The Enhanced Doctor-Chapter 666 Missing my wife
(Thanks to mojka for the monthly ticket encouragement)
"Finally, we've completed today's tasks. You all did very well, managing to get me out of the operating room at five forty."
After finishing two surgeries and returning to the main hall of the emergency center, Liu Banxia gathered the interns.
"Teacher Liu, you're not being sarcastic, are you?" Liu Yiqing asked with a strained smile.
"Not at all. Ask Wang Chao if you don't believe me. I thought the earliest I'd finish would be six o'clock," Liu Banxia said, laughing.
"Everyone performed admirably, and I also heard Shi Lei's assessment after the surgery. Li Hao's technique during the puncture was very solid. He deserves special praise."
"The next task is also quite challenging. Working in pairs, you need to properly document the surgeries performed, and then I'll sign off on them. Also, think about how you can carry out this 'undercover agent' task for me naturally. I want the most genuine feedback."
"If you only bring me back picture-perfect, idealized reports, and I base the training standards on those, wouldn't the next batch of interns curse my name?"
At his words, the interns' faces fell again.
This task is also incredibly difficult. Where would they find so much genuine information to report? All anyone ever does is complain. But they can't report those things to Liu the 'Devil'. This is truly distressing.
"Alright, off you go. Once you're done, I can go home and have dinner with my wife." Liu Banxia waved his hand dismissively.
Although this also delayed their mealtimes, Liu Banxia felt no guilt whatsoever. To get home to his wife sooner, he felt it was worth the push.
"President Liu, glad to finally see you. Director Wang is coming to our emergency center tomorrow to work. What are your thoughts on the arrangements?" Wu Mingyu hurried over at this moment.
"So soon? I thought it would be in a few days," Liu Banxia frowned.
"The original plan was for a few days later, but considering our staff shortage here, Director Wang will also oversee the orthopedics department for a while after he arrives," Wu Mingyu explained.
"I wanted to talk to you about this in the morning, but you were in surgery. I just finished my own surgery too. Can we use the office that was set aside? I finally feel like I have a proper base of operations here."
Liu Banxia chuckled. "You'll be responsible for Teacher Wang's arrangements tomorrow. I have things to do; I'm taking the day off. Besides, you know Teacher Wang much better than I do. It'll definitely be fine."
"What are you taking a day off for? Working is much better," Wu Mingyu grumbled.
"Then it's settled. I'll handle the arrangements tomorrow. However, we should also tell Sister Li. Patients with long bone fractures should ideally be placed in the same ward so that if they develop a pulmonary embolism, it can be treated promptly."
Liu Banxia nodded. "You can just tell Sister Li directly. Orthopedic patients will definitely constitute a large portion of our cases in the future, so this is something we really need to pay attention to."
"If it's a microvascular embolism, it's not a huge deal. But if it's a major blood vessel, a rescue attempt might not even be timely enough. Keep it up, work hard, and bring in revenue for our emergency center."
"Ah... now that Director Wang is coming, I can finally have some regular days off," Wu Mingyu said, then left with his hands clasped behind his back.
He was indeed very hardworking, only occasionally taking a day off, during which Liu Banxia would cover for him or he'd borrow someone from orthopedics.
And many patients at the emergency center have orthopedic injuries. If the authority for orthopedic surgeries hadn't been delegated, he probably wouldn't have had any time off at all.
No doctor in any department has it easy. As long as the patient volume is high, you're swamped.
Currently, within the entire emergency center, only the ENT department is slightly less hectic. After all, many patients still don't know the emergency center even has this department, but the patient load is starting to increase.
Seeing that everything seemed to be in order, Liu Banxia went to the locker room to change. For him these days, every day felt like a year, and he was as restless as if sitting on pins and needles. He really missed his wife.
When he was dating Qiaoqiao, his longing wasn't nearly as strong. But now, it was different; he just wished he could fly home immediately and have dinner with Qiaoqiao.
The interns were considerate of him and worked very efficiently. After he finished signing the documents, he bolted out like the wind.
Although he wasn't weaving through traffic like a maniac on the way home, he still maintained a brisk pace.
"Eh? How did you manage to get home so early?" Qiaoqiao exclaimed in surprise when she saw Liu Banxia walk in.
Tang Dou also reacted quickly, jumping off the couch and flinging herself onto Liu Banxia.
"The interns really powered through, so I finished a bit early. Tang Dou, you're pregnant now, so you can't keep jumping around and being so boisterous like before," Liu Banxia said, rubbing Tang Dou's head.
"Her? She's never quiet; she doesn't act pregnant at all. This morning she saw Tiggie and started running after him," Qiaoqiao tattled.
"What are we having for dinner tonight? You were keeping it a secret from me this afternoon," Liu Banxia asked.
"We're having barbecue. But I've already eaten. I'll just have some pastries," Qiaoqiao replied.
"What's wrong? Have you gotten used to eating early? Even so, you have to eat and drink a little with me; otherwise, it's no fun for me to eat alone," Liu Banxia said, moving closer to Qiaoqiao.
