The Elf Journey In The Western Fantasy World-Chapter 202: Clinging Shadow
Not openly, of course, but by staying beside His Majesty the Demon King as a dual-layer of security.
And as expected, the dark elf who was highly protective of the light elf’s safety was now filled with unease.
In his view, the entire continent had no truly safe place and danger lurked around every corner.
And now the situation was that the light elf was not only wandering about but also preparing to take part in the perilous war.
This string of actions made the dark elf extremely uneasy, which was completely understandable.
Although the dark elf himself might not realize this, they did have a strong quality: they would never stop their soul-bonded partner from doing something they wanted to do.
Sebastian patted Drow’s shoulder with a face full of understanding.
He said gently to reassure him, "It’s alright, really. The war is just for show. No one’s going to get serious. Besides, the Demon Race has already established diplomatic ties with the nations of the continent. Everyone’s an ally. No one will truly go all out. Well, there’s that Yaguk-something country on the continent that hasn’t reached out to us, but it’s nothing serious. Even if all the other allies turned their backs on us, that one country still hasn’t made a move. And besides, we’re still here, aren’t we? Don’t worry. As long as nothing unexpected happens, this war will be a breeze!"
Drow: "..."
Now he felt even more worried, what should he do?
Sebastian caught the look of disdain from the dark elf and immediately felt a stab in his chest.
Fortunately, his mental endurance was strong and he didn’t fall apart because of it.
He let out a rather helpless sigh. "You have to trust in our capabilities. And besides, isn’t there still you?"
Drow’s expression shifted slightly.
Something in his heart was move and the anxiety he felt was somewhat suppressed, though it did not completely vanish.
Hopefully...
Drow exhaled softly, hoping that this war would pass smoothly.
Although Sebastian had given him an unconventional kind of comfort, the unease in Drow’s heart still did not completely fade. But thankfully, the feeling was no longer as intense as before, leaving only a faint layer of tension.
Even if the uneasiness was now just a thin sliver, it still drove Drow to follow closely behind Illiya and never straying even half a step as though he were glued to him.
The closer the date of the war drew, the more tightly he clung.
Anyone unaware of their circumstances might have thought these two elves were conjoined twins.
Even real twin brothers were not as inseparably close as they were.
Yet the light elf Illiya, the one being clung to, did not feel the slightest bit disturbed. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Although the dark elf was always stuck to him, his presence did not bring any inconvenience.
Every time, he quietly stayed by his side, never making a sound.
His presence was so faint that if someone didn’t actively look for him, they might not even realize he was there.
It was as if a puff of air was always trailing behind.
Illiya shook his head helplessly, but there was not the slightest trace of annoyance on his face.
Perhaps it was precisely because he was willing that the dark elf dared to act this way.
Sometimes, one had to admit that dark elves truly were a race that became arrogant when spoiled.
Once given the opportunity, they would climb right up without hesitation as if born to do so.
All of these behaviors, which might be considered praiseworthy when taken on their own, were regarded by dark elves as exclusive skills reserved only for their soul-bonded partners.
As for "everyone else"...
If they didn’t shoot you with an arrow, it just meant the dark elf was in a good mood and didn’t want to see blood today.
Sebastian, having finished all preparations, was currently suffering from boredom.
With the war imminent, all members of the Demon Race were now on high alert, their morale sky-high.
They were determined to secure victory and not disappoint His Majesty the Demon King.
As the chief steward of the Demon Realm, Sebastian had the desire to participate, at least to be of some use.
But the Demon Race this time was surprisingly united and showed outstanding team spirit.
They didn’t need his involvement at all.
Everyone beneath him had taken the initiative to complete all the necessary preparations.
Some even fought tooth and nail over spots in the army, all for the sake of ensuring the entire force maintained peak combat strength.
"I really never thought there would come a day when I could be this free and idle. You know, back in the old days, I barely had any time to rest. If I wasn’t dealing with issues between cities, then I was settling fights between demons. To have such a leisurely moment now... it even feels a bit unreal," Sebastian said.
He had somehow wandered over to Drow’s side again, speaking in a tone as warm and familiar as if chatting with an old friend he had not seen in years.
However, Drow was clearly not Sebastian’s "old friend," and naturally had no intention of responding to the words of a bored chief steward of the Demon Realm.
It was simply too dull.
Besides, he didn’t have the energy to deal with this person.
Sometimes, he really got the illusion that if someone as unreliable as Sebastian could become the chief steward of the Demon Realm, then if he were a demon, wouldn’t he be qualified for the same role too?
At times, this kind of illusion if it could even be called that appeared both appropriately and inappropriately.
Drow quickly pushed the strange thoughts from his mind.
He couldn’t even understand why he was thinking about such nonsense.
Maybe it was a result of being infected by that steward. Truly, he needed to keep his distance from anyone besides his soul-bonded partner.
