Chapter 902: Queen Serena's Rage

***

Elsewhere in the castle, both the royal king and crown prince could not figure out where Queen Serena was actually headed. She stormed out so fast and didn't turn up in her chambers which worried both of them.

Unbeknownst to the two men, Queen Serena only actually had one destination.

The royal infirmary.

At first, Queen Serena was convinced that it was nothing more but imposters that wished to fool her husband. There were actually some people who sought to trick the king and make them believe that he could reunite with his first wife.

People who could supposedly 'talk' to the dead and promised to let King Xander communicate with the old queen, someone who visited and claimed to be the long-lost son of King Xander Delavigne from another woman, and other lies and deceit were made.

They wished to take advantage of the fact that King Xander  loved his first wife or simply wished to obtain wealth and power for themselves.

Queen Serena sentenced them all to death because of their impudent actions, however, she hadn't been worried back then… because she knew in her heart that her sister's son was truly dead.

She had made sure of it.

However, right now, Queen Serena was no longer sure.

The resemblance of this 'Julian' to both her husband and son filled her with both dread and anger. Queen Serena slammed open the doors to the royal infirmary and saw the presence of the royal doctor and all of his assistants.

There were even actually some nobility who were being treated.  She didn't care about any of them at all.

"Everyone out except for you, Gerald." Queen Serena hissed. "I need to have a word with you."

"Your Majesty…" the numerous people within the infirmary bowed lowly and they quickly made their way out of the room.

They were all too aware of the queen's tendency to lash out at other people for the smallest reasons when she was in one of her 'moods'. So they quickly fled before they incurred the queen's wrath.

Even the nobles were too aware of the 'problems' that Queen Serena had and chose to leave without much of a fuss.

Once they were all gone, Queen Serena immediately closed the door from behind her and made sure that there were no eavesdroppers from anywhere. Her heart pounded as her breathing became very erratic.

The old royal doctor, Gerald slowly got up from his seat and bowed to her. "Your Majesty, what can I do for you—"

Queen Serena slammed her hand on a nearby table and glared at the royal doctor. She didn't even let the poor doctor finish his sentence.

"Do not play as the witless fool with me, Gerald. I am sure that you and the rest of the palace people have heard that my son has brought two guests to the palace, one of them which resembles my son."

"Your Majesty, surely this is just some imposter—"

"No!" Queen Serena's body shook and trembled in anger. "I was fooled, even I was deceived that the person was my son—the resemblance is too much for me to ignore. Are you sure that the baby had died?"

"Yes, Your Majesty." the royal doctor nodded his head. Although even his palms had grown sweaty and his heart pounded at the thought. "I even showed it to you, Your Majesty… "

"Then how d

o you explain his presence?" Queen Serena narrowed her eyes at him. "The reason why you are here after all this time in spite of your 'incompetence' at keeping both my sister and her child alive is because of me, Gerald."

"Your Majesty… even I cannot account for this if, for some reason, someone resembles your son. The world works in mysterious ways, and even then, there are far many more realms than this one," the royal doctor said and tried to appear unfazed.

Queen Serena rubbed her face in annoyance. "Very well, since you have proven yourself to be incompetent once more… then I have no more use for you."

The royal doctor gulped but slowly nodded. He had been waiting for the day of retribution... when he would pay for his crimes.

It seemed like this was the day.

"I-I understand…" he murmured.

"Unless… you procure and will give me the poison that you had used before." Queen Serena looked at the royal doctor with a sweet smile. "I wish to see it for myself, Gerald. It truly kills, doesn't it?"

"Y-yes, Your Majesty." The royal doctor held back from quivering. "But this is very hard to procure—"

"Do not worry about it," Queen Serena said. "I am quite sure that you will be able to hire adventurers to get the necessary ingredients to make the poison. I will be the one who will pay for it. I simply wish to have my hands on the poison at the earliest. No delays, Gerald."

"N-no delays, Your Majesty." The old royal doctor nodded.

"Good." Queen Serena looked at the front door and stepped towards the exit. "Then we will be seeing each other soon enough."

Once Queen Serena left the royal infirmary, the old royal doctor, Gerald, couldn't hold it back any longer. He dropped to his knees and started to cry. Tears of both relief and sadness rolled down his cheeks.

"If what Her Majesty has said is true…" the royal doctor said to himself. "Then the boy has survived and also made his way here by the fate of the merciful gods."

However, before the royal doctor could do anything else or even get up from the floor, the door suddenly swung open again. Queen Serena returned with a far crueler smile and the royal doctor's heart was in his throat.

"I couldn't help but notice that you almost seemed relieved earlier when I told you that you had no more use for me, Gerald," Queen Serena said. Her face was decorated with a sinister smile. "It means that you no longer fear death for yourself."

"Y-Your Majesty…"

"While I do not know where your daughter is," Queen Serena said. "Keep in mind that you have other loved ones and relatives. I think that's all I wish to say. I'll see you tonight."

"Your Majesty, that's not enough time!"

"I don't care."

The doors finally slammed close at last.

From Missrealitybites:

Sorry, I was so busy this week and the new Privi tier was delayed. I worked at a conference and it was exhausting (also scary because the main speaker apparently tested positive for covid and I was in close contact with her. Anyway.. I am fine, don't worry).

I planned to give a mini mass release fo

r The King's Wife but I couldn't find time to sit down and write, so I will try again in a few days.

As for The Cursed Prince, I had the chapters ready but I needed to edit them, so that's why they're delayed. I hope you're enjoying the mass release. I will publish some more today.

Also, I would like to thank you for your support of this book after how many moons... whoa! Your comments, votes, gifts, and golden tickets are what keep me going - knowing that people still like this book. Thank you so much!

I  would like to thank the Top Three Golden Ticket contributors in March: remscicle, Tiffany_Co, and Hopeless8Romantic. This means a lot to me, thank you.
