The Enhanced Doctor-Chapter 828: Multiple Pulmonary Lesions

"Brother Hui, what are you up to?" Liu Banxia arrived at the internal medicine consultation room.
"Just sorting out some medical records. Didn't you take in a VIP patient? How do you have time to come over here?" Xu Hui asked with a smile.
"It's precisely because I took in a VIP that I can't be careless. I suspect pneumonia and sent the patient for a CT scan. But I also feel the patient's mental state is somewhat unusual, not just simple schizophrenia," Liu Banxia said.
"Once the scan is out, have a look for me too. After all, the patient came recommended by a friend. If anything were to happen, I'd be quite embarrassed," Xu Hui said.
"Why are you asking me for help then?" Xu Hui asked in surprise.
"We haven't received consent from the patient's family to check for schizophrenia, so for now, please help me look at the CT and blood routine," Liu Banxia said.
"You wouldn't make a big deal out of this. Are you heading straight home after work today?" Xu Hui asked with a smile.
"I'll check the situation with this patient. If there aren't any major issues, I can head home with peace of mind," Liu Banxia said.
"I have to say, the feeling of getting off work on time is wonderful. I just hope there won't be any pressure on surgery day the day after tomorrow. Yesterday, before getting off work, I was already restless," Xu Hui said.
"Haha, you'll get used to it. You can take it easy for a few days. Once the appointment for deputy director comes through, you'll definitely be busy again. The director will shift related work to you, and you'll have to sign off," Xu Hui said with a smile.
"There'll be plenty of busy days ahead, not any easier than being the chief resident. But you're good at handling pressure, unlike us. Now, my mind is mostly on home," Liu Banxia said.
"Our emergency center isn't too bad now, not as exhausting as it was at the beginning. The most taxing are pediatrics and ICU, and we'll have to rely on Old Chen to bring in more people," Liu Banxia said.
"As for this deputy director position, I'm actually a bit scared now. Everyone has high expectations. If I don't do well, I won't be able to face everyone," Liu Banxia laughed.
Xu Hui gave him an amused glance, "Everyone's support gives you this much pressure? Just do things the way you always have."
"Right now, the spirit in our emergency center is high, and that's hard to come by. Hold onto this momentum, or it'll just become an ordinary admission place," Xu Hui said.
"Last night, a patient came in with acute enteritis, already dehydrated and needed fluids. He was so restless that it took three tries to get the IV in, and then he lashed out at our nurse," Liu Banxia said.
"Zhou Li isn't one to back down; she shot back with her own tirade. Qi was firm in his stance too, which is rare. Often, people just mind their own business, or they'll seek blame first without considering reasons," Xu Hui said.
"I didn't even know about this. Wow, no one takes me seriously; such an important matter and no one reported it to me," Liu Banxia grinned.
"It's not a big deal, really. This is quite normal. It happens often in pediatrics; not everyone can do what you do," Xu Hui said.
"Sigh... Fecal transplant is not easy at all. I fell into your trap when I got into it. The amount of data needed is overwhelming," Liu Banxia said.
"Luckily, the three of us are working on it. Relying on just one person wouldn't work. Multiple transplants are needed, and the effects aren't very clear," Xu Hui said.
"But it's good too. At least everyone has work to do without needing to find other topics. Want to go for a meal sometime? Don't expect anything fancy," Xu Hui said with a smile.
"No need for that. If anyone's treating it should be me, I'm serious," Liu Banxia quickly added.
"Being the chief resident is only easy because of everyone's support. Without it, where would I be?" Liu Banxia said.
"Even if I become deputy director, I'll still need everyone's support. I used to overestimate myself, but now I'm careful every step of the way," Liu Banxia said.
"Don't stress yourself out with so much pressure. Your current abilities make being a deputy director seem easy enough," Xu Hui said.
"That's thanks to the three years of structured training at our hospital and your own skills. No need to overthink it. You nailed being chief resident; this should be no problem," Xu Hui said.
"Also, when Spring Festival rolls around, we'll have to celebrate with everyone. Didn't our emergency center buy our own mooncakes this Mid-Autumn Festival? Choose some tasty ones," Xu Hui added.
"Definitely, but we'll still have to go by the hospital's standards. There's no way around it," Liu Banxia laughed.
And a small piece of fun was the zongzi given during the Dragon Boat Festival. The hospital's intentions were good with the fresh meat zongzi, but it wasn't to everyone's taste.
After chatting for a bit, Xu Yino came over with the CT scans.
