The Bodyguard King's CEO Wife-Chapter 1314: Shadow People
"Take a look at this Main Altar, situated in the middle of the valley, surrounded by wooded highlands. It seems like a place that’s easy to set an ambush. If we position our people well nearby, even if the target is a Main God, it wouldn’t be too difficult to handle," Ye Shikai said, suddenly showing an extremely fearful expression, as if this scene had occurred before.
Indeed, the Three Temples once lured Zeus into a ruinous camp in the valley, taking advantage of his weakened defenses. They attacked him en masse, exploiting time, terrain, and unity, making it difficult for even a master like Zeus to escape death.
Could it be... Aphrodite wants to use the same method to ambush them at the Main Altar’s edge? If that’s the case, the reason for Athena’s absence might be that she has fallen victim to Aphrodite. After all, Athena is formidable, and, most importantly, she has repeatedly saved Ye Shikai in the most dangerous of times.
Therefore, if Aphrodite really plans to act at the Main Altar, secretly eliminating Athena before the Main God Conference would be a necessary prerequisite.
But where does Aphrodite get the manpower? Among the ten present, excluding Hermes, the "Divine Envoy" who never participates in disputes between the gods, and Emily, who previously declared neutrality, subtract Ye Shikai, Ji Qian, and Wang Kai, leaving five Main Gods. However, not every Main God is "highly skilled in martial arts," and Ye Shikai has three Netherworld Palace warriors and twenty Hidden Guards behind him. Even if these five Main Gods unite, they are not a match for the Three Temples.
Could Aphrodite have ambushed people on the periphery? That doesn’t make sense either. Each Main God only brought a few personal guards. Where did so many people come from?
The only possibility is that Aphrodite has recruited many experts from the Dark List to blend in when the ruins opened. But according to the usual practices at the Main God Conference, this is not allowed during the conference.
Ye Shikai shook his head. Aphrodite is a treacherous woman. She wouldn’t care about such ephemeral practices. If she really wanted to act, she could play both openly and covertly, rendering those rules useless.
"Qian, be extremely careful. I feel there’s an ambush set up here. Let’s find an opportunity and leave quickly," Ye Shikai whispered to Ji Qian while Wang Kai and Aphrodite verbally sparred.
"Really? But I don’t sense anything unusual around here," Ji Qian said, looking at the surrounding foliage. Apart from the rustling of the wind, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
"Masters truly skilled in ambush can conceal their presence within mountains and forests. This is not a place to stay long," Ye Shikai said, glancing at his mechanical watch. Less than two hours remained until nightfall.
"Master, shall I take a few brothers to check around?" Nightmare asked softly.
"Alright, keep your movements small and try not to make any noise. If there is danger, signal immediately," Ye Shikai nodded. He knew Aphrodite was a woman with deep schemes. If she had indeed set an ambush, it wasn’t something easily avoided.
"Ha-ha, you might as well abandon any other plans," suddenly said Aphrodite, standing up from the stone chair. All eyes turned towards her.
"What’s the matter, Hades? There’s no need to be so surprised," Aphrodite said with a faint smile, making chills run down everyone’s spines.
Under everyone’s gaze, Aphrodite pulled a remote from her pocket and pressed the button on it.
Rumble, rumble.
Everyone felt the ground trembling beneath their feet, akin to an earthquake. However... this couldn’t be an earthquake.
They stood up and looked down the mountain, seeing dust billowing. When it settled, the sight before them left everyone shocked.
The road up the mountain had completely vanished, turning the Main Altar into a sheer cliff edge. The retreat was gone, leaving only a "ten-thousand-foot precipice" below.
"What," Ye Shikai turned his head sharply, realizing the remote was for a bomb. The narrow mountain path to the Main Altar didn’t require much explosive to destroy it. Ye Shikai was filled with regret. He’d been careless. In front lay the valley, and the retreat had turned into a cliff. The Main Altar had truly become a desperate situation...
Seeing this, Emily couldn’t help but curse at Aphrodite. Nobody expected the Main God Conference would turn out like this, and now it had become a dire spot where everyone might perish together.
"Emily, had you accepted my invitation earlier, you wouldn’t be in such a dire state now. This is all your own doing," Aphrodite said coldly. Hermes was among those who intended to remain uninvolved. However, in the Underworld, such a thing never existed.
"Damn," Emily angrily drew her bow and shot an arrow at Aphrodite.
Bam.
Doris swiftly moved beside Aphrodite, brandishing her trident to deflect the arrow.
"What," Emily’s face tightened as she stared intently at the two women before her.
"Doris has long been under her influence," Ye Shikai said calmly. Seeing the situation, it was clear the Three Temples wouldn’t avoid a fight. Ji Qian turned to look at him, worried not about others, but about Ye Shikai. He was now without Inner Strength and was Aphrodite’s "key target." If a fight started, ensuring his safety would be challenging.
"Protect the Netherworld King," Nightmare commanded, as twenty Hidden Guards closed ranks around Ye Shikai.
"You sly devil, you dared to trick me!" Wang Kai, known for his hot temper, couldn’t swallow the insult and would rather die fighting than endure it.
"Attack," Aphrodite ordered. Suddenly, many figures in black emerged from the trees as if they appeared out of thin air, shocking everyone.
"Shadow People," Hermes exclaimed loudly. "I never thought Aphrodite would have recruited the Shadow People."
"What are Shadow People?" Even though Wang Kai loved to fight, his curiosity was piqued by the people seemingly appearing from air.
"An extremely secretive organization within the Underworld that even many Main Gods aren’t aware of," Hermes, being an "intelligence peddler," knew many unknown secrets. To be honest, no one in the Three Temples had heard of the "Shadow Corps," even Ji Qian, with her vast knowledge, had not anticipated it. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
"They cultivate a special technique that allows them to hide anywhere and even survive in the deep sea. They are like shadows, unseen in the dark, only revealing themselves in the sunlight," he explained.
