The Disdained Luna Who Rose Alone-Chapter 56 Get Rid of the Venomous Snake
Evelyn’s POV
I completely ignored his harsh words and turned to walk away. "I will do everything in my power to fight you for custody of our children, Alpha Calvin."
The words tasted strange yet empowering. I never thought I’d stand here, threatening legal action against my mate, my children’s father. But we had fallen so far, our mateship crumbling into custody battles and bitter words.
I got into the car waiting at the hospital entrance, opening Leon’s medical files as we drove away.
The new client Gray connected me to was Silas Robinson, Leon’s father. Silas had only one son,his heir who disappeared in a rogue wolf attack years ago. He’d never stopped searching, especially since Pack law required Alphas to pass their position to their adult children.
When Silas finally found Leon, he was already grown. After rigorous Pack training and trials, Leon successfully claimed his place as Alpha. He excelled in the role, managing both Pack affairs and their business ventures brilliantly, bringing unprecedented prosperity to Brownfur Pack.
Then one night, his wolf lost control, took over completely. The rampage through Pack territory left destruction in its wake. When Leon finally subdued his wolf, he collapsed and hadn’t regained consciousness since. Silas had taken him to countless specialists, but nothing helped. Leon barely clung to life. In desperation, Silas turned to my lab.
Seeing him in that hospital bed, I could hardly reconcile this pale figure with the Leon I knew in university. Back then, he’d been the golden boy—star athlete, campus heartthrob, always smiling.
We’d dated briefly. Despite not knowing he was adopted, despite working multiple jobs to support his adoptive family, he’d remained optimistic, always making time to care for me.
I’d promised to help, and I intended to keep that promise.
I studied Leon’s medical reports. When I got to his blood work analysis, a chill ran down my spine.
The toxin patterns were disturbingly similar to what I’d found in my sons’ systems when they’d fallen ill. Not identical, but clearly from the same family of compounds. This couldn’t be coincidence.
My twins had been poisoned with Wolf Instinct Suppression drug. Our research showed it would cause complete wolf separation if untreated - leading to mental fragmentation, language disorders, and permanent disassociation from their wolf.
Was this something new? We’d seen LDS, Wolf Instinct Suppression, and now this. Someone must be running illegal experiments.
I quickly called Gray. "Contact Silas. Ask if he’s willing to transfer Leon to Evelink Biosciences."
I headed home after arranging everything. After spending several hours playing with Alexis, it was time to pick up the twins from preschool.
When I arrived, I saw Calvin standing alone by his car, watching the children come out. For once, Clara wasn’t clinging to his arm like some trophy girlfriend.
vibrant, cheerful colors matching their personalities. They spotted us and ran toward Alexis with excited smiles.
"Little sister!" they called together.
Alexis, holding three cake pops from the boutique bakery downtown, looked up at her brothers’ voices and raised the treats proudly.
"For you, brothers," she said sweetly.
Each twin received an artfully decorated cake pop. She’d kept one for herself, waiting to share this moment with her brothers. The treats were perfect spheres of red velvet cake, dipped in white chocolate and decorated with delicate golden patterns.
Just as the children were enjoying their treats, Calvin’s cold voice cut through the moment.
"Is this the junk food you’re feeding our children?"
My expression hardened.I met his gaze, my eyes turning cold as ice. The twins hesitated, looking at their half-eaten cake pops.
I turned to my sons, my expression softening. "It’s fine, boys. Just remember to brush your teeth when we get home."
Alexis ignored Calvin completely. She bit into her cake pop with delight.
"Brothers, it’s so good!" she exclaimed, offering bites to Rowan and then Rhys.
"This one’s the best!" Rhys’s eyes sparkled.
When Alexis held hers up to me, Calvin started to speak but stopped. He watched as I took a small bite, the white chocolate melting on my tongue.
I caught him swallowing hard before he turned away abruptly. He focused on scolding our sons instead—at the Bloodbane Pack house, he never allowed sweets, always worried about cavities.
These weren’t just any treats, they were specially made by an award-winning pastry chef, using premium ingredients. Each pop had just the right amount of sweetness.
Hardly the "junk food" Calvin claimed it to be.
I called for the twins to get in the car, noticing Alexis approach Calvin and tug at his pants leg. He had just crouched down.
I glanced over to see his lips touching the cake pop,the very same one I’d just tasted.
My stomach fluttered.
Although Alexis wasn’t particularly fond of Calvin right now, I’d taught her that good things should be shared.Since both her mother and brothers had tried it, she’d grudgingly decided to let "this mister" have a taste too.
"Bite," she instructed, opening her mouth wide to demonstrate.
The sweet vanilla scent of white chocolate mixed with cake lingered between them as Calvin took a bite. Without any further prompting, Alexis pulled the cake pop away.
She glanced back at me furtively. I pretended not to notice, keeping my eyes on the twins. Then my little girl puffed out her cheeks at Calvin and said fiercely, "You, no bully Mommy."
Calvin was momentarily speechless.
Alexis skipped back to me with her cake pop, now half-eaten, and raised her arms to be lifted into the car.
Calvin had never enjoyed sweets, especially something as rich as cake pops. Yet there he stood, savoring the very treat my lips had touched moments before.
With all three children settled in the car, I finally had a chance to speak with Calvin. To avoid little ears overhearing, I walked to a tree a short distance away and waited for him to join me.
"The children will be staying with me for now," I stated firmly.
Calvin refused immediately. His dark eyes studied me before he added, "I’ve enrolled them in martial arts and strategic planning. Their tutors come after school, and we have Pack training sessions on weekends."
"They’re only eight years old," I reminded him gently.
He remained silent, but I knew what he was thinking. At eight, he’d already been excelling in Pack combat training. His expectations for our future Alpha sons were impossibly high.
Seeing his stubborn silence, I decided to be direct.
"You can have them back at your house on one condition, get rid of the venomous snake you’re harboring first."
Calvin immediately caught my meaning. "Clara, she......"
"Rowan and Rhys are my children," I interrupted, my voice rising with emotion. "As their mother, is it wrong for me to protect them from being poisoned and hospitalized again?"
My eyes grew misty as memories of my sons lying unconscious in the Evelink lab rushed back. Just thinking about those terrifying days made my body want to tremble. Fear and helplessness threatened to overwhelm me.
I turned away, tilting my head back to stop tears from falling. Only after composing myself did I face him again. My gaze was steel, each word a hammer strike against his conscience.
"Listen carefully, Calvin Wolfe," I said steadily despite my churning emotions. "I will never allow my children to live with a murderer. Never."
"And if you push this," I continued, meeting his Alpha gaze without flinching, "I will fight you with everything I have. The Pack laws protect cubs from danger, even if that danger comes from their father’s poor judgment."
