Chapter 198: Why did you do it?

In the end, Hua Tianshu thinly smiled as he spoke, "We got it."

"Eh?"

"You can go back," Hua Tianshu spoke.

Huo Feng looked to be extremely confused as he heard this, "I’m not going back without my junior martial sister."

Hua Tianshu nodded his head in understanding as he spoke, "Don’t worry, we’ll keep an eye out for her."

Huo Feng’s eyebrows creased together as he heard this and Hua Tianshu continued speaking.

"We’ll look for the river dragon and if we find your junior martial sister, we’ll return her back to you. There is no need for you to put yourself in danger."

"..." Huo Feng suddenly fell speechless as he heard this.

"You can go back now."

Huo Feng was extremely unsure and hesitant, however, at the same time, he also knew that Hua Tianshu was a man who kept his word, and hence, he decided to trust him.

"Then... I’ll be putting my trust in you, Elder Hua."

Hua Tianshu nodded his head and Huo Feng soon left.

When the man was gone, Jie Fu Lian raised an eyebrow as he side-glanced at Hua Tianshu and asked, "Do you believe in the rumor?"

"I don’t," Hua Tianshu replied without even needing to think about it, "But there is something else that interests me."

"Hmm?"

"Why would a river dragon live on top of a mountain?"

Jie Fu Lian frowned as he heard this question.

"It won’t unless it is badly injured or too young to defend itself."

Hua Tianshu nodded his head as he heard this answer, "That’s right. But do you think a river dragon would be able to survive on top of these mountains when it’s injured?"

Jie Fu Lian gulped as he heard this and shook his head.

Hua Tianshu smiled as he spoke, "The river dragon passed away."

"Then why are we going up to look for it?" Jie Fu Lian asked with a small frown.

Hua Tianshu didn’t give him an answer but Jie Fu Lian eventually remembered something and understood what the man was planning to do.

"I guess it would be worth a try," Jie Fu Lian sighed as he spoke and Hua Tianshu nodded his head as he agreed.

Together, the two went up the mountain in search of the river dragon’s remains. It wasn’t easy to find the creature and on their way, they came to face many types of wild beasts that wanted to eat them.

If it were anyone else, perhaps the wild beasts would have posed a fatal threat, however, since it was Jie Fu Lian and Hua Tianshu, no matter what attacked them, in the end, the result was the same.

In the end, they managed to find the river dragon, and just like Hua Tianshu had guessed, the river dragon was dead and only its carcass remained.

The girl that Huo Feng had mentioned was nowhere around and they didn’t find any traces of her on the way over.

Thinking that she had already died, they didn’t bother searching for her and focused on what they had come here to do.

Jie Fu Lian took out Changbo and cut open the dragon’s carcass and searched for a particular bone.

"Are you sure this would work?" Jie Fu Lian asked.

Hua Tianshu, "It’s an unproven myth but it’s worth a try."

When they finally pulled out the bone and got ready to leave, Hua Tianshu noticed something odd and stopped in his tracks.

"What is it?" Jie Fu Lian asked with a bit of worry.

"This river dragon doesn’t have a heart."

"Huh?"

Hua Tianshu frowned as he looked at the dragon’s open carcass and spoke, "It doesn’t have a heart."

"It was probably eaten by a wild animal," Jie Fu Lian spoke with a small sigh.

Hua Tianshu shook his head as he spoke, "No, the heart is the only thing that is missing. It almost seems as if the heart was ripped out from its chest."

Jie Fu Lian frowned as he heard this and took a closer look at the river dragon as he spoke, "That’s right. It looks like it was ripped out by a beast."

"It looks like it was ripped out by a demon," Hua Tianshu corrected him.

"Huh?"

"Look closely, doesn’t it seem somewhat familiar?"

Jie Fu Lian gulped as he heard this but refrained from giving an answer.

"It’s Heaven’s eye."

"You might be right," Jie Fu Lian sighed as he spoke, "But it doesn’t matter."

"Of course, it matters," Hua Tianshu argued, "We need to know what that man is planning."