"Teacher Liu, the blood test shows high white blood cell count and anemia. The CT shows multiple lesions in the lungs, but they're very small. Luckily, we did a CT; an X-ray probably wouldn't have caught them," Xu Yino said.
"Good thing I came over to Brother Hui's. Let's take a look," Liu Banxia said as he placed the scans on the viewing light.
"It is indeed a bit complicated. We need to do a bronchoscopy to take a look, and perhaps take a biopsy sample too," Xu Hui said after examining.
"How come there's anemia as well? Could it be related to the lung condition? If it is related, it's even more important to be careful. I'm afraid the situation might not be very good."
Liu Banxia frowned, "The anemia might be somewhat related to nutrition. Her psychological state isn't very good, and the patient is a bit thin."
"Are you okay? Come upstairs with me to take a look. Also, help me think about whether the patient's lung condition has some connection to her mental health."
"Alright, I'm quite interested," Xu Hui nodded.
After arriving upstairs, Liu Banxia introduced Bao Chunlai and described the examination results.
"Is the bronchoscopy examination risky? I'm worried Rou won't be able to handle it," Bao Chunlai said with concern.
"It shouldn't be a problem, and we will anesthetize the throat. After the examination, oxygen will be supplied too," Liu Banxia replied.
"There are lesions distributed in both lungs, and there's a little fluid in the left lung. We also noticed some spots on the bronchi that we need to examine to determine the situation of these lesions."
"Otherwise, using medications randomly might worsen Rou's condition. I'll ask an experienced endoscope doctor to perform the procedure. Don't worry."
Bao Chunlai hesitated for a moment and nodded.
He couldn't disagree, as his daughter's CT scan showed such results. Even though he couldn't fully understand it, if Liu Banxia said so, there should not be a mistake.
"Oh, Dr. Liu, I need to thank this doctor who has been talking with Rou. It seems Rou's emotions are much more stable than usual," Bao Chunlai added.
"Alright, since Rou is quite receptive to Liu Yiqing, let Liu Yiqing follow along with the check-up. It might be tiring, but I'll give you an extra chicken leg tonight," Liu Banxia said.
Liu Yiqing felt amused and exasperated; how could Liu Banxia still be joking at such a time?
"Dr. Liu, what do you think is Rou's condition? Is it serious?" Bao Chunlai asked.
"Chairman Bao, it's hard to tell now. We need to examine those lesions to understand, hence the need for the endoscopy," Liu Banxia explained.
"Alright, since we're here anyway. Dr. Liu, please take care of this. The girl has already had a tough time; we can't let anything bad happen," Bao Chunlai said.
"Don't worry. Personally, I feel even if there's a condition, it shouldn't be very serious. It might be a chronic lung condition. Think back, did Rou ever experience symptoms like coughing, or perhaps chest tightness or difficulty breathing?"
Bao Chunlai frowned; this was a difficult question for him. He was busy with work and didn't have the opportunity to notice these things, so he looked towards his wife.
"I think she did have some breathing issues, but it seemed related to fear. We did a CT scan then, and it showed everything was fine," Bao Chunlai's wife replied.
Liu Banxia nodded, "Alright, let's do the endoscopy to see what's going on."
The couple was already stressed; it's better to wait before asking more questions.
After a while, the bronchoscope was brought over. Being a VIP, they naturally receive some VIP treatment.
Liu Banxia didn't go over but left it to Liu Yiqing to handle.
Despite the short time spent together, Rou had already established a connection with Liu Yiqing. This added to Liu Banxia's curiosity; Rou didn't seem like a patient with schizophrenia.
Apart from being dazed, slight head swaying, and one episode, Rou didn't display common symptoms of schizophrenia. Moreover, she established a connection with Liu Yiqing. Is this actually schizophrenia?
"Brother Hui, do you think Rou's current condition looks like schizophrenia? It seems out of place to me," Liu Banxia said quietly.
"I don't think so either. It might be that during her condition, lung symptoms also appeared, but the lesions were too small for CT scans to detect, which is why no further examinations were done back then," Xu Hui said.
"Let's wait and see. If the lung condition is diagnosed, there might be some psychological intervention needed too. It's difficult to say what condition it correlates to,"
Liu Banxia nodded, waiting for the bronchoscopy results seemed wise. There's no point in speculating now.
Also, it wouldn't be wise to give Bao Chunlai too much hope. If their assumptions turn out wrong, or even if right but unable to provide a clear diagnosis, things could get complicated.
