The Devil Does Not Need to Be Defeated-Chapter 284: Vengeance? Vengeance!
Chapter 284: Vengeance? Vengeance!
After successfully taming a dragon, Shien happily went back to camp and rested while in a great mood.
Airi had Yulin stay with her with the justification that she’ll keep an eye on Yulin.
O course, it wasn’t because Airi wanted to keep trying to steal Yulin. She just wanted to give Yulin some help.
“The Demon Refining ritual is still ongoing. Any demonic beast or demon within the ritual will slowly end up going berserk. This is true for this child as well. She only managed to temporarily escape its influence, so if she doesn’t remain by my side, then she’ll end up going mad sooner or later anyways.”
It’s for that reason that Airi kept Yulin with her.
Unlike the humans, for whom it’s their first time encountering the Demon Refining ritual, the demons have experienced tons of Demon Refining rituals over the millennia. Thus, they knew quite well just how they should deal with it.
Putting aside everything else, the reason why Jacinta, Jace, and Liece were able to freely move about within the ritual without being affected is all because the demons have invented methods of keeping the ritual from affecting them.
Airi is a Demon Lord, so she’s unaffected by the ritual. Even so, she still knows of those methods. Worst comes to worst, she’s still able to use her won magic power to keep Yulin from going mad, so her keeping Yulin company really is the best choice here.
Thus, while Shien returned to camp, Yulin stayed by Airi’s side.
Yulin watched as Shien left before then turning her head toward a certain direction. There, her eyes started showing a cold attitude.
“Eh?” Airi noticed that and looked toward Yulin, asking in confusion, “What is it?”
“Roar!” Yulin let out a roar at Airi with a tone filled with anger and hatred.
Airi is the lord of all dragons, so she was naturally able to understand Yulin’s words.
“You’re saying that you ended up falling in a trap set by a bunch of humans, and nearly ended up turning into a refining demon?” Airi narrowed her eyes in understanding of Yulin’s meaning and replied in an understated tone, “So you want to find them and take revenge?”
“Roar!” Yulin roared out again, her roar filled with killing intent.
Airi laughed at that.
“You’re right of course.” Airi extended her hand and caressed Yulin’s scales, muttering, “Since you’re been humiliated so, can you really call yourself a dragon anymore if you don’t properly pay them back with utter annihilation?”
Even putting aside the fact that Yulin was originally a mighty demonic beast at level 90+. For her to end up tricked by a bunch of weak humans, if she doesn’t properly vent this rage, then she won’t have the right to call herself a mighty demonic beast anymore.
“Then go ahead.” Airi had no intention of stopping Yulin. She merely spoke calmly, “Repay every bit of the humiliation you felt onto those contemptible humans.”
Hearing that, Yulin’s eyes flashed viciously and, wit a roar, flapped the wings on her back, blasting out gusts of wind, and flew into the sky.
The next second, Yulin blasted off toward a certain direction with amazing speed.
Airi simply watched her leave with a grin on her face.
“This dragon really is to my tastes.”
It’s just too bad that she couldn’t take it in.
“Ah, whatever. We’ll have plenty of time together.”
Airi thus also extended out her wings and flew off.
…
On the other side, Vask’s group was currently arduously passing through a small desert.
Quite a few of the nobles were already exhausted, visibly showing their tiredness.
“S-still not there yet?”
“That damn black dragon. Just how far did it fly?”
“When we catch up to it, I’ll definitely tear its hide of and use it to make a top quality dragonhide armor.”
“Then I’m going to take one of its fangs to make a sword with.”
“Add me to that as well.”
The nobles complained in such a manner.
As nobles who were spoiled from birth, it’s only natural that they were unable to do an effective march. If not for the fact that they’re rich and had thus prepared large quantities of stamina recovery potions, they would have long since collapsed.
This place really did not suit those noble lords. It’s not a place that they’d normally come to.
If not for their great numbers and their knights guarding them, they wouldn’t have even been able to deal with all the high leveled demonic beasts that they encountered on the way to reach the deepest area of the Ataru Canyons.
Vask on the other hand held an icy expression. He hasn’t said a word the whole time.
Out of everyone here, Vask is also the oldest. He’s already over 80 this year, and he’s also level 78. If not or the fact that he’s just too old, he would definitely have been able to join the Royal Knights.
Most of the people here are nobles around 40 years of age, and their levels aren’t low either. Even the lowest leveled among them is level 60. Otherwise, the Garibaldi family wouldn’t have bothered to collaborate with them, allowing them to take the Demon Lord Spawn into the Ataru Canyons to undertake the Demon Refining ritual.
Unfortunately for them, unexpected incidents kept on happening ever since the ritual started.
First, there was the news that the princess’s representative had entered the Canyons. Then the people sent out to pursue Diere and her party was slow to return. Then, even the sacrifice, the black dragon, had ran away. Even their communications with the Garibaldi family had for some reason suddenly cut off and couldn’t be contacted no matter what. There really were just far too many problems.
This made Vask realize that things may have turned rather troublesome.
Perhaps their plan has already been disrupted by others. That’s a very real possibility here.
Thus, Vask was rather irritated.
However…
(It’s fine even if the plan fails.)
So long as they can kill that woman, Vask doesn’t care about that plan or whatever.
The nobles here are all people who greatly hates Diere.
During the mass assassination incident ten years ago, everyone here had ended up loosing family from the Old Demon Faction’s assassins.
Vask was the same. He originally had a great family, but it was utterly destroyed in that single night ten years ago.
And this is all because of that damnable mother of Diere’s.
Thus, with Vask included, everyone in the Capital who have lost family all hated Diere.
The real criminal, Diere’s mother, was already slain by Aldia.
The Kingdom also tried to get an explanation from the Ragna Empire, but the Empire simply denied it all. They claimed that they never ordered Diere’s mother to do such a thing, that everything is all because that woman was seduced by the Old Demon Faction, and that she did the crime all of her own accord.
Since there weren’t any evidence, in the end, the Kingdom was naturally unable to do anything to the Ragna Empire.
As for the Old Demon Faction, they’re a bunch of lunatics. Nobody knows where they’ve gone, so they couldn’t be found at all.
In this situation, the nobles who were unable to vent their hatred ended up pointing their swords at the only target they could.
That being Diere.
Vask himself thinks of killing Diere in every single moment, in order to take vengeance.
No, really, it should instead be to vent the hatred in his heart.
The nobles here all gathered here for the same goal.
Therefore…
“No matter what, we have to kill the child of that woman.”
Vask’s expression warped.
And, just at that moment, a group of the knights shouted out in alarm.
“Lord Vask!”
“A demonic beast is approaching!”
“So fast…!”
“T-This hostile reaction is…!?”
The knights who had the [Enemy Detection] skill were all shaken.
Vask was similarly shaken. He suddenly raised his head and looked up into the sky.
The next second, Vask saw it.
“Roar-!!!”
Accompanied by an earth-shattering roar, a pitch black dragon flew in from beyond the horizon and stopped above them.
Its eyes were filled with violence and wrath.
