Chapter 384: Chapter 384 Empress Dowager 1_1

Huang’s mother chased after him, shouting angrily, "Xiaojue, if you leave today, you’re no longer my son."

Huang Xiaojue turned back to look at his mother, without uttering a single word.

His mother didn’t back down. "My son, I’ve always gone along with whatever you wanted since you were little, but not this time. If you want to marry Yan Xixi, it’ll have to be over my dead body."

Father Huang saw his son’s unusually exhausted expression and spoke sternly, "Old woman, what nonsense are you spouting now? Our son knows how to handle his own affairs."

Huang Xiaojue stood still, watching his parents. Suddenly, they felt alien to him. He had always believed that his parents loved him above all else, that even their stubbornness was for his own good. But now, a sense of unprecedented resentment rose from the bottom of his heart. However, he didn’t say anything. He just strode out the door.

The door slammed shut. Just as his mother tried to say something more, his father finally lost his temper. "Old woman, can’t you give it a rest? Our son is already under a lot of pressure at work. Are you trying to drive him to his death? What good would that do you?"

Huang’s mother retorted angrily, "How am I pressuring him? I’m doing it for his own good."

"Doesn’t he know what’s good for him? Are you an Immortal? What makes you think you have the right to control someone else’s fate? I’ve been putting up with you for a long time, but you’ve only gotten worse."

His mother snorted coldly, turned, and stormed into her bedroom, slamming the door hard behind her.

「Late that night.」

His car was parked by the river embankment. Huang Xiaojue rolled down the window, and a gust of wind blew in, carrying the last chill of spring.

He got out of the car and stared at the dim lights reflecting like scales on the river’s waves. He reached for his phone, intending to dial a familiar number, but paused after entering it.

After a moment, he put his phone back. It was already past three in the morning. Xixi must be asleep by now.

This was the second time he had found himself in such a position. Years ago, he had almost lost everything due to a moment of indecision.

He took out his wallet and opened it to see a small photo: it was a snapshot from when they first met. The simple photograph seemed to glow with the radiance of the young girl’s flower-like face. Her bright eyes carried a light smile. Even separated by the layer of leather, they seemed to twinkle and speak, lively and captivating.

Then there was the fine cashmere scarf around his neck. This season didn’t really require scarves, but on a chilled spring night like this, it was perfect. Xixi had knitted it herself. It was incredibly thin and soft. The feel of the cashmere was so much more comfortable than rough yarn. Their comfort was worlds apart.

Just then, his phone chimed with a message notification. Surprisingly, it was a voice message. Her voice was soft, unexpectedly gentle, as she said, "Xiaojue, did your mother scold you again? I knew it. You always suffer because of me... Xiaojue, this must be so hard on you..."

He chuckled. Suddenly, nothing else mattered.

"Xixi, I love you."

She perhaps hadn’t expected him to be awake so late. After a moment’s hesitation, she asked, "Xiaojue, why aren’t you asleep yet?"

He simply dialed her number. When he heard her "Hello?" he laughed, his voice unusually soft as he said, "Xixi, I love you."

She giggled back, "Silly."

"Xixi, how about we elope and marry?"

"Sounds good, where do you want to go?"

"What about Tahiti?"
