The Broken Angel & Her Overprotective Brothers-Chapter 382: The Man From The Past
"Welcome back, Emilia. I’ve been expecting you."
Emily wasn’t sure what really made those icy chills to run down her spine and freeze her entire body - those words or the fact that she found that voice kind of familiar. Slowly, she found herself turning in the direction of the voice and a loud gasp escaped her lips when her gaze finally landed on a face that appeared familiar for some reason. Yet, she failed to recall where she had seen him before.
"Who are you?" She found herself asking and much to her surprise, her voice came out calm and devoid of the very fear that was running throughout her entire body.
The man smiled in response to her question, a smile so sinister that it made Emily want to run as far away from him as possible. Yet, her feet were jammed in their places and despite the warning bells ringing in her brain, her body was completely out of her control.
"I almost feel sad that you can’t even recognize me, Emilia. But then considering the number of years it has been since we last met, it’s not really that strange that you have forgotten about me." The man spoke so much, and yet, he didn’t provide an answer to her question.
As if he read her thoughts, he added, "Let me help you recall. You were about seven years old and that night a huge storm hit the city where you were living with your mother. I remember you returned home drenched from head to toe and found me having a warm dinner at your house that your lovely mother prepared for me."
The more he spoke, the more anxious Emily became. She tried to follow his words and recall the night he was talking about but nothing came up. Her mother used to hook up way too many men and it was almost impossible for her to remember all of them.
"If all this is still unable to help you recall, there’s one more thing that might help." The man said, successfully pulling all of Emily’s attention toward him. "That night, you accidentaly broke a glass and your mother became so angry at you. She kept shouting at you and completely ignored the fact that you had injured your fingers while picking up the broken pieces of the glass."
The memory finally clicked in with this last piece of information and Emily immediately recalled seeing the man that night. He was the one who helped her in cleaning up the broken glasses and also bandaged her fingers.
"You... what are you... no! Who are you?" Emily changed her question when she realized that the man in front of her was no human. Her power thrummed under skin, ready to come out and protect her if needed. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
The man let out another sinister laugh that echoed through the room. His eye color flickered from intense dark purple to dark red as he stared at her. A few long seconds of silence passed before he finally spoke. "Let’s continue from where we stopped. Shall we?"
He didn’t wait to hear Emily’s response before he continued with his story. "After bandaging up your wounds that night, I realized that a little bit of your blood was smeared on my fingers. As a half vampire, it was impossible for me to ignore the allure. So, I just took a taste and oh my, what a secret I find out that night..."
Emily’s heart started beating crazily in her chest when she heard his words. The look in his eyes once again made her want to run but just like before, her legs refused to move at all. It was not until she spared a quick look down at the floor, did she realize that the reason she was unable to move was not because her body had refused to listen to her brain’s command but because she had somehow stepped into a formation that left her immobile.
She tried to struggle out of the formation but it didn’t work. So, she started working on the formation with her powers in silence, all the while keeping her attention on the man as he started walking closer and kept telling the story.
"... that night I found out that you carried an otherworldly power within you. Unfortunately, it was asleep at that moment and there seemed to be no answers to how you ended up having those powers in the first place. I tried testing you, but your dormant powers showed no reaction. I tried finding out about your true identity but realized that you were indeed the blood of two mortals. All this made you even more unique."
He reached the edge of the formation and stared at Emily as if she was the most weird yet equally unique creature he had ever encountered.
"You might remember this place. Right?" He suddenly asked and his question made Emily once again take a look at the very familiar walls surrounding her. How could she not remember the place that had haunted her for most of her life?
When she didn’t say anything in response, he continued, "Let me tell you a huge secret. This place... is one of my secret bases."
Emily felt her blood freezing at his words. She opened her mouth to speak but no words came out as her mind just went completely blank in shock.
"The people who captured you, brought you here, and tortured you every single day and night, they were my people. Please don’t be mad about it because my reason behind doing so was a good one. I just wanted to awaken your powers through any means possible."
Emily felt her stomach churning at his words. There was not even a single ounce of regret or guilt in his eyes, instead, they looked as if he was talking about something he was so proud about. This man was a real piece of work and in the worst way possible. She didn’t need her magic to know that his heart was completely black from inside out.
"So, all these years, it has been you who was trying to mess with my life."
