Chapter 261: Sudden Change in Plans

Emily was surprised to hear the wolf’s voice in her mind. And even though it was her first time hearing that voice, she immediately knew that it belonged to the wolf.

"Do you think I’m beautiful?" She asked as she tapped her index finger against its nose playfully. She could tell that it wasn’t pointing towards her appearance when it called her beautiful and that’s why she wanted to hear more of its thoughts.

’You are beautiful inside out, and strong too. Maybe not too strong physically but you are definitely very strong mentally and emotionally. You are one of the strongest people I’ve ever encountered.’ The wolf replied honestly.

Emily couldn’t even react on time as she stared at the wolf in surprise. Getting a compliment from Kaiden’s wolf was really special to her. There was something in its eyes as it looked at her and also in its tone which made her believe that every word it just said was sincere.

"Thank you." She thanked it with a warm and beautiful smile playing on her lips. Remembering something, she asked curiously, "How am I able to hear your voice in my head?"

Even the mind link between Kaiden and her couldn’t work considering she wasn’t a wolf like him and neither had they completed their bond yet. That’s why she found it surprising when she heard the wolf’s voice clearly in her head.

’It’s a wolf thing, and you are special, unlike others. After all, we have a direct and close relation... a deep one. I can hear your thoughts if you can allow it and I can also let you hear my thoughts.’’ The wolf replied to her question.

Emily immediately understood the meaning behind the wolf’s words. Her bond with Kaiden created a special and unique connection between her and his wolf. It’s almost like the wolf belonged to her just as much as it belonged to Kaiden.

She had only felt this warm and familiar feeling with her spirit beasts and Shadow’s lion in all these years. Now, Kaiden’s wolf was a new addition to the list.

She hurriedly glanced at her wristwatch and noticed that she still had over an hour left before she would need to return to the Alessandro mansion. It was more than enough time for her to spend with the wolf and build a connection with it.

She turned her attention back at the wolf as she spoke with a soft smile playing on her lips. "Maybe it’s weird to say but you sound way mature than Kaiden. Why don’t you teach him to be less childish?"

She could already picture Kaiden’s unhappy face that he would make after hearing what she had just told the wolf. This made her wonder if he could listen to the conversation between her and his wolf.

’He only acts childishly when it comes to you. While it’s true that he’s far behind when compared to me, he’s not really that bad.’ The wolf responded as it tried to save Kaiden’s face.

Emily arched her eyebrows in surprise as she looked at the wolf with an impressed look on her face. "I thought you will be my partner in crime when it will come to out shadow Kaiden. But it looks like I was wrong."

The wolf was quick to rub its head against her shoulder as if it was trying to tell her not to tease it like that. Emily chuckled in response as she softly patted its head.

"How about you give me a minute to collect my phone and then we can sit together next to those huge glass windows while watching the night view of the city?" She suggested and watched the wolf immediately nodding its head in approval.

Giving its head a soft rub, she headed to pick up her phone, and after ending the video that definitely needed some editing, she collected a soft but thick rug along with some pillows from the storeroom cabinet and hurriedly returned to the living room where the wolf was still waiting for her.

"Let me arrange them quickly." She told the wolf as she busied herself in organizing the rug and the pillows. It didn’t take too long before both she and the wolf were comfortably sitting on the rug while facing the floor-to-ceiling glass windows that presented the beautiful night view of the city.

’I’m sorry that I can’t be of too much help.’ The wolf suddenly spoke and it made Emily turn her attention to it.

She smiled warmly and couldn’t stop herself from once again rubbing its head. Besides, the way it closed its eyes and leaned into her touch made it pretty clear how much it was enjoying the affection that it was receiving.

"Don’t say that. Your presence alone is enough. I’m really happy that we finally got to meet after all this time. What about you?" She asked as she continued to run her fingers through its soft and silky hair around the neck.

In response to her question, the wolf just brushed its face against her cheek, making Emily chuckled as she wrapped her other hand around its neck and planted a soft kiss on its head.

The wolf gave her cheek one last rub with its head before it stepped back and spoke. ’Your spirit beasts, they are ready to evolve. It’s time for them to take over their duties.’

"Huh?" Emily was taken by surprise as she failed to wrap her mind around what the wolf just said about her spirit animals. "You mean...?"

The wolf pointed at the mark on her wrist before replying to her question. ’It’s your friend. He’s heading here as it’s finally time to fuse the elemental balls with your spirit animals.’

Emily remained silent for a while as she tried to understand exactly what was going on. "Shadow? Is he here?" She asked while looking around as if to see the man walking out a portal or something though he rarely used such powerful magic around her.

’Not yet... But he’s on his way to here. He’s coming because the right time has appeared.’ The wolf answered.

"You can read his mind too?" Emily asked curiously, surprised to know that the wolf knew exactly why Shadow was coming there all of a sudden.

The wolf shook its head while replying. ’He’s way too powerful for me to get anywhere near his thoughts. I only know about the reason for his sudden visit because he just told me.’

Emily wasn’t truly surprised by the answer. After all these years, the one that she had realized about Shadow was that he’s the most powerful being living on the entire planet. And there were even rumors saying that his only enemy was he himself, that nothing or no one else could take him down but him. And she believed that the latter was the truth.

"So, he’s talking to you..." She stated as she once again looked around the room. She couldn’t tell why he suddenly decided to do the fusion as he previously told her that they would need to wait till the full moon and there are still a few days left for the full moon.

’He will be here in a minute or two.’ The wolf told her when it noticed her looking around the apartment.

"Oh..." Emily wasn’t sure what to do at this point. She finally got the chance to spend some time with Kaiden’s wolf but it seemed like she got excited too early.

"Are you going back now?" She asked after a few seconds of silence.

The wolf nodded its head in affirmative. ’I will need to leave as he’s trying to contact Kaiden. It seems like he wants to talk to Kaiden. But before leaving, I have to say a few words to him.’

Emily was about to ask what it wanted to talk about with Shadow but didn’t get the chance as her attention was pulled towards the man who suddenly appeared in the living room.

The gust of wind that arrived with him told her that instead of teleportation, he had used his vampire speed to travel the long distance between the Alessandro mansion and Kaiden’s apartment.

His eyes immediately landed... on the wolf!

To Emily’s complete surprise, for the first time in all these years, his gaze didn’t fall on her as soon as he appeared in the room. Instead, the first one he noticed was the Kaiden’s wolf and she saw an unexplainable expression taking over his face.

She silently watched Shadow and the wolf staring at each other, and the more she watched them, the more she became curious to know what was going on.
