The Devil Of Probability-Chapter 62: Dread And Ignorance
Roro soared through the crimson skies, and scarlet rain began to pour down onto his feathers. It gave him the appearance of a calamity in the air — something that shouldn’t exist here.
He was like an anomaly — a beauty that defied the cruel nature of the Hollow World.
The blood ran down his feathers like water against a window, the forever spiraling vortex shooting out those eye-catching halos that illuminated his path.
With a flap of his wings, Roro burst faster throughout the skies. In no time, he found himself at the other side of the state, his eyes scanning for Silas and his medic.
It didn’t take long before he found the two. The usual lazy Silas dragged his body around as if he were numb, and a slender woman walked beside him.
She had shoulder-length hair, the tips of which were dyed an eye-catching light pink. Her steps were coordinated, unlike Silas’s, but she had the same look of disdain on her face.
"Ughhh, I want this to end already... A burger sounds nice," she complained in a surprisingly soft voice.
Silas raised an eyebrow. It was both an awkward and confused glare that he gave her.
"Why a burger?"
"Why not?"
"...You’re a weird girl."
"Why, thank you!"
"Why do you keep saying why?..."
The woman didn’t respond, simply smiling. She moved her bangs out of the way of her eyes before continuing to walk. Silas didn’t wait for her, just continuing to drag his body along the pavement.
It was quite a nuisance to Roro watching the two, trying to find his opening to warn them. However, with all the buildings around mixed with the remains of Hollow Beasts, it was quite difficult to do so.
"Do you have water, Faith?"
"I told you my name is Faye. And no, I don’t."
This only seemed to make Silas’s agonizing step more noticeable. Roro, on the other hand, dodged a wire from a post, finally finding the opportunity to land on Silas’s shoulder.
Silas didn’t bother shrugging the bird off, simply rubbing his index along the crow’s beak. The crow cried out loudly, but Silas didn’t seem to understand this.
(Go away! Entity coming! Go away!)
These warnings persisted for around three minutes as the group walked around. Faye eventually got tired of the yelling, shooing the bird off of Silas.
Roro was sure to be agitated at this point, giving them one last warning before watching over them. From the other side of the state, he heard Simon’s voice call out to him.
(Watch over them for now. If the entity doesn’t show up soon, go warn the next duo.)
The bird nodded and hovered over the two as if he were part of their shadow. It was hard to notice him in the sky due to the rain, but it wasn’t as if the entity could see either way.
Simon and Alina had already tested this; it reacted to their spiritual presence over any and everything. Silas and Faye’s pace only seemed to get sloppier from here.
In the end, they found themselves sitting on a bench, completely slumped.
"Maybe a burger would do right now."
"Especially with mustard..." Faye added on.
They seemed interlinked for a moment, taking a heavy sigh. In unison, the two leaned their backs against the bench, facing the crimson sky.
Silas created a rhythm between each blink, each droplet of blood missing his eyes. Faye, on the other hand, closed hers completely, a much more effective method.
Then, the rain began to slow.
Drip. Drop. Drip. Drop.
"Ow!" Silas hissed.
He swiftly looked down towards his feet once more, covering his "harmed" eye. Faye just laughed at him, sensing he was not in danger.
A grumble came from the lazy young man, and a muffled sound exited his lips.
"It’s not funny."
This mumbled noise seemed to alert something in Faye’s mind.
"Say that again?" She calmly asked.
Silas’s lips continued to move, but there was no sound this time. He was visibly slower until appearing to be frozen in time.
"Silas?"
Before she could comprehend what was happening, Silas’s hand moved with speed that resembled lightning compared to earlier.
Bang!
Faye turned her head immediately, scouting where his Signature had gone.
Then, she saw it. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
The entity must have had the same figure as an average male, except that it did not at the same time.
It resembled pure darkness, flickers of golden brown light shining through its body like pimples.
It had no mouth, no eyes, no skin — it resembled a darkness that could consume any and everything it ran into.
It stood completely still, like a statue. Silas’s shot hadn’t even affected it! It was so still, in fact, that what could be presumed as its face wasn’t facing Silas.
Then, instead of facing Silas, it glared up at Roro, who was lurking in the shadows. Roro cried out, turning the other way.
The crow didn’t think twice before returning to Simon. With Roro gone, its gaze lured down into Silas.
Before it got the chance to rush at Silas, he fired five shots into its head. At most, it made the entity flinch before it lunged at Silas.
Faye tried to intercept the entity, a large, bamboo-green scythe extending out of her body.
[Reaper]
Her motions were fluid, her strike aimed directly at the neck. It was sure to be a kill.
At the moment where the blade met the entity’s neck, it simply phased through.
"Huh?!"
Their shock didn’t last long, turning into dread as the entity reached Silas. Like Simon, the same effect was inflicted on him.
He bounced back and forth between walls, almost like a ping pong until he was launched into the sky.
He was still for about half a second in the sky, and the entity faded into the air again. Faye didn’t care for this, as Silas came crashing down, she perfectly aligned herself with his body.
At this critical moment, she lunged her blade into Silas’s stomach, making him sigh, even as he coughed blood.
"Thank you."
"Can’t have you dying too soon. Or else Alina would blame me."
She lifted him back down to the floor, a leaf-green aura enveloping Silas’s body.
When Faye pulled the blade out — his wounds were fully healed.
