Chapter 88: kill part one

"Can I meet you tonight?" Maya texted Dalton.

Dalton immediately responded, saying he would be waiting for her at home.

Maya’s heart was filled with tremendous joy. She can’t wait to see him.

"Clear your boss’s schedule for tomorrow," Maya says to Haven as they eat brunch at the restaurant during Maya’s break. She has been hanging out with her friends frequently lately; it could be very lonely if she did not have her friends during this period of being separated from Dalton.

Haven chirped. "Finally! After a long month, Mr. Black will be less grumpy at the office."

"So you guys took a break from your relationship that’s why you have all these free time to hang out with us?" Natalia expressed dismay.

"So I am assuming you guys had a big fight. What caused it?" Laura asked.

"Uhh... my break has ended." Maya bolted back to the kitchen, dodging Laura’s question.

Maya left the restaurant at sunset, taking the night off. She will be making dinner for Dalton and his brothers tonight.

She also moved her day off from next Thursday to Saturday, which is tomorrow, to spend time with Dalton.

When Maya’s truck pulled into the driveway of Dalton’s mansion, nostalgia struck her.

"I’m Home!" She exclaimed enthusiastically.

Maya burst open the door and stepped out of the car.

"Welcome home, Queen." River rushed towards Maya and enveloped her in a bear hug, nearly knocking her to the ground. freeweɓnovel-cøm

River pulled away, allowing his twin to hug her.

Despite Oliver’s light hug, Maya was still woozy from River’s hugs.

"One full month without your food! Look at how skinny I have become. I have been starving." River whines.

Maya let out a pouting laugh. "Poor you; I am back. "You will start gaining weight."

"Hope you didn’t forget to take your meds," Oliver asked.

"I didn’t." She is not going to forget her meds; she is relying on them for the rest of her life. Her traumatic brain injury left her with permanent side effects.

"No bags?" River took a glance at the back seat.

Maya shook her head. She took no clothes with her, only sending Haven over to get her meds.

She has been wearing Natalia’s clothes.

"Where is Dalton?" Maya asked.

"In his r... "

Maya didn’t let him land, and she took on her heels, running inside.

She yanked his door open. Her face dropped. His room was empty. But her face lit up when she felt a possessive arm wrap around her waist.

"Dalton," she whispered as his fingers curved around her hip and her body melted into his.

Dalton spun her around to face him. He cupped her face. "Are you real?" His eyes were clouded with disbelief.

"Yes, I’m real." Maya leaned into his touch, longing.

"You came back home to me as promised." He wrapped his arms around her. Hugging her tightly.

Maya’s head rested on his chest, and she felt at home. Because he is home.

"Never do this to us again. The pain of being separated from you was excruciating." He lets out a breath, his voice filled with agony.

"I’m sorry. I went through all the stages and am now at the acceptance stage. And I don’t think you are a monster or evil.".

"I know," Dalton said, stroking her long black hair and kissing the top of her head.

Maya nudged her face into his chest. She is falling in love with his cologne.

They remain this way for a long time. Dalton didn’t want to let her go.

"uhh... I need to go cook dinner." Maya drew away

"No need; I am taking you out to dinner," Dalton says as he tangled their fingers.

"Oh, wow. Where are you taking me?"

"Remember my grandfather’s restaurant in Hell Kitchen that I told you about? We are going there tonight."

. "Oh my God, that is in New York... oh right, I forgot you have a private jet." She grins.

"Let me go get ready." She gave Dalton a kiss and dashed out the door, excited.

When Maya entered, she found a beautiful cocktail dress on her bed. She raved through her closet until she found the perfect heels to go with it.

She had finished dressing and was about to apply lipstick when her phone rang.

She ignored it, focusing on applying the final touch to her makeup.

The phone rang yet again. Maya dropped her lipstick and picked up her phone from the bed. She fumbled with the phone in a hurry to answer it, almost dropping it. There was no caller ID; the number was unknown.

She was hesitant to respond, but out of courtesy, she quickly flipped the phone screen to answer.

Maya tugged the phone against her ear. "Hello?"

"Maya DeLuca, how much do you love your friends?" A cold, deep man’s voice said at the other end of the line, sending chilly jolts down her spine.

"What...who are you?"

"I hate when people answer my question with another question. "How much do you love your friends?" His voice was harsh and brutish.

Could this be a prank call?

"The longer you take to respond to my question, the closer your friends are to death."

Maya’s adrenaline levels skyrocketed, and she almost dropped the phone.

"My- My- friends," she said, her voice shaking with fear.

"Who are you—Y-You?"

"You need convincing. I will send you a video." He hung up.

Maya’s phone buzzed. A notification appeared on the screen.

She tapped on it.

Maya freezes. Her complexion turned pale, blanched white. She was horrified as she watched Haven, Natalia, and Laura pass out in a living room, with a man in a mask pointing a gun at them.

The man called again and Maya answered.

"No." She cried. "What happened to them?"

"They are unconscious, but they will die if you don’t do what I say. And stop shouting."

She toned down her voice. "Pease, don’t kill my friends, I will do whatever you want" The thoughts of losing her friends hit her hard, causing a sharp pain to surge through her heart.

"You will do whatever it takes to save your friends?." His voice sounded icy calm.

"Yes, Yes!"

"You have only 20 minutes to kill Dalton Black or your friends will die."
