The Demon with Holy Radiance-Chapter 60: Impossible! Absolutely Impossible
Wen Yin paused, a flicker of embarrassment on her face. She quickly adjusted her position and walked toward the Earth Worm Mother.
Yang An took a long look at the terrifying, ugly face before him, feeling goosebumps rise all over his skin.
The Earth Worm Mother had opened its mouth wide, extending its long, black, fleshy tongue, seemingly delighted to welcome their arrival.
’Am I sure going into this thing’s stomach isn’t just feeding it a meal?’
Yang An shivered. He watched as Wen Yin reached the Earth Worm Mother, stepped onto its long tongue, and began walking toward its massive mouth.
Left with no choice, Yang An gritted his teeth and followed.
By the time he reached the Earth Worm Mother’s tongue, Wen Yin was already nearing its mouth.
Yang An stepped onto the fleshy tongue on the ground. This black, meaty tongue was the walkway into the Earth Worm Mother’s mouth.
Stepping on it felt soft and uneven. It was covered in many raised fleshy buds, like round balls of meat.
Each one was the size of a fist, and they were densely packed together.
’Are these the damn thing’s taste buds?’
A chill ran through Yang An, but he stepped on anyway, making his way to the edge of the Earth Worm Mother’s giant mouth.
As he got closer, a foul stench washed over him, strong enough to make a person pass out.
Yang An frowned, suppressing his discomfort. He looked up at the Earth Worm Mother’s black teeth, each one as tall as a man and as wide as a door panel.
He was genuinely afraid that as he walked into its mouth, the creature would suddenly snap its jaws shut.
Fortunately, Wen Yin was standing on one of the Earth Worm Mother’s teeth waiting for him, and the creature hadn’t moved at all.
"Junior Brother, don’t delay."
After reminding Yang An, Wen Yin leaped down.
Yang An had no choice but to hurry and follow. He used the Cloud-Stepping Technique to leap directly over the row of the Earth Worm Mother’s massive teeth.
Once inside the Earth Worm Mother’s oral cavity, he found it wasn’t much different from a human’s. All he could see were thick, fleshy walls.
Disgusting mucus dripped from the fleshy walls everywhere.
Directly ahead was a pitch-black opening.
That was clearly the entrance to the Earth Worm Mother’s digestive tract.
’What species did this damn thing even cultivate from?’ Yang An suddenly wondered.
It had an ugly human face, and even its internal structure was the same, yet behind its head was the fat, fleshy body of a worm.
This kind of Demon Fiend couldn’t possibly look more disgusting.
Soon, the two arrived one after another at the entrance to the digestive tract. The light from Yang An’s Bone Relic Buddha Radiance illuminated the area, allowing them to see everything clearly.
They walked down the slimy passage. The further they went, the slicker it became. They couldn’t feel even a hint of airflow, and it grew hotter and hotter.
After walking for some time, they seemed to arrive in a large space within the Earth Worm Mother’s stomach. Suddenly, they saw more than ten Earth Worms lying there quietly, sucking at the mucus on the fleshy walls.
These Earth Worms were much smaller. Although they couldn’t compare to the Earth Worm Mother, each was at least ten feet long and looked more like a proper worm.
At least they didn’t have that ugly human face. Instead, their heads were a mass of crowded, wrinkled flesh, which was somewhat more acceptable to Yang An.
Below the heads of these Earth Worms was a ring of tendrils as long as their bodies, slightly curved. The tendrils on their backs were shorter and stood straight up.
Wen Yin led Yang An to a randomly chosen Earth Worm, and the two of them jumped onto its back.
The Earth Worm seemed to notice them and stopped sucking mucus. From below the ring of tendrils on its head, a dozen or so blood-vessel-like feelers slowly extended.
Wen Yin reached out and grabbed the feelers.
The feelers began to intertwine, eventually wrapping around Wen Yin’s hand.
