Chapter 131: 131: Should I Take The Risk?

"All that information would cost you sixty seven thousand (67,000) merits."

Simon was not surprised by how expensive what he requested for was. Although he would have definitely preferred it if it was a lot cheaper, but it was still withing his expectations.

"What part of my request costs the most? Is it information on his heart rank? Bloodline? Abilities? Connections? Or location?"

The Whisperer furrowed her brows slightly with a pondering and baffled expression.

’Is he asking so that he can know what to remove from his request affnd lower the price?’

Despite the numerous thoughts in her mind, she answered a few seconds later.

"His connections."

Simon calmly nodded. "How much is it to know his connections?"

"Forty one thousand (41,000) merits."

Simon softly hummed, then he nodded slightly.

"Alright. How much is it to know his heart rank?"

This time around, the Whisperer had a truly baffled expression which she could not hide.

What was this Initiate doing by asking her all these questions?

Wasn’t he backed by a higher up in the clan who most likely wanted to deal with Pellin or those supporting him from behind?

Doesn’t he have the resources to get what he wanted?

’In fact, if he had a backer, shouldn’t his backer know the heart rank of somebody like Pellin?’

’Pellin is not an assassin and he doesn’t know how to hide his heart rank unlike some other clan members. His heart rank can be easily gotten. So why does he want to know this information?’

Although the Whisperer had many questions in her heart, she had been thoroughly trained by the clan and she was experienced.

Her current job was not to gather information but sell it. No matter what the information was.

"It costs twenty merits to know his heart rank." She replied, and Simon calmly nodded with his arms folded and indifferent gaze behind his mask.

Though inwardly, he was relieved.

"I’d like to buy that information."

The Whisperer gestured to her left where a handprint could be seen.

"You can pay using that."

Simon glanced at the handprint, then he placed his right hand on it.

He felt his Grave Mark emit a warmth then a dark glow was emitted from his hand which then caused the hidden runes of the table to come to life.

The chaos runes came to life, then words in the demonic language appeared above the counter.

The chaos runes showed the information he wanted to purchase, the date and time he wanted to purchase it, which counter he was purchasing it from, the price he was paying to purchase it, a few other details.

Simon glanced through it, and he was not surprised when he saw that the price he had to pay for the information he wanted was not just twenty merits but sixty merits.

"Huh? Please hold on. Why is it?"

As for the female Whisperer, she was confused.

She thought there was a problem with the formation on the table, so she tried to find what the problem was.

But a second later, she noticed a line in the floating words in front of her.

Slave

Just a single word, and she understood why the price was triple the original price.

She looked at Simon, and she was even more baffled. A lot went on in her mind, but she exhaled deeply, controlled herself, then acted professionally.

"As you can see, the price is triple the original amount because of your slave status. Are you still willing to pay?"

Simon nodded with an indifferent expression. "Yeah."

Without wasting another second, he transferred sixty merits to the Whisperer, and the words in the air changed, showing that he had made a successful transfer."

The Whisperer glanced at it, then she gave him what he paid for without any hassle.

"Pellin’s is a Prime Archfiend and is soon to become a Superior Archfiend." 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

Simon frowned behind his mask. "How soon?"

"Fifty merits." The female Whisperer said indifferently, and Simon’s left eye twitched.

That meant one hundred and fifty merits for him.

"Forget about it." He shook his head slightly, then he turned and walked away.

"Thank you for the information."

The female Whisperer stared at his back till he left the Intelligence Office, and her brows furrowed deeply as she stared at the entrance of the Intelligence Office.

’A slave? The chances of him having a backer are very low because no backer would only want to know the heart rank of Pellin. And the chances of a backer using a slave to pay for expensive information is very low.’

’Two hundred and one thousand (201,000) merits is not a small amount even for Veilmasters. Unless his backer is one of the elite or rich Veilmasters, or one of the Grave Lords, I doubt any other person would willingly pay two hundred and one thousand (201,000) merits just to get information on Pellin.’

’The cost is not just worth it. They’d rather use another subordinate that’s not a slave... Besides, at the end of the day, he only paid to know the demon pig’s heart rank and did not pay to know how soon the demon pig would advance.’

’Which means... he doesn’t have a backer... I should send a report about this and put in a request to ask for information on him.’

’My guts tells me that something might happen... But the chances of something happening is very low since this is his just first day in the clan and he’s still very weak.’

Sigh

"I’m thinking too much about something so minor and trivial. What’s gotten into me?" The female Whisperer shook her head, though she still sent a report and requested for information on Simon.

Meanwhile, after Simon left the Intelligence Office, he went to a nearby restaurant to eat.

He had not eaten for days.

Ever since he was taken by Zaglur and was then taken by the Shadowgrave Clan, he had not eaten.

Fortunately for him, he was a demon with a Daemon bloodline.

Although he had only awakened a portion of his Daemon bloodline, it still enabled him to last longer than normal demons at his level.

As he sat on the chair in the restaurant while waiting for the food he ordered, he stared at the window with a multitude of calculations and scenarios running through his mind.

’Is it possible? Should I take the risk?’
