The Demon Among The Knights-Chapter 21: The Clash of Powers
The battlefield had become a symphony of chaos. The clanging of swords, the sharp cries of knights, and the guttural growls of demons merged into a deafening roar. Blood soaked the scorched earth, turning it into a slippery mire of carnage and despair. Yet, amidst the chaos, the knights pressed forward, their determination burning brighter than the flames that flickered in the distance.
The sky above mirrored the chaos below, streaked with crimson and black as demonic energy clashed with divine blessings. Ash floated like snow, the air thick with sulfur and the tang of iron. Every corner of the battlefield screamed of war, yet at its center stood one figure, untouched and resolute.
Brianna, her golden hair streaked with dirt and blood, stood tall amidst the chaos. Her eyes were focused, calculating. Around her, a group of demons snarled, their jagged teeth dripping with ichor, their claws scraping the ground as they prepared to lunge.
Her grip tightened on the hilt of her blade, its steel gleaming faintly with divine energy. She inhaled deeply, steadying herself against the storm of chaos. "I’m going to take them out," she whispered to herself, her voice calm yet resolute.
Raising her sword high, she called out, her voice carrying over the battlefield like a bell ringing in a cathedral:
"God of Time, grant me your boon: Total Time Stop!"
A radiant golden light enveloped the area. The air shimmered as if reality itself had bent to her will. Suddenly, everything froze. The world became utterly silent. Demons that had been mid-lunge now hung in the air, their grotesque forms frozen like statues. The dust and ash that had been swirling in the wind came to an eerie halt. Even the faintest details—the fluttering wings of a bird overhead, the ripples of energy in the air—were suspended in perfect stillness.
Brianna exhaled slowly, feeling the divine energy coursing through her veins. "Time belongs to me now," she said softly, stepping forward with purpose.
She walked through the frozen tableau, her movements deliberate. Her blade glinted as she swung it once, twice, thrice—each strike precise, each aimed directly at the demons’ hearts. Their grotesque faces were frozen in snarls of rage, unaware of the impending doom.
Finally, she sheathed her sword and stood behind the group of demons. Her lips curled into a faint smile as she said, "Now, I bring forth pain."
The golden light dissipated in an instant. Time resumed its flow.
At once, the demons’ bodies reacted. Slashes appeared across their chests as if carved by an invisible force, each wound precise and deadly. Black ichor sprayed from their gaping wounds as their hearts were cleaved in two. One by one, they collapsed to the ground, their lifeless forms crumpling in heaps.
Brianna stood among the fallen, her breathing steady as she surveyed her work. Her divine energy shimmered faintly before fading into the air.
From nearby, a voice called out, cutting through the din of battle. "Brianna!"
She turned to see Daniel, his twin swords gleaming as he cut through another wave of Crawlers with practiced ease. His dark hair was damp with sweat, his face set with fierce determination. Yet, as he approached, his expression softened.
"Brianna," he said again, his tone less urgent this time. "There was no need for you to push yourself. I could’ve protected them." 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
Brianna opened her mouth to reply, but her sharp eyes caught movement behind Daniel—a swarm of demons rushing toward him, their claws extended and their snarls echoing like thunder.
"Daniel, look out!" she shouted, her voice sharp with urgency.
But before she could move, the air around them grew thick and hazy. A dense mist rolled in, its tendrils curling around the demons like ghostly fingers. The demons stumbled, their snarls turning into confused growls as they lost sight of their target.
A deep, commanding voice broke through the fog, filled with authority and cold menace.
"God of Matter, Gaseous State: Foggy Mist. You will die here."
The mist thickened, turning into a nearly impenetrable veil. The demons flailed uselessly, their claws swiping at nothing as they stumbled blindly through the haze.
Daniel stepped forward, his twin swords glinting in the muted light. His voice rang out again, sharp and commanding:
"Liquid State: Water Whip."
From the mist, tendrils of water formed, snaking through the air with deadly precision. The whips of water lashed out, wrapping tightly around the demons’ limbs and torsos. The creatures struggled, their roars of frustration growing louder as the whips tightened, holding them in place.
Daniel’s eyes gleamed with a dangerous light as he raised his swords. "Solidify," he commanded.
In an instant, the water turned to ice, trapping the demons in unyielding bonds. Their movements ceased, their grotesque forms frozen in twisted poses of fear and rage.
With a single leap, Daniel was among them, his swords flashing in a deadly arc. The ice shattered as his blades sliced through flesh and bone. The demons screamed in agony, their blood spraying in violent bursts, painting the misty air with streaks of black.
As the last demon fell, Daniel stood amidst the carnage, his breathing steady. His face was splattered with blood, but his expression remained calm as he turned to Brianna.
"See?" he said with a faint smile, his voice almost playful despite the scene of destruction around him. "I told you I’d protect you."
Brianna sighed, shaking her head with a small smile of her own. "You’re impossible, Daniel," she said, though her tone was affectionate.
Before either of them could speak again, a loud whoosh broke through the battlefield noise. Both turned their gazes upward just in time to see a figure falling from the sky, hurtling toward the ground like a meteor.
It was Luci.
His chains whipped through the air as he fell, his body limp yet oddly controlled, as if he had thrown himself from the heavens with purpose.
On the ground below, Vic and Mary were already watching the sky. Vic, the frog-like humanoid, tilted his head as his wide, bulbous eyes focused on the falling figure. Beside him, Mary, her delicate fairy wings glowing faintly, gasped.
"Isn’t that... Captain Luci?" she said, her voice filled with both shock and curiosity.
Vic stretched out his long, muscular tongue with precision and speed, the slimy appendage wrapping around Luci’s body mid-air. The force of the stretch slowed Luci’s descent, allowing him to land gently on the ground.
Luci’s thoughts churned as he lay still for a moment, letting the surreal events sink in. I had to throw myself like this, he thought, annoyed. Now those idiots will think they’re the ones who sent me flying with their gravity powers. Whatever. Let them believe it.
Mary fluttered closer, her wings buzzing softly as she hovered above him. "Are you okay?" she asked, her voice gentle but concerned.
Luci opened one eye, his expression a mix of irritation and confusion. Huh, this fairy... And why the hell is there a tongue wrapped around my body?
Vic, retracting his tongue with a wet snap, croaked loudly. "He’s fine. Tougher than he looks," he said, his deep voice rumbling with a mix of humor and respect.
Luci sighed heavily as he sat up, brushing dirt off his chains. "Thanks, I guess," he muttered, though his tone was far from grateful.