"Junior Brother, let’s go!"
Wen Yin reminded Yang An without turning her head.
As she spoke, Yang An noticed that the ring of tendrils, which had been spread out like a peacock’s tail, slowly retracted, encasing the entire Earth Worm from head to tail.
’Senior Sister said these Earth Worms can travel quickly underground. Don’t tell me it’s because of these tendrils?’
’Are they going to spin?’
Yang An guessed. He quickly responded to Senior Sister Wen Yin and reached out to firmly grab the upright tendrils in front of him.
The next moment, just as Yang An had thought, the long tendrils began to slowly rotate.
Carrying Wen Yin and Yang An, the Earth Worm beneath them leaped up and charged forward.
In just a few breaths, the Earth Worm carried them out of the Earth Worm Mother’s stomach and plunged headfirst into the dirt.
GRIND GRIND GRIND—
The tendrils encasing the Earth Worm’s body began to spin at high speed, pulverizing the surrounding soil as if it were tofu and flinging it backward, allowing them to travel rapidly through the earth.
Yang An could only hear a sound like rushing water, but the high-speed tendrils were perfectly sealed, not letting a single speck of dirt leak inside.
’This strong sense of déjà vu...’
’Holy shit!’
’A tunnel boring machine!!’
’And a high-speed one at that!’
Yang An was stunned. He never thought a Demon Fiend could have such a wonderful use. It was just like riding a subway, except with zero comfort to speak of.
Wen Yin, at the front, seemed to be controlling the Earth Worm and guiding it to their destination. Not wanting to disturb her, Yang An grabbed the tendril in front of him, sat down cross-legged, and planned to use the time to condense his Mana.
He had to admit, sitting on the Earth Worm’s fleshy body was quite soft, though it was extremely bumpy.
Time passed, neither fast nor slow, but the journey was an ordeal.
After all, they were traveling underground, so there was no scenery to see—only pulverized black soil and rock.
But after several hours, they finally reached their destination.
When Senior Sister Wen Yin’s voice suddenly came from the front, Yang An snapped out of his cultivation.
"Junior Brother, get ready. We’re here!"
"Okay!"
Yang An immediately exited his cultivation state and stood up.
He could clearly feel the Earth Worm beneath him begin to move diagonally upward. In just a few breaths, it burst through the soil, and his vision was suddenly filled with bright daylight.
Thankfully, he’d had a "light" on the whole time underground; otherwise, the sudden brightness would have taken him a while to recover from.
The two of them jumped off the Earth Worm’s body. Although he was on solid ground, Yang An still had the lingering illusion that he was being jostled around.
After they got off, the Earth Worm quickly burrowed back into the ground and vanished from sight.
"The Earth Worms can’t be away from the mother for too long, so after this is over, we’ll have to find another way back," Wen Yin explained.
Yang An nodded.
He had experienced it once and had no desire to do it a second time.
First, it was too bumpy.
Second, traveling through the dark, claustrophobic earth for more than three hours had been unsettling. It had even affected his cultivation, making it impossible to fully focus his mind.
At that moment, Yang An finally looked around. Senior Sister Wen Yin had said they had arrived, which must have meant they were at Yulan City, their destination.
But when Yang An looked around, all he saw were bushes taller than a person. In the distance were endless, connected mountain ranges, and he could even spot a dilapidated temple on a faraway peak.
He searched for a while but saw no sign of a city, nor even a single person.
This was clearly a desolate, uninhabited wilderness!
"Senior Sister, where are we? Where’s Yulan City? Why can’t I see it?"
he asked in confusion. But after several moments passed, Senior Sister Wen Yin didn’t answer him. Instead, she just stood there in a daze.
"Senior Sister...?"
After another moment, Wen Yin still didn’t respond. A bad feeling suddenly welled up in Yang An’s heart.
"Senior Sister... did we... go the wrong way?"
"Impossible! Absolutely impossible!"
