Chapter 74: Kingdom Soldiers Invasion

Not only Agares, but the newly arrived adventurer party also began to prepare for battle.

They showed no fear toward Agares—after all, he was alone, and they were five.

Leon and his party stood in the middle, between the two sides.

He stood firm, trying to mediate the conflict. There was no need to fight to solve this.

"Agares," Leon called out, drawing Agares’s attention.

"I’ve been in the dungeon for two years. I don’t know what happened to you or why Erika acted so recklessly. I can’t make a decision on this alone."

"But if what you said about Erika is true, then as her brother, I thank you."

"However, if what they said about your crimes is true... then we will take our own stance."

"Your own stance?"

Leon took a deep breath and slowly exhaled. He glanced at his friends—Nathan, Bernard, and Cassandra were still recovering.

Anna didn’t want to fight someone who had saved them. Doing so would feel like betraying the one who helped them.

It would be ungrateful.

"We’ll leave. We’ll act like we never saw you." freewebnøvel.coɱ

Agares smiled—relieved. He thought that was the best decision they could have made.

If they couldn’t help him, then pretending they never met was the next best thing.

"Very well. Then I won’t kill you."

"Go. Now!"

Leon nodded. He activated a teleport token and brought his party out of the dungeon. A bright blue light enveloped them—signaling the system’s teleportation.

Within seconds, Leon and his party vanished from the dungeon hallway.

This left only Agares and the adventurer party who wanted to capture him.

"Now... let’s fight!"

Elsewhere, Leon and his team arrived at Floor 55, right in front of the crystal stone in Midgard City.

But what they saw shocked them. The once calm and peaceful city now looked like a concentration camp.

Kingdom soldiers patrolled the area, standing guard and interrogating civilians. All of it was about one man—Agares.

"Question everyone! Find out which floor that saber monster is heading to!"

Leon spotted the commander shouting orders at the center of the city. Arnold had arrived using a teleport token he got from another adventurer.

They had come one group at a time, bringing five people at once. It had taken all day, and now Midgard was no longer the same city.

"I didn’t expect to find a city like this inside the dungeon—where humans live peacefully with demonkin!"

"Tch!"

"Disgusting," Arnold sneered, showing clear discrimination.

They questioned the humans politely, but when it came to the other races, the soldiers hurled insults and shouted without hesitation.

Thankfully, they hadn’t resorted to physical violence—yet.

"Answer me, you filthy race! Where’s Agares?!" shouted a soldier at Mel.

"I don’t know!"

"You’re conspiring with him, aren’t you?!"

SLAP!

The soldier lost his temper and slapped Mel hard, knocking her to the ground. Goro rushed to help her and moved her away from the soldier.

"LISTEN UP!"

"You lowly races! If you don’t speak up about Agares, You will be stabbed with a scorching iron!"

"Do you understand?!" Arnold roared.

Chaos spread. Leon hadn’t expected the military’s presence to make things this bad. If left unchecked, the entire city and its people would be destroyed.

He couldn’t let that happen—but he was still stuck in line for questioning. Anna leaned in and whispered for guidance.

"Tell them we tracked Agares to Floor 56," Leon whispered.

"Got it."

"Next!" barked the soldier.

"You—adventurer party. Have you seen this man?" the soldier asked, raising a wanted poster with a sketch of Agares’s face.

Leon narrowed his eyes, furrowed his brows, and rubbed his chin—acting as if he were thinking hard.

"I think I saw him about two months ago. He was on Floor 56."

"Floor 56? Are you sure?" the soldier asked.

"I’m the son of a noble family. Loyal to the Empire and the Kingdom. Why would I lie?"

"What’s your name?"

"Leon. Leon Thorn."

"Thorn? As in Noble Thorn?"

Leon nodded. Realizing the man before him wasn’t some commoner, the soldier immediately believed him and let them pass. Leon’s party gave similar answers, reinforcing the story.

They all managed to escape the soldiers’ suspicion. But for the non-human residents of the city, the intimidation only grew worse.

A mother trembled in fear. A child cried. A father clenched his fists in anger. The elderly looked on with hopeless eyes. They didn’t even know who Agares was.

"Liar!"

One soldier grabbed a heated iron rod, intending to press it against the face of a young girl—barely ten years old. Leon saw it and ran toward them.

He grabbed the soldier’s hand and forcefully threw him back. Leon had saved the girl, but hatred began to grow in the hearts of the non-human citizens.

’This city will never be the same again,’ Leon thought.

"YOU! Who are you?! Are you one of Agares’s men?!" shouted another soldier angrily.

"I live in this city—and you’re outsiders. Just because you’re military doesn’t give you the right to act however you please!" Leon snapped.

Arnold heard the commotion and turned. He saw a man and his party protecting the non-human citizens. Disgusting!

To Arnold, humans were superior. They should dominate, not cooperate or live alongside these lesser beings.

"Who are you?" Arnold asked as he approached.

"Leon. Leon Thorn."

"Thorn? Son of Casper Thorn?"

"Why are you interfering with the investigation?" Arnold demanded.

"I’m not. I’m just stopping your man from hurting civilians."

"They don’t know anything about the person you’re looking for. Why are you still forcing them?!"

Arnold said nothing. He drew his sword, ready to fight Leon if needed.

He wasn’t afraid of punishment from the King. His status was higher than that of Noble Thorn.

That made Arnold all the more confident.

"If you keep getting in the way, I’ll consider you an ally of Agares!" Arnold threatened.

"I don’t even know Agares. Besides, you’re in the wrong city to give orders."

"We’re all strong people here. Without teleport tokens, you wouldn’t even survive on Floor 50!"

"Are you threatening me?!" Arnold roared.

Leon remained silent. He didn’t know who Arnold was or what his status was. But training in the academy and fighting real monsters in the dungeon were two completely different things.

The difference in power between them was clear.

As the two stood at the brink of a battle, a soft voice echoed from behind Arnold.

A beautiful woman in a long violet gown appeared in the city square—right where Arnold and Leon were about to clash.

"Something has changed in this city... The kingdom soldiers have come in secret."

Everyone turned their eyes to the elegant, graceful woman with long black wavy hair.

She floated gently, surrounded by blue magic particles. Now, she stood right beside Leon.

"Leon."

"Lady Milenia."

Milenia looked forward. Her glowing blue eyes sparkled, and icy flowers bloomed with every step she took toward Arnold. Arnold flinched—he could feel the overwhelming aura from her.

"I’ve heard everything. Agares has gone deeper into the dungeon, and no one knows when he’ll return," Milenia said to Arnold.

"What floor?"

"I don’t know. But you could start with Floor 56."

"Impossible!"

"My soldiers can’t handle the monsters on that floor!"

"Then why did you come here and start ruling?!" Milenia snapped.

"Most of the adventurers here have already conquered Floor 56. That means they’re stronger than your soldiers."

Milenia summoned an ice sword and swung it to the side, sending a flurry of ice flowers that instantly froze hundreds of kingdom soldiers.

Arnold was stunned—both shocked and impressed.

"Return to your lands and wait for Agares there. He’ll come out of this dungeon eventually," Milenia declared.

"When?"

"No one knows."
