The Chef Rules the Last Days-Chapter 497 - 495: Airplane
Chapter 497: Chapter 495: Airplane
He spoke with such conviction, and Su Mo felt warmth in her heart. She pulled down his hand, smiling, "They all took the plane, once we finish everything here, let’s head to the airport and take a shortcut ourselves."
"Hmm."
The collection in the Botanical Garden went surprisingly smoothly; there were no Mutant Plants, nor did they encounter any zombies. This was all thanks to Lu Chen’s thorough cleanup when they arrived.
With their loot secured, happy expressions finally appeared on Jin Han and the others’ faces. As long as they brought everything back, the refugee camp would be completely free from poverty and hunger.
Before nightfall, they drove back to Yellowstone Airport.
Su Mo’s suggestion to fly back was unanimously agreed upon by everyone.
Upon arriving at the airport entrance, Su Mo stowed away their combat vehicle, and the group walked inside.
The hallway was littered with corpses, scattered with zombie bodies, torn clothes, exposed decaying organs, and blood splattered on the walls.
Moving through the hallway, they descended into the waiting area, greeted by the smell of steel-reinforced concrete. The giant nose of an airplane had smashed into the waiting room’s glass walls. Tempered glass shards were everywhere; the massive nose embedded in the terminal, and two panes of glass on the cockpit, upon which a beam of flashlight shone, clearly displaying the faces of several zombies pressed against it.
The sight shocked Su Mo. She stepped back and drew her Tang Blade, wary, "How do we get to the tarmac outside; half of these entrances have collapsed."
"Someone’s coming," the Spiritual Superpower User continued her sentence.
They knew from the beginning that there were people here.
Su Mo stood next to Lu Chen, looking toward the entrance.
Three men and one woman; that woman was especially robust, clearly an evolutionary strength type, and there were also... two zombies missing arms.
This combination was indeed strange and immediately roused their vigilance.
"It’s my first time seeing someone keeping zombies as pets during the apocalypse," Jianxiong protected Su Mo by her side, looking at the two zombies propped up by iron rods, somewhat astonished.
"It helps better mask our scent," the woman opposite answered, her eyes sweeping over them for a while, her tone still polite.
"We spotted you early this morning," she said.
Su Mo raised an eyebrow, "We just want to hitch a ride on a plane."
"You have so many people, anyone knows how to fly a plane?!" a slim man from the opposite group exclaimed with a gleam in his eyes.
Su Mo was surprised. Were these people waiting here because none of them knew how to fly?
She immediately grabbed Lu Chen’s hand and raised it, her smile beaming, "Here’s the old driver, do you have a plane to offer, so we can have a mutual benefit?"
The man looked down at her, his expression a reluctant yet indulgent admonishment.
The woman from the opposite side sized him up, though Lu Chen and Su Mo concealed their aura well, making it difficult to discern, she still scrutinized each person carefully, estimating their levels to be around Level 3 or 4.
"About the same."
She couldn’t help but speak with a hint of irony, "Even if you can fly a plane, with just a few of you, it’s not certain you can handle the things inside the plane. Did you see the head on that window?"
"These monsters eat each other and have evolved several Level 4 ones. If it weren’t for that glass, could you handle them?"
The way she spoke wasn’t very pleasant. Jianxiong’s temper flared up, "What? You look down on us?"
They had hidden their presence well, making their strength imperceptible to others. Su Mo found this person’s arrogance funny despite their apparent weakness, but still responded with a smile, "What should we do, then? We have someone who can fly a plane. How would we know it won’t work if we don’t try? Besides, our captain isn’t weak in combat either."
Her gaze flickered toward Jin Han’s direction, his team although mostly Level 3, their captain was anything but weak.
However, Su Mo’s demeanor, no matter how sincere, only invited more disdain from the other party, mixed with a tinge of jealousy for her beauty. The woman, leaning against a post, hips twisted, said, "Someone like you should stay properly hidden under a man’s wing, what good are those arms and legs for?"
No matter the intent behind those words, they had offended Su Mo. Her round eyes narrowed slightly, and next to her, Lu Chen conjured an immensely thick ice crystal out of thin air and shot it towards the other person at high velocity.
The strong woman had no place to hide; the speed was simply too fast, and the ice crystal stopped mere centimeters from her eyeball, radiating a murderous intent.
Jianxiong too, swung his fists as his body suddenly swelled a bit, his expression fierce, "You should watch your mouth, woman."
The menace they exuded made the three opposite them sound alarms. The crew-cut man immediately said, "The plane is right behind you. If you can take it, I won’t need these two stinking things anymore."
With those words, he neatly severed the heads of two zombies that had been used to mask their scent, glancing warningly at the strong woman.
With someone taking her side, Su Mo tilted her chin up at them and then, as though realizing something, turned back to look at the plane swarming with zombies at the terminal, her eye twitching, "Are you serious? This plane is still operable?"
"It’s not just operable, it’s the only one left."
"What do you mean?"
"Come with us."
Su Mo looked towards Lu Chen, and after seeing his nod, she led everyone out of the terminal, walking out over the rubble on the side.
They hadn’t realized until they walked in, half of the terminal had been completely destroyed by a meteor’s impact. Standing at the top and looking out, almost all the planes on the runway were rusted. What Su Mo saw from outside was just a facade, and like the one in the terminal, some airplanes were also filled with zombies inside.
The planes that seemed intact had long since aged and rusted due to the black rain, who knew how many problems would arise if one of these were to fly.
Su Mo couldn’t help but fall silent too.
Lu Chen turned and coldly asked the woman, "Why are you so sure that this plane can still fly?"
One of the three, the man with the crew cut, said, "We’ve observed for three days. Only this plane’s wings and landing gear are intact, the turbines on both sides aren’t jammed by foreign objects. Most importantly, we found its flight information in an office, it was just about to take off before the apocalypse, but the flight was canceled suddenly..."
From his words, it could be inferred that the plane had enough fuel; hence, there was a high likelihood it could take off. Thinking this, Su Mo tugged Lu Chen’s hand, "What do you think?"
He briefly surveyed the airport runway, spotting a few zombies staggering around, but the main path was clear, suitable for takeoff. "Is the radar still working?"
