Chapter 187: An Ascender

’...Not again.’

Dante couldn’t help but feel a sense of familiarity at his current situation.

It was the same when the dark entity toyed with him.

It was the same when Greed controlled his body.

He couldn’t move, he couldn’t talk, he couldn’t fight, he couldn’t resist.

Even the parasite was frozen with him.

He couldn’t even commit suicide. The same thing every single time.

’Why are they all obsessed with turning me into this state? Do they share the same brain cells?’ Dante wondered while scanning the figure in front of him, seeing that the shadow looming over him became smaller.

He was a man with a long beard, wearing a straw hat on his head and an eye patch covering his right eye.

As for his clothes, he wore unbuttoned shirt, revealing his metallic grey skin and refined muscles. And he wore simple shorts for his lower half alongside a pair of casual... sandals?

Rather than a mighty being that could erase Dante from existence, he looked more like a middle-aged man who had just returned from a vacation.

And from how his shadow decreased in size, Dante guessed that he was a titan who could manipulate his own size, similar to what Zoran did.

’Yeah, he’s from Uldor, and he seems to be stronger than Raga.’ Dante sighed inwardly: ’Dear parasite, did you accidentally cause this?’

"We used all the misfortune as a fuel to your ability, that’s not my fault! And don’t call me a parasite!"

He smiled at Dante widely and crossed his arms: "Hey kid, are you the one responsible for that little formation?"

The guy pointed at the formation that Dante had just drawn.

Dante turned his head toward it normally, as though every other part of his body wasn’t frozen, and saw a spike in the middle of the formation.

’Wait, when did that thing emerge?’

That spike wasn’t there a moment ago!

That guy... he somehow did that in less than a second without making any sound.

However, that sight made Dante smirk.

"Ohoho, are you smirking?" The guy’s smile widened: "Yeah, it seems like it can’t be stopped once activated, at least not by destroying the runic structure. You must be proud of your little formation."

Dante nodded. Unlike the flawed formation that the witch had used, the real one couldn’t be stopped easily.

"Will you be kind enough to tell me how to deactivate it? You know that it’s going to harm the people of this kingdom too, right?" The man asked politely, summoning a relic that was a necklace with an eye engraved on it.

Dante felt that he finally could open his mouth and talk. Suspecting that the relic could detect lies, he decided to test something using his mask.

"I’m just a pure human without a bloodline, unlike you. How can I be the one who made something like this?"

The necklace didn’t show any reaction and the man said: "I suspect you more because you’re a pure human. I know enough about your kind to know that you’re the best black magic users! Can you kindly answer me now?"

Dante’s smile reached his eyes. Apparently, his mask could also hide the truth from that relic.

He knew that because he tried it once with Elizabeth, but he couldn’t blindly think that his mask was absolute. Maybe a stronger relic could see what the mask was hiding.

Regardless, now that he tested the relic’s limit, he decided to answer this question honestly: "Fine, I know how to deactivate it. The only method I know is to find the creator of this formation and ask her yourself!"

The man sighed in frustration: "I should have expected that. Why did you activate such a formation anyway? I didn’t know kids your age were that evil!"

Dante responded honestly again: "Some people annoyed me, and they all wanted this abyssal gate to open one way or another. I just figured out that another gate might piss them off. And I don’t really care about bringing some harm to people I don’t even know."

"Haha! I see, I see. Nice one, kid."

Suddenly, he patted Dante’s shoulder and looked at his stomach.

However, his smile wasn’t reaching his eyes as he looked at Dante’s stomach. His eyes held darker emotions, and his face showed that he was barely suppressing them.

The man hissed: "Can you tell me why I sense my right hand’s metal in your stomach? His life signal was lost a while ago, so I hurried up here instantly to check on him."

"..."

Dante blinked, staring at the man’s right hand: "Your right hand’s metal?"

The man sighed: "Listen, kid, let me tell you some useless knowledge they teach in academies even though you’ll probably never need it. Our bodies contain some metals that are important for our health. For example, your blood contains iron! Looks cool, right?"

His fist suddenly applied more force to Dante’s shoulder: "And I mean my right-hand position, not my literal hand. To make it simple, I can sense the blood, flesh, and bones of a man who holds a high position in my kingdom inside you!"

"Can you explain this? Otherwise, I might ’accidentally’ make you explode from the inside and check for them myself."

Dante inhaled a cold breath: ’My dear parasite—’

"It’s not my fault!"

Dante finally identified who that person was.

The kid whose mother died giving birth to him.

The boy who was kicked out of Uldor because of his abyssal bloodline.

The man who killed the former king of Uldor.

The current ruler of Uldor.

The titan who allowed the people with abyssal bloodlines to live in his kingdom.

The one who declared war on the Holy Kingdom to get a Crown of Existence.

The man who kidnapped the princess of the Holy Kingdom, and the rumoured Zaragoza’s favourite daughter, before spreading recording scrolls that showed her being tortured by all means.

He was a peak Rank 4 existence, known as the rank of the Ascenders.

He was known as — King Valor!
