Liu Banxia had a wonderful sleep, but he didn't fulfill his small wish to wake up naturally. Instead, Qiaoqiao's hair brushing against his face woke him in the morning.

"HAHA, time to get up. Tang Dou has finished feeding the puppies. Aren't you going to take her for a walk?" Qiaoqiao said, chuckling.

"Alright, you sleep a little longer. While Tang Dou is away, you can tease her puppies," Liu Banxia teased.

"What are you talking about? Am I that mischievous? Really. Hurry up and take Tang Dou out to play," Qiaoqiao urged.

Liu Banxia pinched her nose, threw on his tracksuit, and gestured to Tang Dou.

Tang Dou, who had been crouching and waiting, was even faster than him, bolting outside immediately.

"Is Qiaoqiao awake?" Peng Xiuzhi asked as Liu Banxia came downstairs.

"She's awake. She was keeping me company, so she hasn't come down yet. I'll take Tang Dou out to play for a while, about half an hour," Liu Banxia said.

"Go ahead. I'm about to make breakfast. Your father and Qiaoqiao's father just went out. You were all asleep when they came back yesterday. Xian brought some wontons, so we'll have those for breakfast," Peng Xiuzhi said.

"Alright, I'll be back after a quick stroll." Liu Banxia then left with Tang Dou.

Now that the weather was warmer, people were waking up earlier. By the time Liu Banxia went out, he was already on the "late shift."

But Tang Dou was full of energy. She didn't care whether Liu Banxia did any warm-ups; as soon as they were out, she took off.

Just as Liu Banxia said, "Small animals are very clever"; they know who truly treats them well.

Even though Qiaoqiao had raised Tang Dou, she often teased her. Now that Liu Banxia was back, Tang Dou acted as if she'd been reunited with family; she could finally let loose and play properly.

It was a good thing the leash was long; otherwise, Liu Banxia really might not have been able to keep up with her.

They arrived at the usual spot where Tang Dou played with Tiggie. The two dogs greeted each other enthusiastically, then ran to the nearby lawn to romp around.

"Wow, Tang Dou's energy level is completely different now that you're back. When Old Qiao took her out these past two days, she was quite lethargic," Qiu Huaili remarked.

"She's also been cooped up at home these days, and Qiaoqiao can't take her running anymore. She's also very attached to her puppies; yesterday, she carried them all onto our bed," Liu Banxia said.

"Tang Dou and Tiggie are really close. There are quite a few dogs on this grassy patch, but those two only play together," Liu Qingdong remarked.

Other dogs also had their own playmates and would often stroll around here. Tang Dou and Tiggie, however, mostly kept to themselves and didn't mingle much with the other dogs.

"How's your hotel project research going?" Liu Banxia asked curiously.

"It's not that easy. Otherwise, we wouldn't be so busy," Qiu Huaiyuan said with a smile.

"Our initial idea was to acquire an existing hotel. But the ones available for sale were all in terrible condition. We'd have to gut them and renovate completely after taking over."

"So Old Qiao and I discussed buying an apartment building in a good location and converting it into a hotel. I have a few prospects, but their locations are a bit remote."

"Wow, wouldn't that cost a fortune?" Liu Banxia asked in astonishment.

"You can't run a hotel without money. Besides, neither of us has experience in this field, so we'd need to hire someone to manage it. This project can't be rushed; we have to look for opportunities patiently," Qiu Huaili said, laughing.

"Banxia, if Qiaoqiao gets upset or throws a tantrum, just be patient with her," Qiao Xuezhi advised.

"Don't worry. I'd say this even if my dad were here: Qiaoqiao calls the shots at home," Liu Banxia assured.

"That's fine; it's a fine tradition in our family. Just hurry up and finish your Chief Resident duties, then rush home to be with Qiaoqiao after work," Liu Qingdong said.

"Whether it's your mother or Auntie Tong helping out in the future, it's just not the same as you being there. We absolutely can't let Qiaoqiao get upset. You have to humor her; your temper can be quite stubborn at times too."

"Don't worry, everyone, please don't worry. Qiaoqiao is in charge at home now. We chatted last night and had a really good time," Liu Banxia assured them.

As for Qiaoqiao's little emotional knot, there was no need for him to tell everyone. He would just pay more attention in the future and help her work through it.

What would be the use of telling them? They couldn't help anyway, and it would only make them worry needlessly.

"Any news on the deputy director selection at your hospital?" Qiu Huaili asked.

"Not yet. But I heard our Chief Director is very firm about deciding it at an internal hospital meeting," Liu Banxia replied.

"However, the medical school is also exerting significant pressure, so who knows how it will ultimately turn out. That's why I don't really want to get involved in such matters. My brain would never get a rest; I'd be thinking about it all day long."

