 76 - 74: Art Is Explosion
Earth Spikes is a Tier One Earth Magic spell.
Its strength increases as the mage’s rank goes up.
However, no matter how powerful the mage, the spell itself won’t ever get too strong—its foundation is weak.
Only one exception exists.
When it’s focused through an array.
Earth Spikes conjured by an array aren’t technically the [Earth Spikes] spell, but part of the array itself; earth spikes are just the form they take.
As a Tier Four Mage, Suna was full of combat experience. The instant she sensed the rising spikes were different, she soared into the sky without hesitation.
A massive earth spike shot up from the ground, nearly skewering her mid-flight.
"Lightning!" Hilia called softly again.
Dense clouds formed rapidly overhead, and a bolt of lightning crashed down from within.
Lightning moves faster than earth spikes. Suna, still airborne, couldn’t dodge in time and was struck directly.
Her mage robes glowed with a deep, eerie light, shielding her from the lightning blow.
"Wind!" Hilia tapped her magic staff once more. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
A tornado abruptly formed, snaring Suna inside.
"Fire!"
The tornado suddenly burned bright, becoming a massive fire twister stretching from earth to sky.
The chaos here left Beck and the others dumbfounded—not to mention, the whole village was now alarmed.
People gathered from all directions.
Hilia’s spirit grew more and more excited.
Something she’d never ever dared to dream of—challenging someone above her Tier—was happening!
Even if she was relying on someone else’s array for it.
Still, she made it happen!
"Rock!"
A barrage of magic-infused rock shards erupted from the ground, swept up into the tornado and smashed hard at Suna.
Through the chaos, Hilia could see Suna struggling to cope.
"A little more—let’s finish her off!"
Hilia raised her magic staff.
"Lightning!"
The clouds gathered again.
Boom!
Just as Hilia was about to keep going, Rose’s voice rang out suddenly: "That’s enough! Stop wasting time. There’s no Dragon Scale Stone here, nothing we need. Just activate the Self-Destruct Rune and Isolation Barrier, then leave."
"Alright."
Hilia cast one last, reluctant glance at Suna.
The other mage looked battered, but she was still far from being defeated.
Tier Four mages are so damn hard to kill.
The girl smacked her lips, having to give up.
"After the Self-Destruct Rune activates, will she get blown up?" Hilia asked Rose.
"There’s a chance," Rose replied.
"That hard to kill?" Hilia was shocked.
"There’s a chance" meant "almost impossible."
Hilia understood Rose perfectly.
If he could guarantee a kill, he’d say so. Any other answer means it won’t happen.
Rose marked an arrow in Hilia’s field of vision, pointing her in the right direction.
Meanwhile, inside the protective array of this base, the Self-Destruct Rune quietly activated, starting its countdown.
The Isolation Barrier started up as well, enveloping the whole base—a huge invisible bowl turned upside down over the land, blocking any outside attack.
Sturdy as fortress walls!
Following Rose’s arrow, Hilia reached the front of a house.
Rose said, "Just break the door down."
Bam!
The door crashed to the ground. Hilia followed the arrow to a hidden compartment inside a cabinet, opened it, and found a purple, multi-faceted stone the size of a fist.
Hilia’s eyes sparkled. "Whoa! Advanced Magic Crystal!"
"Yep, that’s the most valuable thing in the camp. Everything else is too bulky—leave it. Let’s go. If you don’t, that Tier Four Mage will catch up."
Hilia didn’t hesitate, grabbed the Magic Crystal and bolted.
Leaving the house, she jumped onto her Flying Broom and sped towards the edge of the base.
At this point, the whole base was in chaos.
Hilia had just taken off when she heard shouting behind her.
"There she is!"
"Don’t let her escape!"
"Damn brat—how dare you do that to Lady Suna? I’ll make you taste my shoehorn!"
"..."
Along with the racket, spells of all kinds flew toward her.
Hilia glanced back, but ignored them—their attack range was too short.
Soon, she shook off her pursuers and reached the outer edge of the array.
Suddenly, she heard a voice: "Hey, Mire brothers, wait for me—I wanna leave too!"
Turning back, she saw Bell, gasping as he rode up on horseback.
Hilia didn’t stop; she opened a gap in the array, slipped through, closed it again, and then turned to face him.
In Hilia’s expectant gaze, Beck crashed—bang—right into the sturdy shield.
"Mire brothers, take me with you! After what you did today, Lady Suna won’t spare me. I never wronged you on the journey—I’ll be your servant!"
"I don’t need a heretic servant," Hilia said.
"Heretic?" Beck froze, his expression slowly twisting. "So you knew all along."
"Well, it’s your own fault for not hiding it one bit last night when I was leaving," Hilia shrugged.
"In that case, I won’t pretend anymore," Beck said, touching the shield with a twisted look. "That’s right, we’re with the Dusk Sect. This is the Dusk Sect’s headquarters. Since you’re inside, you’re not leaving."
"Hehehehe... Death won’t let any soul escape from this place. You’re stuck here..."
Boom!
A huge explosion came, making the protective shield shudder.
Hilia paused. "That’s not supposed to happen yet, right? Did it blow up early?"
There were still a few seconds left on the countdown—she’d checked.
This wasn’t the Self-Destruct going off.
Very soon, Hilia found out what it was.
In the center of the camp, the tornado linking heaven and earth exploded, sending chunks of flaming rock across the entire base.
Right before Hilia, Beck—still cackling—got unlucky and was bisected by a rock zooming past.
Hilia barely had time to look before a blazing blur slammed into the shield at high speed.
Thunk!
The noise rivaled the explosion from before.
Hilia nearly tumbled off her Flying Broom in shock.
"It’s Suna!"
The girl whipped her broom faster—breaking sixty miles per hour. Achievement unlocked.
Inside the shield, Suna ran her hand over the barrier, seething with rage.
Her shrill voice carried all the way to Hilia’s ears—
"Miller Deville, is it? I’ll remember you! Dusk Sect won’t let you off!"
Boom!
As her voice faded, a tremendous explosion followed, swallowing her and the sound completely.
The array’s Self-Destruct was already powerful. Locked in a confined space, it was even deadlier.
Hilia glanced back. Inside the shield, the place had become a furnace; cracks formed in the sturdy barrier, racing across its surface.
With a snap, the barrier shattered.
Hilia stared, mesmerized, when suddenly a huge force thrust her forward.
"Don’t look! If you keep staring, you’ll get caught in the blast too!"
"Ahhhhhh, I don’t want to go hyperspeed—!!"