Qiaoqiao wrinkled her nose. "Then I'll just eat a tiny bit. I'm not drinking, though. I've been drinking for the past two days and I'm sick of it."
"Alright then, I'll just have some beer. Anyway, it's not that cold outside anymore, and the stove keeps it warm," Liu Banxia nodded.
He was actually quite curious; he felt Qiaoqiao must have prepared some surprise for him. The fact that she had managed to keep it under wraps until now was quite a feat.
Despite Qiaoqiao claiming she wouldn't eat with him, she had prepared a lot of food, including a large steak, which Liu Banxia immediately put on the grill.
"Sigh... I originally promised Yanzi I'd make an appearance to help promote her yoga studio. Now I have to break my promise again. Plus, I still have dinner with Old Qiu tomorrow night," Liu Banxia said while arranging the skewers.
"You could go during the day. Just sleep in and then head out," Qiaoqiao suggested casually.
"No way. I plan to laze around at home all morning tomorrow and let Tang Dou walk herself," Liu Banxia replied seriously.
Qiaoqiao rolled her eyes at him. "And to think Tang Dou misses you so much, yet you're making her walk herself! Tang Dou, from now on, we're not going to be so good to him, okay?"
Tang Dou glanced at her, then lowered her head and walked over to Liu Banxia's feet, obediently lying down.
"Really, you don't even know who's good to you? I even decorated your room so nicely!" Qiaoqiao glared at Tang Dou.
"Hehe, she knows I have good food here," Liu Banxia said, laughing.
"Coming back this time, I practically wanted to floor the accelerator, so eager to get to the doorstep and see my wife. It feels like ages since I last saw you; I've really missed you."
"Don't be so dramatic. You're just talking nonsense," Qiaoqiao retorted, handing him a beer.
"I heard from Liu Yiqing that you've all been very busy lately. They also have to intern in pediatrics and the ICU, which will make your team even more short-handed."
"It's not really a big deal; we're already used to it," Liu Banxia replied.
"By the way, let's see how things are tomorrow at noon. Wang Chao might arrange for us to have lunch with his mom. It'll be a good chance for me to learn from her."
"Is it appropriate for me to go?" Qiaoqiao asked.
"Why wouldn't it be? It's my only day off, and I wish I could carry you on my back the whole time. We absolutely have to be together, not wasting a single second," Liu Banxia replied earnestly.
"Oh, where did you learn to be such a smooth-talker? Just focus on grilling the meat," Qiaoqiao said, giving him a playful glare, then handed him two scallops—his favorite.
"This is about competing for the deputy director position at the emergency center. But it's no big deal. I'll just do my best with a calm mind. It doesn't matter if I'm not selected," Liu Banxia said.
"The lamb skewers are ready; you eat first. These two are for Tang Dou, unseasoned. The chicken cartilage will take a little longer. What else do you want?"
"I can't eat that much. I'll have two skewers first; you can have the rest. You haven't eaten, have you?" Qiaoqiao asked.
"Eating would have taken too much time; it was better to drive straight back. I'll grill the steak then. Medium-well, please; I can't handle it if it's too rare," Liu Banxia said.
Just then, Tang Dou, who was nearby, finished the two skewers given to her and started patting Liu Banxia's foot with her paw.
"Wait a moment, I'll give you some more unseasoned ones later. You only eat lamb, don't you get tired of the gamey taste? I can't eat it plain," Liu Banxia said.
"She's been eating a lot lately. I wonder how many little ones she's pregnant with. But they say it'll still be some time before her belly starts to show," Qiaoqiao said, stroking Tang Dou's forehead.
"She'd better not have too many. If she has a whole litter, my goodness, how much will it cost to feed them every day!" Liu Banxia exclaimed.
"Oh, come on, how much can little puppies eat? Tang Dou, give birth with all your might, push hard!" Qiaoqiao cheered Tang Dou on.
However, Tang Dou merely glanced at her, then rolled over, lay on the ground, and snuggled her head against Liu Banxia's foot again.
Liu Banxia gave Qiaoqiao a smug look. See? Dogs. As long as you feed them, give them water, and play with them, they'll think you're their best pal.
Looks like I'll have to get up a bit earlier tomorrow morning to take Tang Dou out to run around.
The medium-well steak was easy to grill. Halfway through, Liu Banxia used scissors to cut it into small pieces. After sprinkling a little salt, he speared a piece with a toothpick and offered it to Qiaoqiao's lips.
Missing his wife wasn't just something he said; he truly missed her from the bottom of his heart.
Usually, when he came home to eat, Qiaoqiao would serve him. He had kept her waiting for so long today, so it was his turn to take care of Qiaoqiao. Whatever it was, his wife had to have the first bite; he'd compete with Tang Dou for the second.
Qiaoqiao had said she'd just have pastries, but now that the meat was offered to her, she ate it with great relish, even if his grilling skills weren't as good as Wang Mingxing's.