Jie Fu Lian understood Hua Tianshu’s worry but did not share it.

"I don’t want to know what he is planning, We are no longer connected to him and it’s not like he’ll ever try to harm us." 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

Hua Tianshu gulped, "Jie Ming... I might be overthinking this but... Have you forgiven Heaven’s eye?"

"..." Jie Fu Lian did not give a response to that question.

"Jie Ming, at the end of the day, he was the one who started everything," Hua Tianshu firmly spoke as he reminded Jie Fu Lian of what had happened, "He killed someone and framed you. Don’t forget that."

Jie Fu Lian almost wanted to laugh as he heard this but all that came out was a long sigh, "TianTian, he already paid off his debt. There is nothing left for me to forgive."

"You know him, don’t you?" Hua Tianshu impulsively asked.

"..." Jie Fu Lian was too stunned by the question and didn’t react fast enough.

"That day... You were talking about the sword that Heaven’s eye was holding," Hua Tianshu frowned as he spoke, "You recognized it. You know who he is, don’t you?"

"I heard that a dragon’s heart is very good for healing heavy injuries," Jie Fu Lian immediately tried to change the topic.

Hua Tianshu felt a little disappointed to know that he was guessing right.

It seemed like Jie Fu Lian really did know who heaven’s eye was.

However, since he didn’t want to talk about it, Hua Tianshu never bothered him with the question again.

They headed back to the HuiXue sect and gave Hua Meifang the cure before feeding her the bone marrow soup that they had made from the river dragon’s bone.

The results were not immediate and it was estimated that it would take at least a few weeks for the results to show.

It was already Spring and Bai YiJun had sent them a special invite to the osmanthus festival held at Xiujiang so while they waited for Hua Meifang to recover, they decided to take a trip to Xiujiang.

When they met Bai YiJun, like always, the man was still pretending to be a mad cripple in front of others.

Bai YiJun was already well aware of the relationship between Hua Tianshu and Jie Fu Lian, however, he was yet to accept it.

Like always, when he met Hua Tianshu, the only thing he could do was glare and throw insults at the man.

However, Hua Tianshu was a lot calmer this time and no matter how much Bai Yijun provoked him, he remained unfazed.

"This place looks really lively during this time of the year," Jie Fu Lian happily commented as he looked out the window, "This brings back memories. I used to come here every year with Senior Martial Sister Yin Ru."

"We take pride in our osmanthus festival," Bai YiJun confidently commented, "Once you eat the osmanthus cakes and wines we sell, you’ll know what it truly means to taste heavenly food."

Jie Fu Lian enthusiastically bobbed his head up and down as he agreed.

"Now that you are talking about it, I’m craving some. TianTian, can you go down and buy me some osmanthus cakes?"

Hua Tianshu immediately nodded his head and went to buy the osmanthus cakes.

When he left the place, Bai YiJun smiled as he asked, "What conversation could have been so important that you needed to send him away?"

"Bai YiJun, we used to be very close."

Bai YiJun nodded his head with a chuckle as he heard this, "We used to be close but you still chose Hua Tianshu over me."

"It wasn’t a competition," Jie Fu Lian shook his head with a sigh as he spoke.

"That’s right, it wasn’t a competition ’cause since the beginning itself, you only had eyes for him, didn’t you? Now that I think about it, I feel quite pathetic. I never even stood a chance."

"Bai YiJun, I really want to ask you this," Jie Fu Lian thinly smiled as he questioned, "Why did you do it?"

"Huh?" Bai Yijun raised an eyebrow, feeling confused as he asked, "What do you mean?"

The smile on Jie Fu Lian’s face did not falter as he questioned, "Why did you frame me? Heaven’s eye...?"

"..." Bai YiJun’s mind immediately went blank and his body stiffened up.

"Did you think I’d never find out?"

Bai YiJun looked down at the floor, feeling his own guilt weigh him down as he heard Jie Fu Lian’s question.

"Bai YiJun, tell me," Jie Fu Lian pressed on, "Why did you do it?"
