The Double-Chapter 707 - 215 Confession_4
Chapter 707: Chapter 215 Confession_4
Jiang Li looked at him, his eyes were more serious than ever before, he wasn’t lying, what he said was true.
"I’ve never thought selflessness was a good thing," Jih Heng said softly, "But I think it’s fine if you can’t learn to be selfish; I can do those things. You just do what you want to do."
Jiang Li lowered her head, her fingers unconsciously gripping the fan in her hand. It was a fan given to her by Yin Zhiqing. The summer heat in Yanjing City was intense, and since the fan was useful, Jiang Li carried it with her. Her movement caught Jih Heng’s eye, and his gaze fell upon her fan. He hesitated for a brief moment before taking the fan from her hand.
"Was this fan a gift from Yin Zhili?" he asked.
Jiang Li nodded, then shook her head, "It was from Yin Zhiqing."
A smile lingered on Jih Heng’s lips as he slowly unfolded the fan, which had pear blossoms on it, but a tiny lotus flower was engraved at the base of the fan handle. The handle itself was made of white jade, of fine quality and snow-white color. The delicately carved lotus on it was indeed charming and exquisitely detailed.
With calm composure, Jih Heng said, "Yin Zhili is really extravagant, though his taste is somewhat questionable. What lotus flower? It’s clearly the man-eating flower that doesn’t spit out bones."
Jiang Li was initially shocked, then realized the implication of Jih Heng’s words. She quickly regained her senses and said, "How did you know what Yin Zhili said to me? Is Zhao Ke still staying at Jiang Residence?"
"I wouldn’t feel at ease leaving you alone in a place like Jiang Residence," he said, "Of course, I had to have someone keep an eye on you."
If he wanted to coax someone, probably no one could resist his tricks. Jiang Li was just starting to feel touched when she saw him holding the fan, saying to her, "This fan, I’m confiscating it."
"But it’s my belonging," Jiang Li said.
"Your belonging?" He curled up one corner of his mouth, suddenly reached out to grasp Jiang Li’s chin, and with the other hand, he traced her lips with his finger, warningly saying, "Try accepting gifts from other men again in the future."
Jiang Li fell silent.
His fingertips were cool, caressing her lips, which felt as though they were about to be scorched. Jiang Li was reminded of the unexpected kiss from before, and her face grew even hotter.
In her daze, she only heard Jih Heng let out a light chuckle, "I thought you were brave, but now you’re so scared of me it’s like your life depends on it?"
"I’m not afraid of you," Jiang Li freed herself from his grasp, "It’s just a bit unfamiliar, that’s all."
"No matter, you will gradually get used to it," he said.
Jiang Li looked at him, fell silent for a moment, and Jih Heng just waited patiently. After a while, she finally spoke up, "Will I cause any changes to your plan? If you intervene to stop the marital arrangement with the Yin Household, it will undoubtedly draw the Yin family’s attention to you. When that happens, will it become your problem instead?"
"Yin Zhan has been paying attention to me for a while now, with or without the marriage issue," Jih Heng said with a faint smile, comforting her, "You don’t need to worry about it."
"I still don’t understand the grudge between Yin Zhan and you. If you don’t want to talk about it now, I won’t ask. But what is his purpose for returning to Yanjing City? To form a marital alliance with the Jiang Family is probably not just Yin Zhili’s own idea. I’m not a peerless beauty; Yin Zhili wouldn’t fall for me just after seeing me once. What is it for?"
Jiang Li still found it very strange. If she didn’t figure out Yin Zhan’s intentions, she wouldn’t know how to advise the Jiang Family.
"Li Zhongnan is no longer effective, and the leader among the civil officials is Jiang Yuanbai," Jih Heng said indifferently, "By winning over Jiang Yuanbai, half the power in the court is won over."
Hearing him use the word "win over," Jiang Li’s heart skipped a beat, and she blurted out, "Does he want to be the next Prince Cheng?"
Jih Heng smiled, "Is there a better reason?"
"Why?" Jiang Li became more confused, "If he wanted to usurp the throne, why remain unheard of in Yunzhong for so many years? Why wait until now? Couldn’t he have done it when the Emperor was still young?"
"The Emperor needs to grow, Prince Cheng needs to grow, and of course, the Prince of Xia County needs to grow. Otherwise, why do you think The Late Emperor exiled the Prince of Xia County to Yunzhong? It was merely because The Late Emperor noticed some clues, yet had no further evidence, harbored suspicions, and could only exile him. After all, The Late Emperor was nostalgic; if it were me..." Jih Heng said nonchalantly, "I would never raise a tiger to be a problem."
"He and you..."
"Hush," Jih Heng gestured for silence, smiling at Jiang Li, "There are many things you don’t need to know. The more you know, the more dangerous it becomes. I like you so much, I wouldn’t want anything to happen to you."
