The Broken Halo-Chapter 71: A Strange Boy and Girl
Assuming every candidate chose to form teams of six, there would be a total of one hundred and thirty one (131) teams.
However, not every demon desired to team up with others.
Some were arrogant and believed in their strength. Many of the arrogant demons were already extremely frustrated because of the first trial.
In their minds, the first trial was pure nonsensical and did not truly test any aspect of what it meant to be an assassin.
It did not test their ability to kill, to be stealthy, their combat capabilities, and so many aspects of what it meant to be assassin.
Many of the candidates who failed the first test were talented demons with a combat power above a considerable number of the entire trial candidates.
But because of the nature of the first trial, they could not use their wings to soar to the sky.
Another reason why the demons were even more frustrated was because of Simon.
Many of them had no idea who Simon was, but they completely believed that Simon had survived and passed the first trial all because of luck. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
They did not and could not believe that Simon who was a Minor Lesser Demon was ahead of every single person.
These arrogant candidates who believed in their power, decided to partake in the second trial on their own.
It was a foolish thing to do, and Simon knew this. But what could he say when he also planned on doing the exact same thing?
After the Veilmaster told them all the rules of the second trial and also a few other things, some candidates who had no desire in teaming up left the barrier so that they could scout for better locations to hunt the beasts of the night.
Meanwhile, others began to meet up with one another in other to form groups.
Large groups like the Odrasil’s group had no choice but to break their group into smaller groups.
Simon could see the frustration on the faces of such group leaders, and he could also see some getting into arguments because of this.
Simon calmly observed everything from where he sat, and a few threw curious and suspicious gazes at him.
None had attempted to recruit him to their group mainly because of his heart rank. Despite the fact that he was playing with his badge which had "1" on it, none of them believed that he would actually be able to contribute anything to the group.
With how weak his demon heart was, they believed that Simon would not last the night in the Blackwind Valley.
They believed that luck would not help him out this time around, and that he would be more of a baggage to any group than of help.
Simon heard the whispers and could also guess their thoughts about him, but he was not looking for a group, so such thoughts and whispers didn’t bother him in the slightest.
The main reason he kept on sitting was because he wanted to observe every candidate.
He wanted to know if there was secretly a candidate who was an Archfiend or a candidate with the power to battle Dread Beasts.
His cat eyes were constantly scanning each candidate, and he also used his new ocular technique to see their ranks and chaos flame.
But even after five minutes passed, he still did not find anybody that could have the ability to fight a Dread Beast.
’Don’t tell me they actually expect a group to be able to kill a Dread Beast? If a Dread Beast is on a rampage, a lot would die, and I could also die.’
’What are they thinking?’
As Simon had this thought, a voice suddenly drifted into his ears from the right.
"Hello."
Simon’s pupils constricted, and he instantly jumped back at an extremely fast speed.
’Who?’
Simon’s eyes became extreme sharp and cold, but when he saw the source of the voice, a flicker of confusion flashed in his eyes.
In front of him were two people- a boy and a girl.
The boy was short, barely above Simon’s waist. He had silver hair, and his eyes and forehead were covered with a black cloth. He also wore the same black robes that were given to every single candidate.
Although the boy’s eyes were covered, Simon had the feeling that the boy could see him perfectly well.
In fact, it felt like the boy could see more about him that what the normal eyes could see.
’A demon race that has unique ocular abilities? What demon race is he? I can’t recall any demon that covered their eyes and head together.’
’The Charysm are the only demons I know with a unique third eye, but they don’t cover their eyes at all. It’s a source of pride and identity.’
’And they also do not have silver hair... Is it a new demon race?’
The gears in Simon’s head spun rapidly as he observed this boy, then he shifted his gaze to the girl.
The girl was taller than the boy. She was nearly as tall as him, and her hair was also white like his.
Though, his white was more beautiful than hers.
She was also beautiful. Her black eyes shimmered like the moon, and with her perfect petite frame, she looked more like a goddess than a demon.
Just like the boy, Simon was also confused about the appearance of the girl for several reasons.
The first was her race.
The girl looked like a human from head to toe, and the only thing that would make humans not to believe she was a human was her extremely beautiful appearance and her white hair.
Aside from that, there was nothing to show that she was a demon aside from the fact that Simon could see her chaos flame and demonic energy.
However...
’It’s so little compared to that of the boy.’
Simon alternated his gaze from the girl to the boy, then back to the girl.
’He’s a Supreme Fiend, while she’s just a Prime Lesser Demon.’
’A Fiend and Lesser Demon was able to sneak up on me? Who in the world are they?’
