Chapter 52: Silva and Her Searching Quest

"You should get some rest. The journey from the Red Line to the Capital must’ve been exhausting," said Mireola, the Head of the Magic Hall.

"Alright, Master," Silva replied.

One by one, they walked away from the front courtyard of the Imperial Palace. Silva left with Nana, a priest and also her former classmate.

The four heroes chosen for the Celestial Vanguard were Jonathan, Delvin, Silva, and Nana. The others were Quillen, the assassin, and Nolan, the archer.

Silva occasionally glanced back at the palace. Lately, Jonathan seemed to be getting along well with the royal family.

No one minded that he was getting close to Princess Karina —mainly because Jonathan held the title of Lux Hero.

"This trip really wore me out. I just want to soak in a nice warm bath," Nana said. She wore a white robe and hat, holding a priest’s staff — different from a mage’s staff.

"What about you, Silva?" Nana asked, turning to her.

Silva instinctively looked back at her and smiled with a nod. The fatigue in their bodies could only be eased by relaxing. Silva said she’d head home and enjoy a warm bath there too.

After leaving the Imperial Palace, Silva and Nana went their separate ways. Nana went to the priest’s residential complex in the city, while Silva returned to her own home in the city center — separate from the mage quarters.

The five heads of the knight halls entered the palace, leaving Mireola alone in the courtyard. The Head of the Priest Hall glanced back, clearly noticing Mireola was still staring in the direction Silva had gone.

"Is something wrong, Head Mireola?" asked Anastasia, the Priest Hall’s Head.

Mireola snapped out of her thoughts, turned, and smiled warmly. She gently patted Anastasia’s arm and said she had urgent business with Silva.

"Is this about appointing her as a Grand Elder of Solaris Magic Academy?" Anastasia asked.

"You could say that."

"I’ll be off, then."

Mireola activated her flight magic and lifted off, leaving the courtyard behind and flying away, leaving Anastasia alone.

Even though they were friends, Anastasia couldn’t interfere too much. As the current Head of the Priest Hall, there were strict rules about not meddling with the affairs of other halls.

Anastasia turned and went into the palace. Elsewhere, Silva arrived at her residence and was welcomed by her maids.

Her spacious and grand home required many personal servants — most of whom were mage-knights who wanted to be close to Silva.

Besides the salary, they also had the chance to train with Silva and grow stronger. Many mages applied to serve in her household, but Silva was selective and chose them with care.

"Will you be taking a bath right away, Lady Silva?" one of the maids asked, taking her mage robe and staff.

Silva paused, then smiled at her. She asked her to prepare a bath filled with her favorite flowers. She’d soak in it after resting in her room for a bit.

The maid nodded and walked off into the house to inform the others. Silva walked up the stairs to the second floor and entered her room.

Out of all the rooms in the house, Silva’s room was the only one no one else was allowed to enter.

She stepped inside and locked the door. Then, she made her way into a secret chamber hidden behind a bookshelf. The room was filled with notes and information about one person.

Silva picked up a piece of paper and scribbled something: S-Level Dungeon.

She pinned it on a wall map — right in the territory of the Caer Vireth Kingdom.

That’s right. This secret room was where Silva tracked the whereabouts of Agares, her friend — and the man she had feelings for.

’S-level dungeons are rare. Only a handful exist across the Grand Empire,’ Silva thought.

’If Caer Vireth has started to move and take control of the situation, there’s a good chance the dungeon is in their territory.’

Aside from the records about Agares, the room also held piles of books and scrolls related to dark-element magic. One shocking discovery Silva had made was this:

All humans possess dark energy.

"When humans kill each other, Dark Essence surfaces. It’s the raw form of dark energy that exists in everyone."

"It’s not just Agares — I, Jonathan, even the Emperor himself have dark energy inside us."

"But because dominant elemental affinity masks it, the dark energy is hard to detect. Mages in the past concluded that humans simply didn’t have it."

"Purification only works on those cursed or infected by darkness. It doesn’t work the same on someone with a natural dark affinity."

"In fact, purification would kill them."

"Damn it!"

Silva slammed her hand on the wooden table in front of her, venting her frustration.

She still couldn’t figure out how to help Agares — not even a way to remove the dark energy inside his body.

"What am I supposed to do for him?" Silva muttered in despair.

After a long time spent thinking and reflecting, she still couldn’t come up with a solid solution for Agares’ condition.

She shook her head, on the verge of giving up — but Agares was out there, risking his life.

And her? His close friend? She couldn’t even do a single thing to help.

"I need more information about this."

KNOCK!

Silva quickly turned her head at the sound of knocking. She stepped outside her secret room and spoke without opening the door.

One of the maids informed her that the flower bath was ready.

Silva let out a sigh and replied clearly that she’d be heading there after changing clothes.

"I guess I should give my mind a little break," she whispered.

She took off her clothes one by one and put on a bathrobe over a set of elegant fabric underclothes. Once ready, she left her room and walked to the bathing area on the first floor.

When Silva arrived, the maids quietly left the room to give her some privacy. She took off her robe and entered the bath, still wearing her underclothes.

The wide bath was filled with warm water, its surface scattered with fragrant flower petals. Silva fully immersed herself and truly enjoyed the moment.

Ten minutes later, there was another knock, followed by a voice from a maid.

She said that Head Mage Mireola had arrived — and was asking to join Silva in the bath.

Silva smiled and welcomed her master to come in.

The bathhouse door opened, revealing Mireola in her mage robe, still holding her staff. Silva stood up in the water and respectfully bowed to her master.

"Looks like you went straight to relaxing after returning from the Red Line, Silva?"

"The trip to the Red Line was so exhausting. I just needed to loosen up my stiff legs," Silva replied.

They bathed together after Mireola changed her clothes. The two of them chatted a lot, from lighthearted talk to more serious matters.

"You’re still trying to find your close friend, aren’t you? I can help if you’d like," Mireola offered.

Silva didn’t mention the name of her friend, but she did admit that she was indeed searching for him. As for Mireola’s offer, Silva gently turned it down.

"It’s alright, Master. You already have enough responsibilities with the Mage Hall. I’ll handle this myself."

"I’ve already asked the other chosen heroes about your close friend. I was honestly surprised when I found out," Mireola said calmly.

"You already—?"

"You’re trying to save Agares. Am I wrong?"

Silva froze in shock, her eyes wide in disbelief. She hadn’t expected her teacher to figure it out so precisely.

"H-How did you—?"

"HAHA!"

"I’m a mage, Silva. It’s not that hard to uncover someone’s secrets with magic."

"So then... what are you going to do, Master?" Silva asked, firm and serious.

"I can’t save him. But I can bring the two of you together."

"On one condition."

"What is it?" Silva asked.

"You must agree... to become a Grand Elder of Solaris Magic Academy."
