The Double-Chapter 620 - 182 Death Approaches_2
Chapter 620: Chapter 182 Death Approaches_2
Princess Yongning was taken aback, "What did you say?"
"Your Highness and Lord Shen’s affair became public because of your falling out with Eldest Young Master Li. Your relentlessness towards Eldest Young Master Li is solely because he caused the death of your child," Jiang Li spoke gently, "But Your Highness, you have wronged Eldest Young Master Li; you were never pregnant. It was all because I used a Fake Pregnancy Medicine, making you believe you were with child, impatient to wed into the Li Family, which has led to the current situation. Therefore," she smiled brightly, "tell me, isn’t all this related to me?"
"You..." Princess Yongning’s expression morphed from surprise to shock, and from shock to rage. She lunged forward, attempting to scratch Jiang Li’s face. Jiang Li stepped back, as Princess Yongning, separated by the iron bars, couldn’t reach her any longer, and could only helplessly scream, "You lowlife! I’ll kill you!"
Shen Yurong glanced over; he couldn’t quite make out what Jiang Li had said to Princess Yongning, what had made her so angry. He just stared at Jiang Li, his gaze intense and unwavering.
"Although the child was fake, what you did to the Xue Family back then was real," Jiang Li stated calmly, "So even if you told others, no one would believe you. Tomorrow morning, you will still be sent to the execution ground to pay the price you owe."
Princess Yongning was gasping for breath, like a wild beast. Her gaze fixated on Jiang Li as if wanting to tear her into pieces, she asked, "Why would you do this?"
"Princess Yongning," Jiang Li looked her in the eye, "I did it because you made me do it."
"Me?"
"You said..." Jiang Li’s voice was soft and gentle, but in the darkness, it painted a terrifying picture. She continued, "I am the daughter of a mere government clerk. Trampling me to death is as easy for you as stepping on an ant. Remember, when you’re reborn, make sure to be born into the house of a noble daughter."
Princess Yongning first looked confused, then struck as by lightning.
That day’s hazy words suddenly appeared crystal clear in her mind.
"I and Mr. Shen are deeply in love, but of course, I cannot tolerate someone like you. If you were the daughter of a prominent family, I might need to take some trouble. But alas, your father is just a lowly county official. Amongst the many provinces of Yanjing, your Xue Family is but trifling. Before you’re reborn, remember to choose wisely, and ensure you’re born into the house of a noble daughter."
"Remember, even if you are exceedingly beautiful and unmatched in learning, you are still the daughter of a lowly clerk, and I can crush you to death—just as easily as crushing an ant!"
"You, you, you..." Princess Yongning couldn’t help but step back, "Are you human or ghost? Are you Xue Fangfei?!"
The words "Xue Fangfei" at last stirred Shen Yurong, who had been hiding in the shadows. He slowly crawled over, peering through the iron bars at Jiang Li.
Jiang Li did not look at him but kept her eyes on Princess Yongning. Suddenly, she smirked softly, "Who’s to say I’m not?"
Her boldness, her calm admission, was as brave as it was reckless.
"Impossible, impossible..." Princess Yongning shook her head vehemently, backing away. She thought she might be dreaming, or perhaps it was all a hallucination. She feared Xue Fangfei’s ghost had come for revenge, or maybe it was simply Jiang Li scaring her to avenge Jiang Youyao.
But how could it be? Princess Yongning knew that prior to Xue Fangfei’s death, only she and two old maids were present. Those maids had been silenced long ago, and apart from her, no one else knew of the words exchanged with Xue Fangfei before she died. Jiang Li’s recounting was accurate to the letter; if she was merely intimidating herself, how could she know these things?
It simply couldn’t be! Princess Yongning ran to the depths of the cell, looking petrified, refusing to make eye contact with Jiang Li.
Jiang Li cast a glance at Princess Yongning, this woman who ruined her past life and was now in such a wretched state, trembling in fear. One sentence was enough to make her jump like a startled bird. This Princess Yongning suddenly seemed so bland to her, draining her desire for revenge.
Jiang Li stood up and walked out, as a hand caught the hem of her dress.
Shen Yurong looked up at her, softly inquiring, "Is it Fangfei?"
Familiar eyes met his, filled with shock, hope, fear, and anxiety—a tumultuous mix of emotions. It was as though if Jiang Li simply said "yes," he would have an endless stream of words for her, and were she to say "no," he would face an unbearable disappointment and injustices as vast as the heavens.
But Jiang Li merely looked down, tugged hard, and her dress hem slipped through Shen Yurong’s fingers. She didn’t look at him as she walked away.
The affection they once shared had already been severed when she was Xue Fangfei. Now, having settled the debt of fate, their relationship was over. She didn’t care to see or listen, much less to answer. His remorse or his stubborn delusions, apologies or tears, she had no interest at all.
Whether or not she was Xue Fangfei, it no longer had anything to do with Shen Yurong.
Jiang Li left the prison, where the rain had not yet stopped. The jailer smiled obsequiously at her. Tonger and Bai Xue hadn’t expected her to come out so soon. Together, they headed for the carriage.
As they approached the carriage, Jiang Li paused.
The coachman had changed, revealing the face of Zhao Ke. Zhao Ke said, "My lord requests the Second Miss to the Duke Residence."
Bai Xue and Tonger looked at each other, while Jiang Li, as if familiar with the drill, boarded the carriage and said, "Let’s go."
After finishing what she had set out to do, Princess Yongning and Shen Yurong had been dealt with. According to her previous agreement with Jih Heng, it was time for him to claim her life. Jiang Li didn’t feel there was anything amiss. There are no benefits without costs in this world; seeking revenge, if it hadn’t been for Jih Heng, wouldn’t have gone as smoothly as it did by her alone. Paying the price was only right.
She had nothing to say.
