The Destiny Villainess Wants Me To Work!-Chapter 135: Begging!
"They took Mama away... please save her..."
Her innocent cry and those words struck him hard.
Gao Xufan’s mind went blank.
His hand, still holding the glass, trembled violently. The liquid inside rippled, nearly spilling over.
His gaze dropped slowly to his daughter, then lifted again toward Ye Chen.
Fear, real and undisguised, finally surfaced in his eyes.
"W-what did you say...?" His voice was hoarse, barely holding together.
"Who... took Han Mei?"
"Uwaaah... those strange uncles... they were so scary..."
Little Mimi clung to Gao Xufan’s legs as she sobbed uncontrollably, her small body trembling with every breath. Her fingers tightened around his clothes as if she were afraid that if she let go, even he would be taken away.
"Mom was crying... she told me to run... but they hit her..."
Her broken words came out in fragments, mixed with hiccups and tears, but each sentence struck Gao Xufan like a blade twisting deeper into his chest.
His body froze.
For a moment, his mind went completely blank.
Then everything came rushing back—fear, dread, and a suffocating sense of helplessness.
His hand slowly tightened around the glass he was holding. The veins on the back of his hand bulged faintly as his grip unconsciously increased. The dark red liquid inside trembled violently, almost spilling over.
His lips parted slightly, but no sound came out.
Before he could even process what to do—A soft chuckle echoed through the room.
"Fufu..."
The sound was light, almost amused.
But in this moment, it felt colder than anything else.
"Is this your child, Mayor Gao?"
Ye Chen’s voice followed, gentle and curious, as if he had just seen something interesting.
"What a cute child."
Gao Xufan’s body stiffened instantly.
The last trace of composure on his face collapsed.
His expression turned pale—ashen, almost lifeless.
He instinctively stepped forward, pulling his daughter behind him, shielding her with his body.
"D-don’t worry, Mr Ye..." he said hurriedly, forcing the words out through a dry throat. "I’ll send her away immediately. She won’t disturb you."
His voice trembled despite his efforts to control it.
He didn’t dare look directly at Ye Chen.
Didn’t dare show even the slightest hint of anger.
Because right now, he didn’t know if his wife was still alive.
"Oh?" Ye Chen’s tone lifted slightly. "She’s not a bother at all."
He stood up slowly from the sofa, taking his time, as if there were no urgency in the world. The cigar between his fingers released a thin trail of smoke as he walked forward.
Each step was unhurried and casual.
But Gao Xufan felt his heartbeat grow heavier with every step Ye Chen took.
By the time Ye Chen stopped in front of them, Gao Xufan’s back was already damp with cold sweat.
Ye Chen crouched down slightly, lowering himself to Little Mimi’s level.
His gaze softened, and he smiled.
"You dote on her like a little princess, don’t you?"
His tone was warm, almost approving. As if he were speaking to an old friend about family matters.
Little Mimi shrank slightly behind her father at first, instinctively afraid of the unfamiliar man.
But the mention of her mother made her hesitate.
Her eyes, still wet with tears, looked at Ye Chen.
"U-uncle..." she stammered softly, her voice trembling. "Can you... bring my mom back?"
For a brief moment, Ye Chen’s smile widened.
"Of course."
He answered without hesitation, his voice gentle, reassuring.
"Don’t worry. Your mom and dad... will always be together."
The words sounded comforting.
But something about the way he said them made Gao Xufan’s heart sink violently.
A chill crawled up his spine.
He slowly lifted his head, his gaze locking onto Ye Chen.
There was something wrong.
Very wrong.
Just as a surge of anger began to rise in his chest, it was about to get uncontrollable.
Ye Chen straightened up and turned his gaze back to him.
"Mayor Gao," he said casually, as if reminding him of something trivial, "how long are you going to keep your daughter waiting?"
His lips curved slightly.
"Can’t you see she’s crying?"
Gao Xufan’s breath caught.
"Hurry up," Ye Chen added lightly, "go reunite with your wife."
The words were spoken so naturally.
As if he were suggesting something completely normal.
Gao Xufan felt his heartbeat become chaotic.
His fingers trembled.
"I... I don’t understand what Mr Ye means..." he said slowly, forcing himself to sound steady.
Every word was carefully controlled.
Even now—
He didn’t dare confront him.
Didn’t dare accuse him.
"Could it be... Mr Ye knows where my wife is?"
He lowered his head slightly, hiding the flicker of rage in his eyes.
He needed confirmation.
Is she still alive?
Only then...
Only then could he think of anything else.
Ye Chen tilted his head slightly, as if finding the question amusing.
"Your wife?"
He repeated softly.
Then, casually, he pointed at the glass in Gao Xufan’s trembling hand.
"Isn’t she already here?"
For a second, the world seemed to stop.
Gao Xufan’s pupils contracted violently.
His gaze dropped to the glass in disbelief.
Then snapped back to Ye Chen.
Before he could react, Ye Chen leaned in slightly.
Close enough that Gao Xufan could see the faint curve of his lips.
Close enough to feel the coldness in his breath.
"Oh," Ye Chen said, as if correcting himself.
"I misspoke."
His voice lowered.
The smile on his face twisted—just slightly.
"What I meant is..." He paused.
"It’s your wife’s blood."
The words fell lightly. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
But to Gao Xufan—They exploded like thunder.
His mind went blank.
His body swayed slightly, as if he had lost balance.
The hand holding the glass trembled so violently that a few drops of blood spilt over the edge, landing on the floor with soft, almost inaudible sounds.
His lips opened, but no sound came out.
Immense rage surged up from deep within his chest—raw, violent, uncontrollable.
For a fleeting moment, he wanted to grab the gun hidden at his waist.
Wanted to pull the trigger.
