Chapter 103: Omake 2: The Innerworkings of the Beast Kingdom

"So, you can start by shadowing my meetings. I meet with each of the four Maou individually each week, along with once with Azazel, Yasaka, Velrissa, Vargan, and Nurarihyon. Those are just the scheduled ones, but I also take anywhere from 4-5 other meetings every day regarding more current things, such as the training of soldiers, moves other factions are making, or the development of infrastructure within the kingdom," Raya said very un-simply, not taking notice of Saya’s swirling eyes, the woman looking a bit dizzy as Raya explained her duties.

"Of course, those are just the surface-level things. After you’ve come to the meetings for a few weeks, you can start taking over on some of them, and then you can start learning about the real work," Raya finished casually, blinking as she finally noticed Saya’s dizzy expression.

"T-That’s not even the real work?" Saya asked incredulously, staring blankly at Raya.

"Not having second thoughts, are you?" Raya giggled lightly at the woman’s shock, "You’re the one who asked to learn about this stuff."

"Y-Yes, I did, and I’m not backing down!" Saya shook her head quickly, pushing away her confused thoughts as she blushed a bit, "V-Valon’s done so much for us, for me... He saved not only me and my friends, but also my mother! I want to be of use to him, and you’re in such an important position even though your, um..."

"Weak?" Raya smirked as Saya floundered to find a nicer way to call Raya weak, the pink-haired woman blushing even more at her words, but the wolf-girl wasn’t offended, "It’s fine. I wouldn’t say I’m as weak as you are, but in the grand scheme of the kingdom, I’m definitely weak. I’m barely stronger than a foot soldier."

"R-Right, but you’re also the most important part of his kingdom! I want to be like that!" Saya nodded rapidly, her blush disappearing as she became serious and her face was set in a determined stare, "So, teach me! No matter how much it is to handle, I can do it!"

Raya just stared back at Saya’s determined expression for a second, and then slowly nodded with a small grin, "Alright. Since you’re so set on this, we can skip all the shadowing stuff. Instead, you can start learning about the inner workings of the kingdom personally."

"Thank you," Saya smiled back at Raya gratefully, then blinked as she realized she didn’t know what that meant. "Wait, so what am I going to be doing?"

"Just going around to get a better idea of what goes into running the kingdom," Raya waved her hand dismissively, glancing away as she suspiciously wouldn’t meet Saya’s eyes, "It’ll be pretty easy, and it won’t take long."

"Oh, alright," Saya nodded, still smiling as she stood up, having no idea just how treacherous the ’easy’ task was going to be, "I’m ready!"

Trust me, you really aren’t.

But, Raya hadn’t had a day off in a while, so instead of telling Saya that, she just smiled shakily, "Of course. Good luck..."

Saya was about to find out first-hand just how hard running an entire Kingdom, especially one made up of so many different species, truly was.

—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"SO, DOWN HERE IS WHERE WE MAKE TA WEAPONS AND ARMOR! I MADE TA KING’S SWORD PERSONALLY RIGHT HERE!" Vargan shouted proudly, causing Saya to wince as his voice overpowered the various clangings of metal as hammers hit anvils, "PRETTY AWESOME, RIGHT?!"

"Y-Yeah," Saya winced again as his voice, breathing slightly heavily as she glanced around, "D-Definitely... awesome?"

The building she and the Dwarven King were in was clearly a blacksmithery, as there were various dwarves and cyclops nearby hammering down on unfinished weapons or armor. Raya had sent Saya here first, telling her that taking inventory of the weapons and armor every week was necessary in order to keep up with the insane breeding rate of the direwolves.

As Saya stood in the dirty blacksmith, stepping over a piece of metal that was lazily lying on the floor, she was determined not to complain. She had asked for this - she had wanted to be useful to Valon, and to do that, this was necessary.

I just wish it wasn’t so hot!

But that didn’t mean she couldn’t be upset about how hot it was. The interior of the blacksmith was boiling for even a dwarf, and for a normal human like Saya? She had to be given numerous buffs by a succubus before even entering so she wouldn’t be injured, and even then, she felt like she was in the middle of a volcano.

But Raya wanted me to get down the ins and outs of how the kingdom works, so I can’t back down!

"So... this is what you guys do, huh?" Saya muttered, glancing around the room as she tried to push down her annoyance at how hot it was, "Create weapons and armor for the army?"

"Indeed," Vargan answered easily, grinning as he stopped yelling and just started talking loudly, "We can fight well if we need ta, but my people prefer ta create rather than destroy! We’re responsible for all ta armor and weaponry, as well as building ta infrastructure of the kingdom, though we receive some help from ta devils since they’ve joined."

