[Will do.]

Time passed differently inside and outside the system. When Gao Yang pulled out of the system, Qilin spoke.

“Farewell, Gao Yang.”

Gao Yang armored his arm and charged at Qilin. No matter how many puppets Qilin had, his only chance was to take down the puppeteer himself.

Qilin wouldn’t know that Gao Yang had acquired level 7 Time-Space Spirit, which would allow Gao Yang to catch the man off guard.

A second later, Gao Yang made sure that Qilin was within his range.

Spirit Domain!

In an instant, his newly acquired energy rushed out. Before it could take form, however, it quickly returned to Gao Yang’s body and turned into an unstable vortex.

Shit!

Gao Yang started, realizing what was happening.

The same had happened to Alcoholic—an accident that could happen with newly acquired Time-Space Spirit. He was going on a time travel he could not control, to a random time and location!

Realizing that, Gao Yang quickly used one of his Talents.

...

...

Bam!

When Gao Yang realized it, he was lying in an old house weathered by time, surrounded by broken roof tiles. Outside the hole he had smashed through, the sky was covered in sparkling stars.

Gao Yang must have appeared above the house and fallen through the roof.

He tried his best to recall how the time travel had happened, but couldn’t remember anything. There was no tunnel, corridor, or something like a time machine. It felt more like playing on a swing. He swung back, and then when he swung forth, he was already in a different place he didn’t know.

He slowly sat up, realizing that he was in a child’s room.

Above him was a dim, yellow lightbulb and an old-fashioned rotating fan, and around him was a child bed decorated with cartoonish patterns and a wardrobe. The door and window were shut close.

Suddenly, Gao Yang sensed danger. He whirled around.

A red figure lunged at him and bit him on his raised left arm.

“Agh!” Gao Yang cried out in pain. It wasn’t simply physical, but a bite that came with spiritual damage. He felt as if a piece of his soul had been torn away.

The red figure skittered away after the ambush didn’t work.

A complete bitemark was left on Gao Yang’s left arm, the string of dark red spots resembling a pearl bracelet. The curse on the soul left not only scars on Gao Yang’s arm, but also a brand on his soul. Even if Gao Yang lost his arm and regenerated it, the scars would remain, forever.

He sweated, face pale, gasping for breaths. It took some time for him to recover from the spiritual damage.

He looked up to find stacking blocks scattered on the tatami floor. A girl looking to be three or four perched amid the toys, skinny and small like she was suffering from malnutrition. She had messy silver hair and bright eyes that looked like rubies, dressed in an ill-fitted red dress. Like an animal, she crawled on all fours with her back arched, teeth bared as she hissed with a threatening expression.

Gao Yang stared at her for a long while.

He knew that time was precious on a trip through time and space, and he should be doing something meaningful, but he couldn’t speak.

Fresh Snow, still so very young, remained guarded in the threatening posture. When she realized that the uninvited visitor from the sky didn’t seem hostile even after getting bit by her, she slowly relaxed.

She crawled up to Gao Yang and sniffed him from fifty centimeters away tentatively.

She blinked, nose twitching. The man didn’t smell unpleasant. Actually, there was something familiar about him.

Gao Yang finally mustered the courage to open his mouth, “Fresh...”

Meow! Fresh Snow jumped back and arched her back, trying to intimidate him.

“Fresh Snow.” Gao Yang tried his best to seem friendly and approachable, but his smile was stiff and his voice trembling. A single tear fell down his cheek. “I’m...not a bad person.”

Fresh Snow eyed him for a while before finally relaxing her guard.

She hesitated for a long while. Then she opened her mouth and said with unclear pronunciation like a child would. “Who are you?”

Her eyes darted around. “Who is...Fresh Snow?”

Gao Yang paused. Right, she’s not Fresh Snow yet. She and White Dew must have escaped Rogue Cape not long ago, all on their own. They haven’t met Spring.

“I’m Gao Yang,” he said gently. “Fresh Snow’s your name.”

“Fresh Snow.” She considered the words and shook her head. “I’m not Fresh Snow, but Sister!”

Gao Yang chuckled. “Sister’s not a name, but a role in a family.”

“A role in a family?”

“Just like grandpa, granny, father, and mother.”

Fresh Snow nodded with understanding.

“So only your older sister would call you sister, not anyone else.”

“Oh!” Fresh Snow looked at him with wonder, dropping her guard fully. “How did you know I have an older sister?”

“Because...” Gao Yang decided to go for the truth. “Because I’m from the future.”

“Future?” Fresh Snow became even more amazed. “Tomorrow?”

“Well, many tomorrows,” Gao Yang said. “I’m from a long long time after.”

Fresh Snow blinked with some confusion.

“In the future, you and I...” Gao Yang broke into a smile. “Will be good friends.”

“Good friends,” Fresh Snow repeated. Then her head jerked up as she shouted, “No!”

She leaped onto the child’s bed and grabbed a patchwork of a red cloth doll, holding it close. “Little Red is my good friend!”

“Yeah, Little Red is your good friend now.” Gao Yang pointed at the doll before pointing at himself. “I’m your future good friend. You can have many good friends.”

Fresh Snow thought about it. It made some sense.

She wasn’t fully happy with her good friend now. Little Red couldn’t speak. When Sister wasn’t home, she felt all alone and really lonely.

This man was strange, but he smelled good, and he knew a lot. Having him as a good friend would surely make her not lonely.

Thinking it through, Fresh Snow sat crosslegged on her bed and hugged her arms, imitating her sister, “Hmph, I’ll consider it!”

“Yeah, do consider...” Gao Yang was going to say something when he noticed his energy stirring again, slowly forming a vortex. His smile slid off his face like melted butter.

Can level 7 Time-Space Spirit only sustain such a short travel? It seems that the period I can stay is random when the skill activates for the first time.

Just as well. If I use up my energy here, I’ll stand an even lower chance against Qilin.

“What’s wrong?” Fresh Snow sensed Gao Yang’s disappointment.

“Fresh Snow,” he said. “I...may have to go now.”
