Chapter 287: A Familiar Presence

The soft feathery touch against her cheek caused Emily’s lips to stretch as a beautiful smile bloomed on her lips. The warmth and familiarity of the touch made her body react on its own as she snuggled closer to the person.

She was about to return to the world of dreams when a sudden realization hit her, making her eyes fly open immediately. She sat up on her bed and looked around the room only to find that no one was there except for her.

Her eyes landed on the clock on her bedside table and she noticed that it was barely a couple of minutes past midnight. Letting out a small sigh, she settled her back against the headboard of the bed as her thoughts returned to the feeling that had woken her up in the very first place.

It was so weird. That touch and warmth felt too real and familiar for it to be just a dream. But there was no one there beside her and as she tried to recall why the touch felt familiar, she couldn’t think of anyone.

Another sigh left her lips this time and it was clear that she was feeling a little bit frustrated. After all, this wasn’t the first time something like this had happened. Ever since she returned from the resort a couple of days ago, she had been experiencing such situations at least one time a day.

She had felt a familiar presence around her on several occasions while she was in the company, while she was in her car heading somewhere, while she was spending time with her family, and especially she was sleeping all alone in her bedroom. However, not even once did she find anyone and while she kept feeling that the presence was familiar, she couldn’t relate it to anyone she knew or had known.

Her attention was pulled out of her thoughts when she heard a knock on her bedroom door. "You can come in." She announced when she realized that it was Daniel.

Seeing her brother entering the room with a warm smile on his lips made her relax and forgot about other things for the time being.

"What happened? Why are you still awake?" Daniel asked as he came closer to the bed before taking a seat beside her. His emerald eyes were looking at her with worry and confusion painted in them.

Instead of replying immediately, Emily threw her arms around her brother and snuggled into his warm embrace, and Daniel immediately welcomed her as he engulfed her in his embrace. "Sorellina, what’s going on? You seem tensed and tired."

Emily remained silent for a few minutes as she tried to collect her thoughts. She wasn’t sure exactly how should she answer his questions. After a while, she finally spoke, "These days, I’m no longer feeling as energetic as before. Maybe I’m just tired and need more rest..."

"And?" Daniel pressured as he noticed that there was something else she wanted to say but was hesitating.

"... I keep feeling like I have lost something... something really important," Emily confessed, her voice coming out in a whisper and she felt her eyes becoming heavy as unshed tears filled them. She had finally said it out loud. "I keep feeling like that... but couldn’t think of anything."

Daniel tightened his arms around his little sister as he contemplated how to answer her. All of them had received strict orders from Domenic to not mention Shadow in front of Emily for the time being. Bianca even cast a spell on everyone to make sure that they won’t end up mentioning Shadow by mistake.

None of them had any idea about what was going on and where Shadow had disappeared ever since the resort trip and seeing the condition of his sister, Daniel was only getting more worried. He had to talk with Domenic to find out about the situation.

"I... I..." He tried speaking but wasn’t sure what to say, which made him let out a sigh of frustration. "I don’t even know how to comfort you." He sounded disappointed in himself.

Emily turned her face to look at her brother as she smiled softly at him. "You being here is already enough. You all are my comfort zone."

Daniel returned her smile as he placed a soft kiss against her temple and squeeze her lightly with his strong arms.

"How about you? Is there something you would like to share with me?" Emily asked while trying to change the topic.

At first, it seemed like Daniel was going to deny but then he changed his mind. Probably because he too wanted to distract her.

"It’s more like... someone I want you to meet. Probably not now but... definitely soon. I’m sure you will like them too." Daniel seemed both shy and hesitant as he spoke.

The smile on Emily’s lips stretched into a bigger one as she noticed the light that was filling her brother’s eyes as he talked.

"I’m happy to see that you have finally found someone and I’ll waiting impatiently to meet Annika and Claire," Emily stated with a smile and noticed the surprise that filled Daniel’s eyes immediately.

"How...?" He didn’t finish the question because there was no need to.

"Shane saw you guys at the hospital and then there was Sam too to spill beans. Other than that, I also heard about the dinner date you guys had last Sunday." Emily didn’t hide about her findings and confessed everything about the research that she had done in the past couple of days.

Daniel let out a small sigh before speaking, "I really hope that I’ll be able to introduce them to you all officially one day. But at the moment, I still have to work hard to win their trust and love."

Emily squeezed her brother’s hand lightly as she promised, "You will, trust me on that. I’m not saying it just because you are my brother, I actually mean it - you are that man every woman wants as her life partner."
