The Devil Doctor's Spicy Love-Chapter 425: Engagement chaos (15)
Mingshen stared at him, recalling Shi Ningkai from the Medical Association. It was him who had spoken in his favor when the matter about Ehuang had blown up. The fact that he had done a surgery on her without parental consent didn’t sit well with the Association and there was a near threat for him to lose his medical license. It was Shi Ningkai who had stepped up in his favor.
As Shi Ningkai tremblingly got up on his feet, Mingshen noticed him limping on one foot. He crisply remembered how he had stabbed his scalpel in the She leader’s ankle during a physical altercation with him at the charity banquet. Jia and he had attended one of the She cult’s gatherings after which Mingshen had chased him, but his opponent wasn’t quite naive to be caught either.
Jia observed Mingshen’s gaze, studying the myriad of thought processes churning in his mind.
"What is it?"
He leaned closer and said, "Now I know why we never caught that leader admitted in any hospital for the wound I had stabbed him with."
A man stabbed in the ankle in his condition had to be admitted to a hospital for emergency treatment and Mingshen had hoped that such a person’s description would hit up like a Christmas tree. But they never found any man admitted to any hospital for a stab injury to his ankle.
Jia threw a glance at Shi Ningkai.
"He is a doctor himself."
And now Mingshen felt stupid about himself. He was always proud to claim that he was blessed with the far superior good looks coupled with a genius brain.
"I should have seen it. If it was me in his place, I’d have headed straight to my lab as well. I didn’t need hospital care."
Which told him that Shi Ningkai definitely has such a similar facility of his own.
"I’m an idiot," Mingshen’s gaze darkened, apparently feeling disdainful about himself.
Lihua, who was standing just a little farther from him, gasped. "I cannot believe it...The evil doctor called himself an idiot. Wei, did you hear that?"
Like the dutiful husband he was, Wei nodded. "Yes, I did."
"So we are in the same category now!" Her eyes sparkled.
Mingshen looked back and sneered. "No chance."
She snorted. "An idiot is an idiot. You cannot go back on your own words now."
Zhuo Meihui looked at him and sneered. "So you are the nasty doctor from the infamous She. I finally get to see your face now."
She then glared at Hou Huan as she pointed at him. "Now tell everyone, Mrs. Hou! How you used this doctor and his connections to get your sick son with more ’fresh’ women’s supply."
Some guests visibly backed off with her choice of words.
"Don’t spew nonsense! He is just Jielun’s doctor, dedicated to treating him!"
"Dedicated to treating him or dedicated to worsen Jielun’s condition! He is from that infamous She gang which were a bunch of assassins killing people! A doctor coming from an assassin gang can be innocent too? Of course he isn’t because that wasn’t the kind of doctor you wanted in the first place. You wanted a doctor who could bend his ethics and principles!"
While Hou Huan and Zhuo Meihui were consumed in their own catfight, Yang Bingqing felt like she was completely cut off from the present world at the moment. Her memories spun to the past days when they had spent their time as the most feared assassin gang.
But what she had always treasured the most was her bonds with her gang. Though the gang had disbanded, their friendship hadn’t ended and would never be. But as she saw Shi Ningkai standing before her - the left hand man she had trusted her life with at some point, stabbed like a betrayal she had never felt before.
Yang Bingqing had plunged daggers through the chests of many, but it was the first time she felt how piercing and twisting the pain was.
At her side, Yang Cheng slightly frowned, seeing her in a dazed state. He, too, knew Shi Ningkai, but only from the medical fraternity’s perspective. Naturally, it did come as a shock to him that a well-respected doctor like him was involved in such dirty criminal activities, but then again, he had seen many such horrible and bent doctors in his life.
What he didn’t understand was Yang Bingqing’s sudden change of expression. Yet, he observed the same expression on Xie Zi Han’s face as well.
Hou Huan had had enough. At this point, the entire Hou family’s reputation had gone down the drain. Reading the cue, Zhong Kai stepped in and asked the guests to leave.
"Hah! Why should we listen to you! You are just as involved in this dirty politics and now you want to send us away to cover up everything."
"It’s too late. You are just as involved in ruining that honest cop’s life and snatching his life away that should have been his," one scorned.
Zhong Kai clenched his jaw. But he controlled his rage. Thinking about Lingyun had always made his blood boil. Shilin watched his expression contorting with ugliness. He was standing at a position and title where his father deserved to be. Yet, now he was rotting in a jail cell, accused with false charges that forced him to be away from his family.
"We have to maintain order here. Please leave," he said with a stern voice.
Jia’s eyes narrowed. But she wasn’t afraid of the guests leaving, for her own team was on stand-by outside. There wouldn’t be a single person in this party she would allow to escape.
"Nobody will leave."
To everyone’s shock, it was Yang Bingqing who announced it. Xie Zi Han was worried that she would practically choke Shi Ningkai and commit a murder in front of everyone, but he chose to trust her for now.
Even Jia and Mingshen cast her a look of bewilderment. Yang Bingqing had intervened before, stepping on Hou Huan’s tail many times, but her voice and gaze felt different this time.
It proved when she slowly walked toward Shi Ningkai, standing before him with a deadpan expression.
"Tell me it isn’t you and I will still believe you, Ningkai."
