Chapter 85: A visit to Venus City

It has been two weeks since the gala party, and Maya has yet to contact Dalton as promised. She kept stalling. She misses him so much, but whenever she makes a move to contact him, the disturbing image of Mr. Wilson being murdered haunts her, causing her to recoil and never want to see Dalton again.

When Dalton confided in her about killing a man when he was ten years old to save himself and Aiden from their captors, her reaction was subtle, but why can’t she come to terms with the second murder?

Because you didn’t witness him killing the first time. A voice in her head said.

Oh, life has been miserable without Dalton. But she can not be with him because she is too fragile; after all the horrors she has seen in her life, she thought she was tough and would be able to cope with this, but she can’t. She was mentally weak.

Maya cleared her mind and looked ahead. She was standing in front of the Venus City Gentlemen’s Club. After much thought, she decided to confront the new owner and ask him why he made her a part-owner without her consent.

"Let’s get it over with. " Maya muttered to herself, gathered her courage, and walked in. Her path was obstructed by two big bouncers whom she did not recognize. They examined her face and moved away, allowing her to enter without saying anything.

"Strange," Maya muttered. She expected to have a difficult time getting in, but it appears that the owner has given her free access.

The atmosphere felt unfamiliar to her. Everything is different, from the interior to the employees. The club now has a darker, more forbidden vibe. And the girls were more naked than before.

Maya looked around, lost and unsure of where to go, even though this was her former workplace.

"Fredrick Hathaway’s old office," Maya said to herself. She gulped hard. Painful memories of being scolded and hit by her stepfather flooded her mind. Panic overtook her, and she felt like she was experiencing PTSD.

Her stepfather has died; he can no longer harm her. She shook off the terror and entered the elevator, which took her to the last floor, where the office was located.

"Here we go!" Maya did a short breathing exercise when she got to the door.

She knocked twice before a grumpy female voice that she vaguely recognized told her to come in.

Maya twisted the doorknob and entered.

"What are you doing here, bitch?!"

Maya flinched and tilted her head towards the desk. She exclaimed in surprise. "Charlotte shouldn’t you be in jail????"

Charlotte snorted. "Awww, look at your face. You look terrified. Unfortunately for you, after four days, a good Samaritan bailed me out."

Maya cursed under her breath. She was bailed out much sooner than expected, just as she had predicted.

"You think you have Dalton, but you have no idea what is coming." Charlotte laughed sinisterly. "Vico will soon strike, and your boring love story with Dalton will come to an end."

Maya’s breath seized for a few seconds. "Vico??"

"Yes, he was the one who billed me out and made me the manager of this club," Charlotte explains.

"Vico is the owner?" Maya exclaimed. That explains a lot of things. What if Venus City belonged to Vico all along and Fredrick Hathaway was just a hoax owner?

"And Vico is the same person who will assist me in making Dalton mine," Charlotte smirked.

And Maya thought Charlotte wouldn’t get any more callous. She is conspiring with the man who killed Dalton’s father and kidnapped him.

Maya scowled at her. "You know who Vico is, right?"

Charlotte simply shrugged. "I don’t care about who I will use to make Dalton mine."

"Do you think Dalton will let you be in his life if he knows you are conspiring with Vico?"

Charlotte laughed so hard that Maya became concerned.

"Darling, I should rather ask you this. Do you think Dalton will be happy that you are now Vico’s business partner? Are you not a part owner of this club?"

Maya’s face rigidified as if she had been hit with cold water. "I... don’t... understand why he made me a part owner. I don’t know that man."

"Oh, please, you certainly do. More than you think. When Dalton learns about this and the other things. It’s game over." Charlotte smirked viciously.

"Which other thing?" Maya inquired, her heart racing.

"Oh, I want to tell you. But Vico said it was not the right time. My lips are sealed." Charlotte clipped her lips together.

Maya was losing it inside, but she kept her cool, not letting Charlotte see how upset she was.

"Well then, tell Vico that I am not interested in this partnership. And he should stop sending me money from the club’s profits. ! do not need it."

Maya rushed out. She needs to speak with Dalton about Vico.

Dalton stood in the underground garage of his company building, clutching his phone, his heart crashing

It is been two weeks since the gala party, and Maya has broken her promise. She hasn’t called.

"Frà," Marcello said, placing his arm around Dalton’s neck. They have been hanging out in the office practically the whole day.

"Should I call?" Dalton is trying to respect Maya’s wishes, but oh God, he misses her; his life has felt so empty without her these past two weeks. How will he survive another week without seeing her face?

"Don’t; you will come across as an obsessive boyfriend. She is traumatized. Give her some more time. She will come around," Marcello advised.

Dalton reluctantly slides the phone back into his pocket.

"Frà, you need to hit the gym to work off your depression so Maya will return to a hotter version of you," Marcello suggested.

"Hmm." Dalton hums. He gyms, but not as intensely as his brothers or Marcello. He just follows a regular fitness routine

"Okay, I will use the gym at your house," Dalton said. He has a gym inside his mansion. But home is where he least wants to be. He feels Maya’s presence in every room in his house and is haunted by her illusions. He will go insane if he spends one second in there.

"I got you," Marcello said as he unlocked his car and opened the door, only to have a body bag roll out of the seat, stumbling to the floor.

"Fuck! What is that? Did Aiden kill someone?" Marcello thought aloud.

Dalton shook his head. "Aiden is out of town. And he doesn’t kill women." Women and children are off limits. Aiden has attempted to kill some women, but Dalton stopped him; he ensured Aiden never crossed that line.

Marcello squats down and opens the body bag’s zipper, revealing a woman’s lifeless face.

"You know her?"

"Yes, Mrs. Wilson." Dalton discloses her identity.

"Oh, there is a note attached to the body."

Marcello read it aloud. "You are welcome, Dalton. "

"Who is this from?" ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

Dalton tightened his fists, which were buried in his pocket. "My new nemesis, or new villain in the story. Or call him by his real name, Vico."

The moment Marcello revealed Vico was Venus City’s new owner, it clicked to Dalton. His new nemesis is also Vico.

What an irony! Vico refers to himself as the "new Villain," even though he was responsible for the tragedy that struck his family years ago. He has been the ultimate villain since the beginning.

Marcello placed the body in the trunk of the car. "Why would Vico kill this woman for you?"

"He did not kill this woman for me. He did it for Maya. For bizarre reasons, he is obsessed with Maya." And Dalton knows the reason, deep down. He is not ready to utter it.

If the reason is reveals , he wonders if he will ever put that diamond ring on Maya’s finger.
