Chapter 182: Chapter 182: Can Only Kiss Him

In the countryside, Grandma said, her expression full of confusion, "Rona Langdon’s visit today was strange. I can’t shake the feeling that something’s not right. She despises coming to the countryside, not to mention we just had a fight a few days ago. With her personality, after that argument, if Zachary hadn’t insisted, she probably wouldn’t have come here for the rest of her life."

"I think I saw her go upstairs." Hearing what Grandma said, Grandpa also sensed that something was wrong.

"Oh no!" Grandma hurried upstairs. When she got there, she found the box had been opened. After a quick check, she realized a painting was missing.

Grandma asked, completely baffled, "Why would she take a painting?"

Grandpa said with complete composure, "Who cares why she took the painting. All the paintings in this box are fakes, anyway. If she tries to sell it, it will just teach her a lesson."

Grandma sighed. "She’s not just greedy, she’s a fool. Our family has known no peace since Zachary married her."

She felt a pang of regret. If she had known things would turn out this way, she would have never, under any circumstances, let Zachary Preston marry Rona Langdon. But what was done was done, and there was no point in crying over spilled milk.

「Soon, the day of Master Nathan’s birthday arrived.」

Cara Preston was up at the crack of dawn, getting all dolled up. She had gone to great lengths to convince Rona Langdon to buy her a new dress, and she’d even gone to the salon for a new hairstyle.

Seeing how eager Cara was, Vera Xavier was filled with contempt. ’Anyone who didn’t know better would think she was heading to a blind date!’

Vera Xavier had to admit, however, that Cara Preston was quite attractive. Dressed up like this, she looked exceptionally sweet and demure.

Vera couldn’t be bothered with any of this. She made an excuse and rode Zachary Preston’s bicycle to Mr. Sterling’s house to pick up a seal.

The path to Mr. Sterling’s house went by a river. While still a good distance away, she heard someone shouting, "Help! Someone fell in the river!"

Vera Xavier froze for a second. As she rode closer, she saw a crowd standing on the riverbank. In the water, someone was struggling for their life, their body bobbing up and down, but no one had jumped in to help.

The river wasn’t extremely wide, but it was still about twenty to thirty meters across. While the surface looked calm, strong undercurrents churned below. No one dared to risk going in.

Vera Xavier’s brow furrowed. She was a decent swimmer. Just as she decided to jump in to the rescue, a hand pulled her back. She froze, stunned to see Nathaniel Nathan when she turned her head.

Thinking she was mistaken, she couldn’t help but rub her eyes. Nathaniel Nathan swiftly took off his jacket, thrust it into her hands, and said, "Wait here."

With that, he dove straight into the water. By the time Vera Xavier came to her senses, he had already reached the person in the middle of the river with incredible speed. She watched as he reached out, secured the person in his arms, and immediately began swimming back to shore.

The early morning river water was quite chilly, but this temperature was nothing to him. As an elite member of The Phantom Unit, he had dived in icy waters before.

When Nathaniel Nathan dragged the person back to the bank, the onlookers scrambled to help, pulling the victim onto the nearby concrete ground.

Vera Xavier got a clear look as well. The victim was a young girl, about fifteen or sixteen years old. Her face was a ghastly, bluish-white from being in the water, and she wasn’t breathing.

Vera knew at a glance that emergency first aid was required. Without a second thought, she rushed to the girl’s side and began chest compressions. Then she pinched the girl’s nose, preparing to perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

When Nathaniel Nathan saw what Vera Xavier was doing, his brow furrowed. He subconsciously started to pull her away. ’Her lips were his to kiss, and his alone!’
