The Broken Halo-Chapter 142: A New
Simon was extremely taken aback by the resistance he felt from Thorgan’s corpse as he used Devour on it.
Thorgan was dead.
There was no denying it since he was staring at his corpse right in front of him.
Engulfing the Chaos Blade in Chaos Flames caused it to pierce Thorgan’s shadow cocoon with extreme ease, and the Chaos Flames were far different from normal flames in terms of killing and damage done.
But Simon was not completely certain about this because he had never fought a true battle with the Chaos Blade and Chaos Flames.
Although this was intriguing to Simon, he was more concerned about the fact that he was feeling a resistance from Thorgan’s corpse.
’How is he still resisting? He’s dead. So what is resisting and refusing to be devoured?’
Simon frowned deeply as he had this thought, then his mind instantly brought the possible answer to this question.
’His royal bloodline?’
’But how come? I know that the difference between royal bloodlines and even noble bloodlines is vast, but it can even fight back against Devour after the death of the owner?’
’What are truly royal bloodlines? Why are they so different from other bloodlines? Do they have a will of their own?’
’And what if I was actually a Devourer and did not just have the skill? Would such a thing happen? Or could it be that this is normal?’
’Devourers could have multiple bloodlines, and there’s the possibility that royal bloodlines instinctively refused to submit to a Devourer... Hmm... That’s probably it, or not.’
Sigh
Simon exhaled a deep sigh. Life truly wanted to delay him and place many stumbling blocks on his path.
He opened his eyes, then he placed all his focus on Devour and Thorgan’s corpse.
Whenever he used Devour, it always felt like he was absorbing so many things into his body, but at the same time, it felt like he was losing out on some things because of his low proficiency.
But now, it felt like he was going through a tug of war where something crucial refused to be drawn toward his hand.
He also had this gut feeling that if he lost this tug of war, he’d completely lose out on getting something tangible from Thorgan’s corpse.
And this would be the one thing that could truly piss him because it meant he gained nothing after stabbing Thorgan in the back.
There were many things Simon knew he could obtain from Thorgan’s corpse once it was devoured.
The first and most certain were the physical attributes. His physical attributes would definitely experience an increase, and since Thorgan’s physique was built for enhanced agility and speed, not strength, Simon knew his agility and speed would also increase.
Another thing he could gain was Thorgan’s extremely high shadow affinity, but this would be him relying extremely on luck because he knew that he was not proficient enough in locating, grasping, and devouring one’s affinity.
Devouring the physical attributes was far different and more difficult than devouring their affinity and making it his.
After using Devour a few times, he realized that using Devour was just like a claw machine where Devour was the claw and the physical attributes, affinities, skills, and so on were the prizes that needed to be found and grabbed.
The more his proficiency increased, the more prizes he could see, the firmer the claws, and the better his understanding of the claws themselves.
With his current proficiency, Simon’s main goal was to not try and devour Thorgan’s affinity or talents.
No.
The chances of failure for these two were rather high.
What he wanted was to obtain at least one very important skill from Thorgan’s list of skills.
The ability to sense shadows and what’s in shadows.
Even if Simon could not gain Thorgan’s shadow affinity, shadow manipulation ability, shadow step, shadow recovery, and so on, Simon needed the Shadow Sense no matter what.
What Thorgan did was a massive eye-opener for him, and he knew that this was a must-have skill.
He was in the midst of countless assassins who knew how to use the shadows. Who was to say that Thorgan would be the only clan member to hide in his shadow and he would be unaware like a fool?
Not being able to sense his shadow and the shadow around him would give him so many problems and would also make his life difficult in the clan.
Which was why, getting Thorgan’s shadow sense skill was his top priority. If he could something else along with it, then he was lucky.
However, the resistance he felt from Thorgan’s royal bloodline made it difficult for him to obtain the Shadow Sense skill and any other skill or ability aside from his physical attributes.
In his mind, Thorgan’s bloodline was pulling away every single one of Thorgan’s skill from him while also trying to distance itself away from the attractive force of Devour.
It was extremely annoying for Simon, but he was focused and determined on getting some benefits from killing Thorgan.
His eyes were unblinking, and the tug of war that was occurring between Simon and the bloodline was about to reach an end.
With the help of his Seven Stars Blessing, his proficiency was increasing at a rapid rate, and this was the reason why Thorgan’s bloodline was failing.
A few minutes later, Simon’s eyes flashed and Thorgan’s corpse turned to ashes.
The battle between Simon and Thorgan’s bloodline had thoroughly shattered Thorgan’s dessicated corpse. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
However, Simon’s focus was not on Thorgan’s ashes, but on the changes going on inside his body.
The first change was the change to his physical body.
Thorgan was a Supreme Fiend with a Royal Bloodline, and his physical attributes were not low at all. Especially his agility and speed.
Simon knew that he was now faster than before, and even stronger than before.
As his body refined this energy to completely make it his, he was focused on the changes in one of the seven black stars in his Sea of Consciousness.
He had not only gotten a skill, he had also gotten a new affinity.
