Chapter 226: Interesting Woman

As the first sign of light peeked through the skyline, indicating dawn, Charlotte jumped out of bed and danced around her room, draping a shawl over her shoulders to cover her nightdress. She had gone to bed excited and woken up even more cheerful. Who knew her time with Viktor could elevate her mood so much?

They had spent the morning in bed together, the afternoon horse riding, and the evening in her bedroom chatting away for hours. It had been truly wholesome, and she loved every part of it.

She made her way out of her room toward Viktor’s chamber. Unknown to him, she had taken the spare key to his room and was planning to surprise him early that morning.

As she neared the door, she began to tiptoe to avoid making a sound that might alert him. She took a couple of breaths before inserting the key into the keyhole and twisting it twice. The lock clicked. Charlotte carefully turned the knob and pushed the door open, slipping inside before quietly shutting it behind her.

Placing a hand over her mouth, she giggled excitedly as she made her way toward his bedroom. From where she stood, she could see the outline of his body on the bed.

Charlotte walked around the bed and pulled the blanket, only to be met with pillows arranged in the shape of a person. She frowned. What was going on? Where was Viktor? Why wasn’t he in his chamber this early in the morning?

Different questions flooded her mind. Just as she was about to look around, strong arms wrapped around her waist, spinning her around. Charlotte squirmed and pulled away from the grip, it was Viktor.

"Dear goodness, you almost scared my heart out of me!" she exclaimed, chuckling as she playfully slapped his arm.

"Forgive me for that, but I had to teach you a lesson," Viktor said, crossing his arms over his chest. "You don’t sneak into people’s rooms this early or at any time of the day. It’s dangerous, Lucy."

She rolled her eyes. "I didn’t sneak into people’s rooms, I snuck into yours. I highly doubt there’s any danger in that."

"Of course there could be. I might have been armed, or worse. It isn’t a respectable thing to do. What if I were the one sneaking into your chambers? Won’t you have a problem with that?"

Charlotte’s smile turned sly as she took a step closer to him. "Not at all, Viktor. I would very much like your face to be the first thing I see when I awake. So, sneaking into my room wouldn’t be a bad idea at all."

Viktor returned her smile, his gaze locking with hers. "You’ve gotten quite bold, Lucy. I feel you don’t understand the gravity of your words sometimes."

She leaned forward, pressing her chest lightly against his crossed arms. "Oh, I’m fully aware of the words I speak, Viktor."

He chuckled softly, uncrossing his arms to pull her closer, his hands settling on her waist. "You are truly an interesting woman, far more interesting than I suspected."

"And you are an incredibly boring man."

They both laughed at her words before Viktor closed the space between them and kissed her softly on the lips, savoring their warmth and sweetness. The kiss lasted only a few seconds before she pulled away, trailing her lips along his jaw and down his neck, causing his hold on her to tighten.

Charlotte finally pulled away and sat on the bed. "What shall we do today?"

"Anything you want. But first, we must eat. I’m too hungry to think about anything," Viktor replied.

"I’m hungry too. Perhaps we’ll have breakfast with the prince and Lilith. It’s been a while since we’ve all eaten together." She paused, eyeing him curiously. "And Viktor, about your relationship with Lilith, when do you plan on telling her? It’s been a while already."

Viktor released a deep breath, picking up a white shirt from the bed and slipping his arms into the sleeves. "You’re right, Lucy. It’s about time I told her about our relationship. It’s just that..." He paused, buttoning the shirt slowly. "I haven’t had the right moment, and I don’t know how to begin that conversation. I can’t just walk up to her and say, ’I’m your brother, Lilith.’"

Charlotte tilted her head, watching him thoughtfully before shrugging her shoulders. "Why not? It’s a great way to start, straight to the point. The explanation can come after. You already know the truth, Viktor. It’s time she does too. Lilith has been through so much, and finding out that you’re her brother will only give her strength. She deserves that."

Viktor fastened the last button, his fingers slowing as her words sank in. He turned toward her, his expression softening. "Thank you, Lucy. Honestly, what would I ever do without you? You make my life so much better."

Charlotte smiled, her chin lifting proudly. "Of course I do. Who else could possibly make your life better if not me?"

He laughed, shaking his head as he ran his fingers through his hair. "You should go get dressed. I have to see Lucian briefly before escorting you to breakfast."

"Very well then," she said, rising gracefully to her feet. "I shall return to my chambers and don’t you dare keep me waiting." She pointed a finger at him, narrowing her eyes with playful warning.

"I wouldn’t dream of keeping my lady waiting," he replied, his voice teasing.

"Good." Charlotte leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek, her lips lingering for a moment longer than necessary. "I’ll see you soon."

Viktor didn’t move. He simply watched as she walked toward the door. His gaze followed her until she disappeared from sight.

Turning back to the mirror, he adjusted his shirt and straightened his collar, "lets get this done and over with," he murmured under his breath. With one last glance toward the door, he stepped out of the room, closing it firmly behind him.
