Chapter 223: The Unbelievably Strange Monster

“Rip!”

When the blade, flashing with a cold glare while mixed with the crimson of the magic blade, slashed forth within the forest, a vicious looing wound appeared upon the giant body of the half centipede monster.

“Rip–rip–rip–”

Two figures constantly flashed about around the monster like meteors, and even move was accompanied by a crimson flash of a blade, cutting into the monster, ripping wound after wounds into the monster.

“Gaaa——!!!”

The monster let out a roar, although it’s unknown if it’s due to pain or rage. The centipede like body furiously thrashed about while it spewed out blazing hot dragon breath from its maw, enveloping the surrounding area as it constantly tried to vaporize those two figures constantly cutting at it.

Unfortunately for it, the monster’s speed is nowhere near that of its two opponents. Although its enormous body shook the earth with its thrashing, and its dragon breath had burned the woods around it to nothingness, leaving it a scorched wasteland, it still couldn’t so much as touch its two opponents.

“Boom!”

A blazing blast of dragon breath once again swept across the area, scorching the earth as it tried to catch up to one of the figures fighting it.

“Me again?”

Shien was basically speechless as he flew about like a streaking meteor, dodging the blazing breath blasting at him.

By now, he has started to strongly suspect that the monster has a grudge against men, or maybe just him, with how much it’s targeting him.

Ever since the start of the battle until now, even though Lucy caused just as much damage to the monster as Shien did, the number of times that he was attacked far surpassed that for Lucy. It really was despair enducing.

“It’s not like I’v learned a [Taunt] type skill, so why?”

Shien was almost the point of cursing out loud. However, he didn’t dare to relax. He had long since already brought out the [Limit Evolution] skill, enhancing himself with enormous amounts of magic power flowing through him as he dodged the oncoming breaths aimed at him.

Although Shien does have several max leveled resistance skills, which logically means that he shouldn’t fear injury. However, when he thought that, Lucy had told him something.

“Dragon breath is a kind of attack that can pierce all defenses. Unless it’s the effect of a unique or special skill, any defense, no matter how powerful, will only be burned away like its made of paper before a dragon’s breath attack!”

Thus, Shien’s resistance skills are completely useless against the monster’s dragon breth.

To block the dragon breath, the only options are either a defensive type unique or special skill, or to unseal the Holy Sword and use its protection to forcibly pit its protections against the dragon breath.

But if he were to unseal the Holy Sword, the magic power of the Holy Sword will end up turning extremely obvious. If there happened to be any demons observing nearby, it would definitely be noticed.

Due to that fact, Lucy suggested that they deal with the issue without unsealing the Holy Sword.

This was another factor that nearly pushed Shien to swear out loud.

“With how huge a commotion this whole thing has been, it’s basically already telling everyone that something’s happening here. If there really are anyone observing nearby, then never mind demon, even a normal person would have noticed already, right?”

To worry over something like the magic power from Holy Swords alarming the demons in this sort of situation. That’s basically trying to close the stable door after the horse has bolted.

While Shien spat out his vitriol, his hands haven’t slowed down at all. He slashed down upon the oncoming dragon breath with his sword fully enhanced by [Magic Sword].

Instantly, the dragon breath that could break through all defenses was cut apart, dispersing into the surrounding area.

Obviously, it’s utterly impossible for even dragon breath to vaporize the Holy Sword.

That’s why Shien was able to cut apart dragon breaths with his [Magic Sword] enhanced Holy Sword.

However…

“Gaaaa——!!!”

The monster continued to roar. Although it couldn’t do anything to Shien or Lucy, it hasn’t fallen either.

That’s because its heavily wounded body will waver like a mirage every so often, after whiuch all the wounds on it would have disappeared like they never were.

“Is this monster unkillable?”

Lucy leaped up into the air, her body still encircled by the light of the [Protection of Heroic Spirits], and broke through past the dragon breath. She dashed behind the monster, stared at the huge body, once again restored as good as new, and her beautiful face shifted into a deep frown.

“This should be the effect of that [Semi-Corporeal] skill, right?”

Shien suspected in his mind as he dashed to the front of the monster to draw its fire.

Logically speaking, even if was a demonic beast that lacks a physical body, it would still take actual damage when cut by a [Magic Sword]. Never mind one whose body was merely semi-corporeal.

[Magic Sword] wasn’t just sharp and powerful. It’s the trump card for melee combat, capable of destroying practically anything. So long as the level is high enough, it could even cut apart barriers or spells, as well as damaging anything that could normally nullify physical damage.

Add in the fact that there will still be some power mixed in from the sealed Holy Sword, an evil creature like that shouldn’t have been able to ignore the damage caused by the Holy Sword.

Could it be because it’s some kind of unnatural and unknown creature?

“Boom!”

With an explosive sound, the monster’s dragon breath blasted forth once again, melting even the ground here it passed, melding it into glowing lava.

Shien and Lucy dodged away in separate directions, once again avoiding the terrifying dragon breath without being harmed at all.

However, that monster’s dragon breath really is quite scary. The mountain itself was started to get vaporized, making it rather unstable.

“We can’t keep going like this!” Shien shouted out at Lucy, “Stop hesitating! Lucy! Use the Holy Sword!”

“Fine!” Lucy stopped being stubborn as well.

She’s not stupid after all. The fight has already gotten to this state, so anyone there to notice would already have noticed. There’s no more need to hesitate on that basis anymore.

Thus…

“Heresu!”

With that short incantation, the Holy Sword in Lucy’s hands suddenly shuddered before the surface of its blade shifted, peeling off section by section, before finally fully withdrawing to the sealing ring on the handle.

At the same time, Shien also acted.

Shien landed right before the monster and stared into it intently.

“I’ll use you to test of my magic.”

With that, Shien raised his hand, concentrating his magic power on his fingertip.

“[Enchant – Bind].”

With that chant, Shien enchanted the area here with a certain status.

The target was the earth under their feet.

“Rumble…!”

Instantly, the earth begun shaking.

That monster seemed to have noticed the danger. However, just as it tried to do something, the ground beneath it suddenly split apart, dropping it into the abyss like fissure that just appeared.

“[Enchant – Harden].”

Then, Shien enchanted the ground with a new status, covering the ground with an enormous wave of magic, turning it unbelievably hard.

“Gaaaa——!!!”

The monster furiously struggled, but all it could do was shake the earth without being able to escape the binding of the fissure.

And by then, Lucy had already jumped up high into the air as she shot forth.
