Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Heartless Woman

’Something happened to her,’ just three simple words, yet they glossily sum up all she went through.

She nearly died in that room, almost dragging Madeline Forest down with her.

In the end, does even an apology from Nancy not befit her ears?

Yelena Hughes’ eyes tinged with a slight mocking smile, "Young Master Yale was right, I deserved it, Miss Alden, don’t let it weigh on your mind."

"Are you okay?" Nancy Alden looked concerned, wishing she could get out of the car, "The Sovereign Club isn’t a place for you, don’t go there again."

Yelena Hughes almost laughed, as if she wanted to go there willingly?

"If you’ve nothing else, I need to get to work, excuse me." She didn’t want to indulge Nancy in this act.

Yelena cradled the bag of medication in her arms, though there was a bit of sourness in her heart, it dissipated quickly. She had the medicine, as if all her troubles could end at that moment.

Her life indeed returned to normal, sometimes, when Madeline Forest wasn’t working, she would ask her out for a meal or shopping.

...

The weather grew colder, at night, the city draped itself in indulgence and luxury.

Filled with decadence and abandon, emotions and sensuality were just toys to be played with.

Jasper Yale got into the car, tearing open his collar. He had drunk quite a bit of alcohol tonight.

The man leaned back in the rear seat, the outside lights slicing through his sharp features, Dean Holloway turned around, seeing his thin lips drawn into a line.

That heartless woman Yelena Hughes!

Jasper pulled out his phone, ever since she got the medicine that day, she had vanished as if she were dead.

Jasper dialed Yelena Hughes’ number, but at this late hour, she was out chasing news.

The phone was with Dean Holloway, who was squatting beside a tree at the moment, like a big stray dog, ready to assist Yelena Hughes who was undercover in the factory.

The ringing startled Dean Holloway, he took a look— a strange number.

Must be a harassment call, he casually cut it off.

Jasper listened to the busy tone, yanking off his tie with one hand, who dared to hang up his call?

He called a second time.

Dean Holloway was now irritable, thinking this scammer was truly annoying, he wasn’t going to answer it, driving him mad!

The call was cut again.

Jasper clenched his jaw, the corners of his mouth tightened, tossing the phone aside, fine, quite capable!

Yelena Hughes, you’ve got guts.

"Young Master, where to now?"

Jasper was burning up, if it weren’t for the fact that Hailey Jenkins poured all the drinks tonight, he’d seriously suspect someone slipped him something potent.

"To the Hughes Family."

"Ah?" Hailey Jenkins perked up her ears for confirmation.

"Are you deaf?" Jasper lightly chided.

Hailey Jenkins quickly signaled the driver to head to Yelena Hughes’ home.

Late at night, it was unsafe for a woman to return alone, Dean Holloway dropped Yelena Hughes off at the gate of the complex.

"See you tomorrow." Yelena Hughes said, getting out of the car.

Heading quickly in the direction of her home, she flipped open her phone to check if Anne had called.

In the call log, the top number was marked in red, as a missed call.

Yelena Hughes stared intently, it was actually Young Master Yale’s number.

He had called twice.

Yelena Hughes thought to call back, but on second thought, what could he want at this hour? 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

Miss Alden was quite frail, maybe he wanted her to fill the void?

Yelena Hughes quickly tucked the phone into her pocket, pretending as if she hadn’t seen it.

The streetlights in the old neighborhood were poor, often left unrepaired; Yelena Hughes returned home almost entirely in the dark.

The surroundings were quiet, she perked up her ears, hearing something amiss.

Soft, yet impossible to ignore.

Yelena Hughes followed the sound, seeing a car hidden behind the more-than-half-a-person high greenery, due to the broken corner light, it was hard to notice without looking closely.

Yet the engine was running, Yelena Hughes squinted, recognizing the license plate!

She turned her head nonchalantly, then calmly entered the building.

Yelena Hughes’ heart pounded, she seemed to hear the sound of a car door being slammed, followed by hurried footsteps.

She dared not look back, rushing upstairs.

The sensor light lit up on the second floor, the sound of footsteps reached behind her, Yelena Hughes felt a chill up her spine and before she could turn around, Jasper Yale pressed her against the wall.

"Spare me, big brother, you want money? I have some in my bag."

Jasper leaned close to her face, what was she pretending about? The fear on Yelena Hughes’ face diminished considerably after seeing him, "Oh, it’s Young Master Yale."

The smell of alcohol was strong on him, his eyes dark, even his breath carried a threatening aura.

Yelena Hughes made a swallowing motion somewhat guiltily, "Good evening, Young Master Yale."

"What’s good about it?"

This... was a tough question to answer.

Yelena Hughes followed the sidetracked topic, "Young Master, you’re kind and good-hearted."

"Really?" Jasper pressed against her more tightly, Yelena Hughes’ waist almost pinned against the wall, close to breaking.

Jasper’s thin lips brushed against her ear, his words teasing that lock of hair, "Isn’t it my skills that are good?"

She choked on her breath, the light above dimmed, her face still pressed against the wall.

What kind of situation was this?

"Let go first, my face is cold."

"Your skin’s so thick, you wouldn’t feel cold on ice." Jasper teased as he freed a hand, reaching into Yelena Hughes’ coat pocket.

He searched around, not finding her phone.

Jasper then moved his hand to her jeans, she squirmed uncomfortably. "What are you looking for?"

Through the denim fabric, the man had found where her phone was, his long, slender fingers delved in bit by bit.

Yelena Hughes felt her legs go weak, Jasper’s fingertips finally reached the phone, but the denim lacked elasticity, and being tight-fitting, he tugged but couldn’t pull the phone out.

"Why are you holding it so tight?"

Yelena Hughes’ mind buzzed, could he stop with the ambiguous statements?

"Let me do it."

Jasper’s voice was soaked in seduction, saying "no need" as his fingers undid her button and zipper, easing the pocket’s grip, allowing him to draw out the phone.

Jasper took Yelena Hughes’ hand, unlocking it with the fingerprint, bringing up the call log.

He then placed the phone in front of Yelena Hughes, "How do you explain this?"

She glanced at it, telling the truth, "I was out chasing news, missed the call."

"Yelena Hughes," Jasper called her name deliberately, "In the past, would you have dared to do this?"

Today, she acted with impunity, and so brazenly.

Jasper pocketed her phone, "Since I can’t reach you, let’s go to your place."

With that, he lifted his long legs to head upstairs.

Yelena Hughes hurried to stop him, "Young Master Yale, don’t..."

Jasper flung her hand off, already two steps ahead, in desperation, Yelena Hughes quietly called, "Young Master, don’t forget, there are rats upstairs."
