Chapter 85

In the far north, a dozen or so dark silhouettes suddenly appeared on a vast snow-covered field. Each one was wearing a black cloak. They had strong figures and their movements were agile. The one leading the way was imposing and handsome.

It was the Demon King’s party.

“The barrier has appeared!” The scout, who had been ahead of them, flew over to the Demon King and knelt on one knee. He said in a deep voice, “Your Highness, it’s just ahead.”

Looking up, he could see a majestic mountain range at the other end of the snow-covered field with clouds rolling over the misty peaks. It looked like a scene straight out of a fairytale.

A smile appeared on the Demon King’s previously expressionless face and a light flashed in his eyes. “So he wasn’t lying. Let’s go.”

The party teleported to the base of the mountain range.

Close up, the Tianshan mountains were towering, majestic and indomitable. The wind at the foot of the mountains was bitterly cold and whistled as it battered everyone’s faces with snowflakes. Before long, everyone was ice-cold.

While ordinary people wouldn’t be able to see it, the Demon King and the others saw a flickering visible barrier halfway up the mountain. Spiritual energy fluctuated like waves on the ocean, creating a sort of astral wind, and swirling snow battered anything that approached the Tianshan mountains.

The Demon King could sense the deep and resounding power in the barrier and its warning.

For someone to have created a barrier as thick with spiritual energy as this one around the Tianshan mountain range, there had to be some secret they were desperate to hide.

Given this, the Demon King was even more convinced that there had to be a Boundary Stone here.

He was a bit excited and as soon as he got excited, he thought of the person who’d told him about the Boundary Stone.

Unfortunately, Bai Yang wasn’t there so the Demon King couldn’t share his excitement. He wanted to see his beloved and took out the Mermaid’s Pearl, pouring spiritual energy into it.

When he looked, something wasn’t right.

Xie Zetian seemed to be in a room healing someone.

The Demon King frowned and poured his magic into the Mermaid’s Pearl again, carefully watching for why Xie Zetian was healing someone.

After a moment, he could clearly see the features of the person on the bed. He was a handsome youth with long upward brows, a high nose bridge and a pale complexion. He appeared to be human.

He’d never seen this person before.

The Demon King’s expression froze. He thought back to when Xie Zetian didn’t agree to come with him to Tianshan. He had said that he would stay in Anning Village when he’d actually been planning to sneak off somewhere. The Demon King suspected that… he had been deliberately avoiding him so he could secretly meet the man lying on the bed.

After coming to this conclusion, the Demon King’s expression shifted.

Right now, he really wanted to know… who was that guy?

When did Xie Zetian have such an intimate relationship with a human?

Just then, Xie Zetian seemed to have finished healing and withdrew his hand. The man on the bed suddenly opened his eyes and called out, “Don’t go!”

Xie Zetian seemed startled. He turned and covered his face.

The man on the bed closed his eyes again.

After a while, Xie Zetian turned around again and quietly went up to the bed. Before leaving he pulled the covers over the man.

…he’s never pulled the covers over me!

The Demon King instantly grew angry. He completely forgot that each time he went to bed, he would do his lover to death. Since he could hardly move, how could he pull the covers over him?

But he didn’t care. He would remember this.

Xie Zetian secretly saw another man, was in another’s bed, and even covered him with a blanket!

Each act was a crime.

“Your Highness?” The voice of his subordinate brought the Demon King back to the situation at hand.

He stopped the flow of his spiritual energy into the Mermaid’s Pearl, cutting his connection to Xie Zetian.

The Demon King glared at the person who had interrupted him and coldly said, “What is it?”

The poor, black-robed underling saw his monarch’s callous expression and couldn’t figure out what he’d done wrong. Trembling with fear, he said, “The b- barrier won’t open….”

“Useless!” With a flick of his sleeve, the Demon King slapped the black-robed underling who fell to the ground and rolled over twice. Then he took two steps towards Tianshan.

Even though all he really wanted to do was hurry back and catch Xie Zetian and demand an explanation, he was already at Tianshan. This was important. No matter what, he had to investigate before heading back.

No one could stop him!

The Demon King walked forward, no longer restraining his imposing aura which burst out in a violent wave. The people in black robes quickly retreated to avoid it.

The dozen or so people exchanged meaningful glances.

“His Highness is angry.”

“Why is he suddenly angry?”

“Because the barrier isn’t opening?”

“I don’t know.”

His anger was channeled into power and with a dark expression, he performed several complicated hand signs. His oppressive aura grew rapidly.

The dozen or so black-robed underlings saw something was wrong and fled as fast as they could. Faster than rabbits, they ran and hid in whatever nook or cranny they could find.

Reaching a safe spot, they let out a breath and looked up towards the Demon King.

The barrier seemed to have sensed the threat and a black cloud appeared overhead. The icy wind suddenly grew stronger, accompanied by the sound of a mournful scream.

The Demon King’s demonic aura had already revealed itself, his figure enveloped in a black demonic energy.

When he finished his hand signals, he thrust his hands forward, palms facing outward.

The barrier let out a buzzing sound. The icy wind coalesced into the shape of an ice pick and flew down fast as lightning towards the Demon King. At the same time, some more ice and snow formed a sort of umbrella and protected the upper part of Tianshan.

