Chapter 674: Let’s Not Be Friends

"Heck, no! That wasn’t me!"

Scarlet narrowed her eyes and folded her arms beneath her chest. As for Haji—who had no idea why the two of them were even here—he knitted his brows in confusion.

Chuck clicked his tongue and ruffled his hair irritably. "I wanted to shoot him, alright? Even though I knew that fall would kill him, and that he was just clinging to life stubbornly instead of taking his last breath, I didn’t."

"Wait, wait." Haji scratched his wet hair, still looking confused.

When the two arrived, he had been about to leave the bathroom. He’d overheard everything—how Chuck had provided cover for everyone, including him. Of course, that shocked Haji, because he did remember someone shooting Jarvis’s pistol, something that had increased his chances of survival. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

It surprised him that Chuck was actually a good sniper. Honestly, Haji had always thought the guy was only good at infuriating people.

The revelation was impressive, but this wasn’t the time to dwell on it.

"So," Haji said, "you wanted to shoot Jarvis, but didn’t?"

Chuck nodded.

"Then who shot him?"

Scarlet arched a brow and fixed her gaze on Chuck. He scratched the back of his head, recalling the memory.

"Someone else—"

Before he could finish, Scarlet grabbed him by the collar and shook him.

"Chuck, I am not in the mood to play guessing games," she said through gritted teeth. "Did you see who it was?"

Chuck looked away, his expression twisted. "I don’t know who it was, but I remember someone approaching Jarvis while you two were recovering after this ugly duckling’s near-death fall."

"I didn’t think it was that important because the person was wearing the same gear as the other mercenaries," he clicked his tongue irritably. "I just assumed she had a grudge against her boss. That guy looked like a horrible leader, after all."

"She?" Scarlet repeated.

Chuck nodded. "Yeah. It was a girl!"

"Do you remember her face?" Scarlet asked, cutting him off before he could say more.

Chuck pursed his lips, thinking for a moment. "Well... I guess I do—"

Before he could finish, Scarlet yanked down his collar and dragged him out of the quarters.

As she did, she grabbed the shirt draped nearby and tossed it toward Haji.

"Get dressed quickly, then follow me."

Haji caught the shirt and stared at her in confusion. "Where are you taking him?"

"This guy has a terrible memory," she replied coldly, "so I’m making him get a composite sketch done while it’s still fresh." She paused by the door and looked back. "Follow us once you’re dressed. You lived here, so you might know who it was."

With that, Scarlet dragged Chuck by the collar like a pet. "Let’s go."

"Wait—hey! You’re hurting me!" Chuck protested, but his pleas fell on deaf ears.

Haji stood there, staring at the door left ajar. Chuck’s voice echoed faintly from outside before fading away.

He stepped forward and closed the door, lowering his gaze as his thoughts drifted.

"That guy..." he muttered, shaking his head. "I don’t know if I’m impressed or pissed that he thought this information wasn’t important."

Little did Haji know, the information Chuck held—something only he knew—was far more significant than anyone realized.

Meanwhile, somewhere in the governor’s residence...

"This is unexpected..." Henrik stood by the window of Atlas’s temporary office, gazing outside. "The Order truly moves unlike any other. Not only did you overtake Ravah overnight, but you put it in order far faster than I anticipated."

Atlas had just entered the room. He paused, eyes drifting toward the man with shining blond hair by the window. When Henrik turned to look at him, his striking blue eyes shimmered as his lips curved into a smile.

"And I understand why you want me to fund this entire disaster," Henrik continued. "However, it’s impossible for me to pour that much money into a territory that isn’t mine. I can aid it, just as I promised—along with providing additional resources as per our initial agreement."

Atlas didn’t answer. He walked in, sat down on the lone armchair, placed a folder on the table, and snapped his gaze up.

"I’m not asking for a favor," he said coldly. "Before you say anything else, read the file."

Henrik chuckled as he took the seat across from him. "Atlas Zorken... I’m still unsure whether I like you or not," he hummed, picking up the folder. "I admire your work ethic and how you revived the Zorken family from total annihilation. But I truly, deeply, and profoundly dislike the way you speak to me as if I were one of your subordinates."

He paused, meeting Atlas’s eyes, then smiled.

"I’d rather you speak to me casually—as a friend," he said. "We’re around the same age. Same as the current head priest of the Divine Circle. But unlike him, we actually have the chance to be friends."

As expected, Atlas didn’t indulge Henrik’s rambling. He watched silently as Henrik opened the file and skimmed through it.

The smirk on Henrik’s face slowly faded.

"Not a favor," Atlas said calmly as Henrik looked up. "You’ll be sending aid and covering all expenses until Ravah recovers—on top of the resources you’re already donating to the Order’s research."

Atlas’s eyes sharpened. "Otherwise, what’s in that file is sufficient grounds for the Order to annihilate the House of Bellemonte and seize everything under your name by force. Whether you were directly involved or not, you breached the agreement first."

"Henrik Bellemonte." Atlas leaned forward, resting his arm on his thigh. "You didn’t want to rescue your men. You only wanted to save one—your son. And your answer today will determine whether he joins the list of casualties, dies at the hands of your wife, or remains alive."

Henrik inhaled deeply, resting the folder on his lap. The smile was gone as he looked at Atlas sharply.

"Haha..." he laughed, leaning back. "Atlas, forget that I mentioned being friends. Let’s not be friends. You just reminded me why I don’t like you in the first place."

Back to Haji and Scarlet...

After Scarlet dragged Chuck to someone capable of creating a composite sketch, she forced him to recall every detail he could remember from that night. It took over an hour before the artist finished.

"Does she look like this?" the artist asked, showing Chuck the sketch.

Chuck leaned over the table and studied it. "She was wearing a hat, but yeah... that’s her."

"Let me see." Scarlet, who had been waiting in the corner, stepped closer. As soon as she took the sketch, her brows knitted.

"Let’s see," Haji murmured, approaching her side. "Let’s hope, I know her—"

His voice trailed off the moment he saw the drawing.

In that instant, he didn’t need to hope. Haji knew her. Not just him, Scarlet did too.

"What?" Chuck asked, noticing their reactions. "You know her?"

Scarlet and Haji slowly lifted their eyes to Chuck, then back to the sketch.

"Yeah..." Haji hummed, running his tongue along his inner cheek. "Unfortunately."

Scarlet’s expression hardened as she stared at the image.

"Why is Melissa Young here?"
