Chapter 66: Night with Milenia

Midnight.

City of Midgard.

Agares sat alone in the living room of his house. Aoi had long fallen asleep in her own bed, undisturbed by anything. Her bed was located in Agares’s room.

Even so, Agares showed no signs of drowsiness. He glanced upward at the wall clock. It was 1 AM. The city had grown silent.

"Fox race... where should I even begin to find them?"

"The last thing I remember about the Kitsune is that the Clovis Kingdom invaded their lands."

"Sigh"

"It’s unlikely any of them are still in this city."

His mind kept racing for a way to find them. This city was made up of many different races—humans and demonkind had worked together to build a place that was suitable for all.

"Maybe Goro knows something about someone from the fox race."

Agares stood up and headed for the door. Without waking Aoi, he quietly left his home and made his way back to Goro’s tavern.

The tavern was a gathering place for all sorts of people who wanted to relax and enjoy a drink. As the tavern’s owner, Goro had met countless people and remembered many of them.

After years of running the place, it was likely he’d seen at least one foxfolk living in the city. That was why Agares chose to visit him.

As expected, the city streets were deserted. Everyone was asleep in their homes, doors shut tight, merchants closed.

Only Goro’s tavern remained lit and open to serve the late-night crowd.

The tavern doors creaked open—but Goro wasn’t behind the bar. Instead, it was a young woman with the same red-toned skin. She was of the same race as Goro.

"Who are you?" asked Agares.

"Welcome. If you don’t know me, then you must not come here often."

"I’m Mel, Goro’s daughter," she said, her short black hair brushing her shoulders.

"Oh. Where’s Goro?"

"He’s resting. I’ll be the one serving you tonight."

Mel grabbed a bottle of beer and poured it into a wooden mug in front of her. Agares stepped up to the bar and accepted the drink.

He had already downed an entire bottle of beer earlier that afternoon when he met Milenia. But what was one more mug?

What caught Agares’s attention was the quiet situations inside the tavern. Tonight, he was the only customer. Not a person was there. It confused him.

"I thought there’d be at least someone spending the night here."

"Anyone who falls asleep gets kicked out!" Mel declared firmly.

"That’s disappointing."

"How long have you lived in this city?" she asked.

"Since I was born. I’m 21, so... 21 years."

"Do you know anything about the fox race?"

"The fox race?"

Mel paused, then tilted her head and tapped her chin, clearly trying to remember something. Agares watched her closely while sipping his beer.

"I think I once saw a human adventurer come through here with their party. One of them was a foxfolk."

"What? An adventuring party?"

"Yeah. But that was three years ago. I have no idea where they are now."

’Three years ago, huh? It’s unlikely they’re still alive.’ frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

"Do you remember the name of their party leader?"

The woman paused again, thinking hard. But one should never underestimate a demonkin’s memory.

They possessed far stronger memory retention than humans—both because of their long lifespans and the sheer capacity of their brains.

"His name was Revan!"

"Yeah, the leader’s name was definitely Revan."

Agares cleared his throat and finished the drink in one quick gulp. He didn’t ask Mel for a refill.

"Have you seen him since?"

"Never."

"I see."

"Eh? You’re already done?" Mel blinked in surprise.

He placed a single monster core on the counter. He wasn’t here to drink or relax—just to gather information.

"That’s all I needed."

"See you."

Agares walked out of the tavern. Now, his target was Revan. There was no point in bothering Goro while he was resting. But maybe someone else in the city could help.

"I can’t believe I’m going to Milenia’s house. She’s definitely going to think I’m here to sleep with her."

"That woman... I haven’t liked her since the moment we met."

He walked toward her place with confident strides, keeping his eyes on the surrounding area. Thankfully, nothing suspicious caught his eye.

From the street, he spotted a medium-sized two-story home—Milenia’s residence. Two guards stood in front of the gate, clearly hired for her personal guard.

"Hold it! Who are you?" one of them ordered, blocking Agares’s approach.

"I’m here to see Milenia. Can you let me in?"

"Did you make an appointment?"

"What?"

"Let him in," came Milenia’s voice from the balcony above.

She stood there wearing only a revealing nightgown, her cleavage openly visible.

The two gate guards turned and nodded at her command. The gate opened, and Agares stepped through.

"Did you come here to make me weak in the knees?" Milenia teased, partially exposing one of her beautiful breasts.

Agares flushed red and quickly averted his gaze, causing Milenia to giggle at his awkwardness. She tied her gown more securely and headed back inside.

"Come in. Wait for me in the lounge."

He nodded, took a deep breath, and stepped forward. The front door opened to reveal an elegant, majestic decorated interior. Everything was expensive, refined, and tidy.

"A bit fancier than my place," Agares muttered.

After five minutes, a stunning woman descended the staircase in a graceful stride, still wearing her silky nightgown.

Agares turned and momentarily lost his focus—her beauty was captivating.

But he had to stay sharp. He would not be swayed by the allure of a woman who had let other men touch her. He wouldn’t sleep with someone like that.

"Welcome to my home," Milenia said.

"Take a seat. You must be tired of Goro’s beer, right?"

With a snap of her fingers, she brought up a bottle of red wine and two crystal glasses. Their conversation needed wine—to ease the tension and soften the mood.

"How’s your search for the materials?" she asked.

"I’m still missing the Whispering Leaf of Shrine."

"So, you got the Soulbound Crystal Core from Lo?" she asked. Agares nodded.

"I see. Then... Did you come here to buy that material from me?"

"You have it?"

Milenia smiled sweetly at him. She drew an ’S’ in the air to summon her personal system. A floating panel appeared as she opened her inventory.

Agares could clearly see hundreds of items stored in her stash. If she sold them, she could easily become one of the richest people in the city.

When she found the item, she tapped it and held it in her hand. Holding it out to Agares, she showed him the shimmering green leaf.

From his system vision, Agares confirmed—it was indeed the Whispering Leaf of Shrine. He was stunned that Milenia had possessed the item all along.

"How much? I’ll buy it."

"I don’t need money. I have more than enough."

"Then what?" Agares asked.

Milenia fell silent, checking him from head to toe. There was something about Agares that stirred her curiosity—but she wasn’t sure whether he’d agree to her wish.

"You should know what I want, Agares."

He swallowed hard. The silence of midnight closed in. He had no idea what would happen next, but from Milenia’s gaze, it was obvious what she was after—his body.

"Do we really have to do this?"

"You don’t have a choice, Agares."