"Take this series of back-to-back surgeries I did, for example. My original intention was to lighten the load for my director, who is also my mentor. Otherwise, for patients needing major surgery, changing the primary surgeon is a very sensitive issue."

"Then, rumors started spreading in our hospital that I was trying to compete head-on with my rivals. When I thought about it, it kind of made sense. Whether it was true or not, everyone perceived it that way, and nothing I said would change their minds. So, I eventually just did even more surgeries."

"If it weren't for this deputy director selection, I'd be perfectly happy just being a regular doctor. Being in a leadership position is too tiring; there are too many things to think about."

"As for the salary, what difference does it make if it's a little more or less? After marrying Qiaoqiao, I won't have to worry about money again."

"I have to see patients, master new surgical techniques, and help manage the emergency center and the teaching and training program. If competition for a position like that gets added to the mix, it really stresses me out. It's too exhausting."

"HAHA, that's how it is. As long as you have some standing within an organization, you'll need to compete, and there will be many things to deal with," Qiao Xuezhi said with a laugh.

"But it's great that you can maintain a good attitude when dealing with these things. And you're right about one thing: in our family, you don't need to worry about money."

"We may not be the richest people or millionaires, but we have enough money for a comfortable life. Besides, you don't have any expensive hobbies, so how much could you possibly spend in a year?"

"As for my own salary, the only things I spend it on are our hospital's cafeteria and the fruit stand outside the hospital," Liu Banxia said with a wry smile.

"You know, most people your age are into things like cars or watches. Didn't Qiaoqiao buy you a watch? Why aren't you wearing it?" Qiao Xuezhi asked.

"I often have to see patients and go into surgery, so constantly taking a watch off and putting it back on is too much trouble," Liu Banxia replied.

"We're different from the doctors in the inpatient department; we frequently handle emergency patients. Even after I step down as Chief Resident, I'll still have to participate in emergency treatments."

"So I basically just carry a cell phone. It lets me see the time and communicate, and that's enough. When an emergency surgery comes up, sometimes I don't even get a chance to bring my phone into the operating room."

Qiao Xuezhi nodded. Despite what he had just said about watches and cars, he actually thought it was a good thing that Liu Banxia didn't care about such superficial things.

People like that are often very pure.

If Liu Banxia had started buying a car one day and an expensive watch the next after getting married, and who knows what else the day after, then he, Qiao Xuezhi, would have reason to worry.

But the current Liu Banxia, apart from his concerns at the hospital, spent all his remaining time caring for Qiaoqiao, and that was excellent.

After chatting for a while longer, Tang Dou and Tiggie had also finished their frolicking. The group headed back to their respective homes, intending to continue their conversation after breakfast.

Having had a good romp, Tang Dou's spirits were much improved. Upon seeing Qiaoqiao, she ran straight to her side, rubbed her big head against Qiaoqiao a few times, and only then did she dash upstairs to check on her puppies.

"This Tang Dou, she's really like you said. It seems I shouldn't casually play with her puppies anymore. I should let her take care of them herself," Qiaoqiao commented with delight.

"It's fine. Didn't I tell you? Once her puppies get a bit older, she won't be able to manage them all by herself. Four little home-wreckers! You'll have your hands full then too," Liu Banxia said.

"Oh, that's something for the future. Let's not worry about it now. Where are the wontons Xian made?" Qiaoqiao said.

Seeing Qiaoqiao so happy, Liu Banxia truly felt reassured. She was back to her old self, just like before.

Emotional wounds require emotional remedies. As long as one found the right approach, there would be no problem.

He himself was a bit curious, wondering if it was because his mental acuity had improved that he was able to notice such a tiny, subtle difference.

He had pondered this question before but hadn't found an answer then, nor did he have one now.

Although he sometimes wanted to shout out that he was going to be a famous doctor, he knew his own limitations. He still relied on the System, the increased skill proficiencies, and those embedded gems.

That was why he particularly cherished the attribute points awarded by the System; they were a non-renewable resource.

Grinding surgeries now was tiring, but the Glory Points awarded were quite decent. However, attribute points could only be obtained through the sole method of leveling up.

And leveling up had become so difficult. If he had performed this many major surgeries a year ago, the level-up notifications would have been chiming non-stop.

While Liu Banxia was lost in these pleasant thoughts, Peng Xiuqin brought over the cooked wontons.

Qiaoqiao really liked these wontons, and she ate them with much delight.

Qiao Xuezhi felt very gratified, sensing that his daughter was genuinely happy. He didn't read too much into it, simply assuming it was because Liu Banxia had returned.

The reason didn't matter; the important thing was that his daughter was happy. That was better than anything else.

She was carrying two babies; they couldn't afford any mishaps. His own words didn't carry much weight with her anymore; only Liu Banxia could manage Qiaoqiao now.
