The Devil's Betrothed-Chapter 782: The Truth Of Deity Of Star Constellation
Chapter 782: The Truth Of Deity Of Star Constellation
As they continued to discuss more, Drayce was unusually silent.
"What are you thinking about?" Arlan asked.
Drayce replied after a short silence as he looked at Evanthe, "Other than Solon, there is another deity that might help us."
Everyone looked at Drayce in surprise.
"Who are you talking about?" Evanthe asked.
"When Oriana was abducted to the Demon realm and we had no way to reach her, Mother had a way to help us," Drayce replied. "You went to someone to ask for help to set the star constellation, which could allow us to enter the Demon realm. The one who could have control over such a powerful phenomenon like the star constellation must be a deity—a deity who is in charge of setting the star constellation."
Evanthe and Xyron looked at each other as if they understood who Drayce was talking about.
"Mother, if possible, you can ask for that deity’s help. If they helped us back then, they might help us again—to enter the Heaven realm and even more," Drayce added.
Evanthe fell silent while the others looked at her.
"Evanthe, can that deity help us if you ask them?" Draven asked.
"That deity of the star constellation... he is Drayvor... Drayce’s father," Evanthe replied, shocking everyone.
They couldn’t believe Evanthe had gone to him for help for the sake of Oriana.
Drayce felt at a loss for words as well.
Xyron spoke, "Though he was no longer a god, he still remained the one to control the star constellation."
"He won’t help us against the Heaven realm," Evanthe added. "There is no use in talking about him."
There was a short, tense silence as she said it.
"Mother, that means you have a way to find him?" Drayce asked.
"I have a way to communicate with him when I am in need, that’s it," she replied.
"How?" Drayce asked, his tone serious.
Evanthe looked at him. Until now, he had never probed about his father, and today, he suddenly wanted to know everything. "Dray, if you think you can go to him and get him to help you against the gods, it will never happen. He is bound by the oaths he took when he turned into the Devil. So, you better drop the idea."
Drayce remained unaffected, though his mother had seen through him. Only he knew how desperate he was to protect his mate, and for that, he was willing to get help from anyone.
"Mother, I just want to know how you contacted him," Drayce said, his tone and gaze resolute, as if he would not let it go unless he got the answer.
He had always respected his mother’s wishes and never asked about anything she didn’t want to talk about, but that wasn’t the case now. A Dragon would always think of his mate first, prioritizing her safety above all else. This applied to the Devil as well, which was why, despite being away from Evanthe and lacking any bond, the Devil would come to her rescue whenever she pleaded.
Though reluctant, Evanthe replied, "When we met the last time..." she hesitated a little, "...I mean the night he and I mated, before leaving, he gave me a relic. A relic that I can infuse with my powers to call for his help. That day, when we needed his help to establish a star constellation and I disappeared, I was using that relic by infusing my powers. All I had to do was say what I needed, and it happened. We do not need to meet in person."
"That relic..."
"It’s meant only for me to use," Evanthe said before Drayce could say anything further. "It won’t work if you try to use it."
Drayce stayed quiet, his thoughts unreadable, but it was clear he was not calm at all.
"Dray, we can handle everything on our own," Arlan said, trying to coax him. "We have Oriana with us, and then the God of War as well, once we find his sword. Be patient. We might not need your father’s help. He can’t go against the Heaven realm, so he won’t help us even if we ask. There’s no point." fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
Drayce simply looked at his mother, who met his gaze with calm eyes, saying nothing.
To ease the tension, Xyron spoke. "King Drayce, I must tell you something."
Drayce looked at him, waiting for an explanation.
"Your father had to take an oath of living in isolation, and he was not allowed to have a partner or a family. Yet, he still had you—his son," Xyron said. "Do you know what happens when someone breaks an oath? They must endure brutal punishment, one that no one can easily withstand. I am certain that to bring you into this world, he must have suffered severe consequences."
"That was his decision and his selfishness—to have a child with the woman he loved. It has nothing to do with me," Drayce replied coldly. "A father who can’t even show himself before his child is not worth pitying. He had his own selfish motive in having a child to establish his love with his woman, and I have my own selfish motive in seeking him out to protect my woman. If I find him, I won’t hesitate to ask for his help. He owes me to make up for neglecting his duties toward the child he brought into this world for his own reasons."
"He did it to lift that curse," Evanthe spoke.
"He could have other demands, but he asked to have a child with you," Drayce countered. "Wasn’t he selfish?"
"It’s because I was sad that I could not have a child," Evanthe replied. "He wanted to fulfill my wish, as I could only have a child with him."
"He wanted to fulfill his woman’s wish. That wish gave him a chance to be with you—something he could never achieve due to the oaths he had taken," Drayce replied. "No matter how grand anyone makes it sound, to me, it will always be the same. All of this was just so he could have a child with you and then what? Leave that child to suffer on his own after you two have fulfilled your selfish desires."
Evanthe had no words. Drayce had never blamed her for anything, even after they reunited, but it seemed the bitterness he had been suppressing in his heart was finally surfacing—driven by his desperation to protect his mate.
She was to blame. Though she had her own difficulties, in the end, she could not deny that her son had suffered. Apologizing to him would never be enough.
Drayce stood up and left the drawing hall.
Silence settled over the room as they looked at each other.
Arlan stood up as well. "I’ll check on him," he said, before leaving.
It was the first time even Arlan saw Drayce losing his composure like this and even going to the length of blaming others. Seren’s absensce was truly affecting him gravely.
"Evanthe, he is just too restless," Draven said to her. "I am the same, but I have no one to blame but myself."
"I know and I don’t blame him. I and his father, we both have failed him," Evanthe replied as she looked at the empty chair where Drayce was sitting till now.