The Demon King’s surrounding demonic energy converged and condensed, stopping the ice pick’s attack. The demonic energy in his hand flew towards the barrier like a sword, splitting the icy wind umbrella and hitting the transparent barrier.

Like glass, the barrier cracked and with a crashing sound it broke apart.

“Go!”

The Demon King gave his order, and everyone followed him at top speed towards Tianshan.

The Demon King barreled into Tianshan like a bull. As he wreaked unbridled destruction, he used the Mermaid’s Pearl to watch Bai Yang. On his part, Bai Yang was calmly hiding in Phoenix City. Every day, he looked for an opportunity to enter the City Lord’s residence and check on Zhou Ying’s illness.

As soon as the Demon King looked, he would get angry and so his anger just kept rising.

It rose especially when he found out that the person Bai Yang had saved was the Son of Destiny, Zhou Ying. He became so angry that he almost abandoned everything to return home and settle things with him!

While he was angry, he also felt an indescribable sense of crisis. In the past, Xie Zetian had been loose with his affection and had kept a lot of beautiful people in his harem. However, the Demon King hadn’t taken it to heart and simply thought of it as a hobby Xie Zetian had had before he got together with him, so there had been no need to criticize him. Now, it was clear that while Xie Zetian had gotten rid of his harem, he’d also secretly kept a wild human man in the Mortal Realm. Moreover, Xie Zetian was very devoted to this other man.

This person definitely had a place in Xie Zetian’s heart.

The Demon King was furious and felt cheated on.

Fortunately, he was still rational. He didn’t immediately return home. Rather, he suppressed his anger and continued his mission. In the end, he found the Boundary Stone.

In that moment, he also triggered the guard array. From underground, corpses emerged and desperately fought to guard the Boundary Stone. Unfortunately, they were easily beaten by the frustrated Demon King and vanished after turning to dust.

Seeing the Boundary Stone, the Demon King’s anger slightly lessened. At least Xie Zetian hadn’t lied and deliberately tricked him into going up north on a wild goose chase. His information had been correct. He’d done him a great service in helping him find the location of another Boundary Stone.

Then he thought again. Xie Zetian already knew of this information and had only recently told him of it. It must be because he knew that the Demon King wanted to kill Zhou Ying, so he informed him of the Boundary Stone’s location to lure him away. At this thought, the Demon King hatefully gritted his teeth.

That wild man was that important?

When did they hook up?

Even though he has me, he actually hooked up with another person!

He secretly kept a lover!

That bastard!

The Demon King’s anger swelled into a ball, about to explode.

It was all he could think about. After analyzing all of Xie Zetian’s behavior from start to finish, he came to the erroneous conclusion that Xie Zetian was a charming flirt. While he was with the Demon King, he was also hooking up with others and living a Casanova lifestyle juggling several lovers.

Maybe he hadn’t done him enough if he still had the energy to seek out others.

The Demon King’s mood boiled over. He gritted his teeth and, with one stomp, crushed the Boundary Stone.

While his anger erupted, Bai Yang was oblivious. He still had the beautiful dream of returning to the inn quietly after finishing up as if nothing had happened.

Time flew until it was the fourth day. The City Lord and Lou Jianfeng had people scour every inch of the city, but they never found the severely injured Zhou Ying. They still didn’t know that the person they searched for was right under their noses.

With no other choice, and under public pressure, Phoenix City’s City Lord took down the barrier and let people enter freely.

The opportunity for Zhou Ying to leave was here.

On the third day, Bai Yang had spent the whole time at the City Lord’s residence. He’d hid, lying motionless on a roof beam. He intended to watch how the male lead and Feng Ming would act.

At night, Feng Ming didn’t sleep. She stayed in the room and paced. From time to time, she’d raise her head and look out the window. Under Bai Yang’s tender care, the protagonist had recovered. Even though his complexion was still as pale as before, he could move around by himself. He got out of bed, sat down in a chair, and calmly waited.

The two people changed into the clothing of a servant of the City Lord’s residence. They wore unobtrusive grey clothes and small caps.

The atmosphere was heavy. They were waiting quietly for an opportunity. No one spoke.

The color of the sky became brighter and brighter. When the sky took on the color of dawn, the distant bell sounded. A new day had begun. Feng Ming immediately stood up, pushed the door open, went out and looked up at the sky.

Bai Yang used a teleportation spell to change places and quietly move to the roof.

A golden line appeared in the middle of the dark blue sky. It was a sign that the sun was about to rise. Ripple like fluctuations appeared in the sky above the city, and immediately spread over the whole city. The ripples appeared again and again, and then the barrier over the city started to melt, quickly turning into particles and dissipating.

Everything was quiet.

Feng Ming had a pleasantly surprised expression on her face. She promptly entered the room and, lowering her voice, said, “The barrier has already been undone. Let’s leave.”

The protagonist nodded and stood up.

Feng Ming walked over to his side and supported him by the arm. Since the majority of people in the City Lord’s residence were still asleep, they seized the opportunity to secretly leave the room and enter the inner courtyard.

This was a bold move, but they had no other choice. If they waited until dawn, everyone would wake up and it would be difficult to leave the City Lord’s residence.