"R-Right, so, um, the weapon count!" Saya finally spat out, looking down at a pile of papers she’d brought with her, her face becoming more serious, "How many are in production?"

"Five tahousand two hundred and seventa-five sets of armor are set ta be finished this week, along with two tahousand two hundred and eighta-five weapons," Vargan answered instantly, not missing a beat or needing to check.

"Five thousand two hundred and seventy-five?" Saya frowned, her eyes narrowing as she looked at the paper, "That’s less than expected. It says here that a bit over seven thousand are needed to prepare for the entering of the world Valon is clearing out right now."

"Seven tahousand? Raya told us ta increase the production rate, but by that much!" Vargan muttered, raising an eyebrow at Saya, "By ta end of ta week? That’s not possible! We’re already split with developing ta Land of ta Dead and other unused areas in ta Underworld, so there’s not enough manpower!"

"It says here that Valon requested that many soldiers personally," Saya frowned, narrowing her eyes as she looked back up, locking eyes with the former Dwarven King. "If that’s what he wants, then you need to get it done!"

Vargan blinked, staring back blankly at the woman’s intense stare for a moment. Then, he chuckled lightly.

"I can see why Raya thinks you’ll be a good aid fa her," Vargan grinned widely as the rather small and fragile girl, who was still taller than Vargan despite being rather short, made her demand fearlessly, "Fine, fine. I’ll work personally ta ensure that it’s done."

"Great!" Saya smiled brightly, "Raya was right - this stuff really is easy!"

Unfortunately, this was only the start of Raya’s day, and the rest of it wouldn’t be quite as easy.

—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"It says here that you’re supposed to be working on disrupting the multi-faction alliance," Saya stated, feeling like she was talking to a brick wall as she stood in a nearly pitch-black room, staring at the back of a man’s head. "You need to report the situation daily."

"If there’s something important, I’ll make it known," Ajuka said simply, not even turning around as he stared at a computer screen.

"...It says daily," Saya countered, frowning at his attitude as she got a bit annoyed, "Daily means every day, not when you feel like it!"

"I know," Was Ajuka’s well-thought-out and in-depth response.

"Then give the report!" Saya’s patience finally broke, and she yelled at the man with an annoyed look on her face.

"If there’s something important, I’ll make it known." Ajuka repeated casually, only pissing Saya off more.

"So, this is what you do, huh? Raya said you were one of the important parts of the kingdom, but you just sit in here and do nothing?!" Saya huffed, glaring at the back of Ajuka’s head.

"I wouldn’t say ’nothing’, but I suppose that description isn’t too far off. Many of my inventions don’t lead to anything, but that’s simply part of the process," Ajuka answered, and Saya groaned as she spun around, stomping out of his office and into the portal room outside.

I can see why Raya said he was annoying! At least the rest of them will be simple like the dwarves, right?

Saya was far from right.

—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

See! This one is going great!

Saya’s morale had made a comeback after dealing with the annoyance that was Ajuka as she sat in a rather fancy office, sitting across from a red-haired devil while Sirzechs pushed a paper towards her.

"This is the financial statement for the devil-based government, which includes donations from various noble families. Since His Highness took rule of our kind, the number of donations has increased a lot," Sirzechs said casually, sliding the paper across to Saya with a smile, "If there’s any other paperwork you’d like to see, I’ll grab it for you."

Why couldn’t the other devil be this easy to handle?!

Saya grinned, grabbing the paper and looking down at it, "Great! Thanks for being so-"

She abruptly stopped, freezing as her eyes scanned over the paper, "...Um, I think you gave me the wrong one."

"No, I’m quite sure that’s it," Sirzechs frowned, tilting his head curiously at her.

"But, it’s... blank?" Saya countered, holding up the paper, which was formatted with various boxes to be filled out and places to sign - all of which were empty.

He’s... he’s not going to be a problem, right?!

"Oh, yeah, I didn’t get around to doing it yet," Sirzechs chuckled sheepishly, "Ah, but don’t worry, I’ll have it done by the end of the week. You came earlier than expected."

Saya let out a sigh of relief as Sirzechs gave a reasonable explanation.

Right, Raya usually has this meeting at the end of the week, so it makes sense that he’s not prepared.

"Of course, I understand," Saya calmed down, nodding at Sirzechs easily, "Then, just let me see any paperwork that’s already done."

He’s got a boatload that he submits every week, so he should have a lot more done already.

Upon arriving in Sirzechs’ office, Saya had quickly realized that he was essentially the paperwork guy - which was later confirmed by Raya, as the other three Maou were too ’eccentric’ to get anything done in a reasonable time, so Sirzechs had to take on the brunt of the boring paperwork.

"Um... about that..." Sirzechs chuckled, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly, "Ah, usually my wife-maid Grayfia sets my schedule for me, but she’s assisting His Highness in his palace, so..."

Saya stared at him blankly, slowly looking past him at the massive stack of papers sitting in the corner of the room, which was almost as tall as she was, "...You haven’t done anything?" frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

"I still have two days left, though! I’ll get it done!" Sirzechs said very uncomfortingly, giving her a thumbs up and a bright smile.

Saya just continued to stare at him blankly.

Are all the devils this useless?!

—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Lord Falbium has a very important role in the kingdom - he’s a general who leads and manages the army!" Saya walked beside a very passionate maid, whose eyes were shining as they walked down the long, fancy-looking hallway, "There’s no greater general in any other faction than Lord Falbium!"

Well, this guy sounds serious!

"Then, I look forward to meeting him," Saya grinned, glad to finally be meeting a devil that seemed to take their role in Valon’s kingdom seriously.

"Meet him? Oh, you came at the wrong time, then," The maid frowned at her lightly, "Lord Falbium is asleep right now."

"Asleep? It’s noon," Saya deadpanned, but shrugged off the minor setback, "Ah, it’s probably because he works late, right? It’s fine, I can come back later to meet him!"

"Okay! Just come back between... 8:15 and 8:20!" The maid nodded, giving Saya a very specific and short timeframe.

"O-Only five minutes? Is he really that busy?" Saya muttered, her eyes wide and slightly impressed.

I can see why Valon put this guy in charge of the devil army! He’s a serious workhorse!

"Nope. That’s just when Lord Falbium is awake," The maid answered instead, her face completely serious.

"Like... when he wakes up?" Saya clarified, thinking she was just misunderstanding the devil.

I guess he just sleeps in really late?

But, the man was a devil after all. A weird sleep schedule wasn’t the oddest part about him.

"Well, sort of?" The maid responded, tilting her head at Saya, "He wakes up at 8:15, then he goes back to bed at 8:20."

Wait... he...

Saya stared at the maid blankly, then slowly opened her mouth, "S-So... he’s only awake... for five minutes every day?"

"On the weekdays! On the weekends, it’s only 2!"

Why are all these devils so useless?!

Saya left the Asmodeus Estate that day unsatisfied as she didn’t even talk to Falbium, but, unfortunately for Saya, she was about to meet the most useless devil of them all.

—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"OHHH MY GOOOOOSSSHHH! You look so cute in that, Say-tan!" Serafall cheered excitedly.

"T-Thanks?" Saya asked shakily, blushing as she glanced down at the magical girl outfit she was wearing.

Why the hell am I wearing this anyway?!

Saya, upon arriving at Serafall’s office, had promptly been forced into a magical girl outfit by the eccentric Maou. Saya wasn’t sure if some magic had been used on her, or if the female devil was just so intense and persuasive that she’d ended up in the outfit before she knew what was happening, but either way, she was now a magical girl.

"B-But, um, Serafall," Saya started as Serafall was bouncing around, inspecting every inch of Saya as she adjusted her magical girl outfit, "W-What, um, do you do again? For the kingdom, I mean!"

What could this insane woman possibly be in charge of?!

"Oh! I make all the girls look cute!" Serafall said as if it was obvious, giving Saya an overly exaggerated peace sign.

"Oh, of course, that makes complete sense- NO IT DOESN’T!" Saya cut herself off mid-sentence, not falling for the adorable Maou’s persuasive charm, "What do you mean you make them look cute?!"

"Wellllll, I was in charge of foreign affairs, but Val-tan said that me doing that was ’a bad idea that would only end in disaster!’" Serafall explained brightly, being far too cheerful for what she was saying, "Soooo, instead, I make cute outfits for his harem! Then, we have sex in those cute outfits!"

"W-What?!" Saya blushed deeply, taking a step back as Serafall explained cheerfully, "T-That’s all you do?!"

Seriously?! How are all the devils useless! But...

"W-What kind of outfits..." Saya trailed off, glancing away with red cheeks, "I-If I wore one, do you think Valon would..."

Serafall’s eyes brightened at her words, and she promptly launched forward and wrapped Saya in a tight hug, pulling Saya’s face into her rather large bosom, "Oh, yes! I have the perfect outfit for you! Val-tan will love it!"

In that moment, Saya’s quest to become Raya’s aid and become useful to Valon was put on hold, as she instead attempted to become ’useful’ in a very different, very sexy way.

But, once that was achieved, she would go back to her original goal - because she still had many more ’leaders’ within Valon’s kingdom to meet, and many more headaches to gain from their stupidity.
