Chapter 529: Baby Girl

"BWAHAHA!"

Haji’s laughter echoed thunderously inside the chopper. Everyone stared at him like they were trapped with a deranged man. Among them was Scarlet, who scoffed and glared daggers at him.

She was not in the mood anymore, and hearing Haji laugh as if they were on their way to a beach vacation only irritated her further.

"Baby, you are my best friend from now on!" Haji cackled, giving Baby a thumbs-up. The latter offered a small smile and lowered his head slightly.

Earlier today, Baby had recommended adding one more person to the mission team. In truth, they didn’t need anyone else — their numbers were perfect: not too big, not too small.

Still, an extra hand wasn’t a big deal. Baby rarely requested anything. So when he suggested Chuck — Lola, Atlas, and even Allen had no objection.

The problem was... even though the trio agreed, Baby did not tell Chuck beforehand — just as instructed.

Instead, he went straight to Haji and informed him of the new addition. And like the devil he was, Haji immediately saw the perfect opportunity to bully the bully.

They spiked Chuck’s drink to knock him out early, strong enough to leave him groggy when dragged awake. Thanks to Chuck’s many haters — and the weakest team in the Outer Circle who eagerly aided the prank — they managed to acquire a safe drug from someone in the lab to execute this "wicked" plan befitting an equally wicked man.

Putting Chuck in the same chopper as Lola, Atlas, and Slater was the cherry on top.

"Bwahahaha!" Haji’s laughter grew louder, more gleeful each time he remembered. "At least that guy will finally stop running his damn mouth—hahaha!"

At the back, Pika — the reluctant soldier — gulped. He could see Haji clearly, but even if he couldn’t, the laughter alone was enough to send dread shivering down his spine.

"I don’t think it’s proper to laugh when we’re heading straight to hell," he muttered bitterly, pushing up his glasses as tears pooled at the corners of his eyes. He was getting emotional because, out of everyone here, he was almost certain he would be the first to die if things went south.

Or worse... he might die before things even went wrong.

Pika clasped his hands together, shut his eyes, and whispered quiet prayers. After all, he was never meant to join these kinds of missions. He was only a support personnel! He didn’t even submit his name himself. It had been a prank by his friend. He agreed because he was sure he wouldn’t be picked.

Had he known... DAMN!

Izu, on the other hand, narrowed his eyes at Baby and Haji. He pressed his lips into a thin line as he observed everyone else on board. Each one wore a different expression, so he lowered his head. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

Hah...

He bit his tongue to stop himself from laughing with Haji. Izu was no hypocrite. Chuck had been running his mouth far too much lately. Having him silenced felt good.

Besides, leaving Chuck behind would’ve only given him more time and space to jinx the mission.

Yes... it really did feel nice bullying the bully sometimes.

He smiled for a brief moment before Scarlet’s voice cut through the noise.

"Shut up," she snapped, seated closest to Haji and Baby. "This is a dangerous mission. Your laughter isn’t helping. It’s distracting us from focusing on what actually matters."

Haji’s laughter halted. His eyes slid sideways toward her. He rubbed his chin thoughtfully... and then smirked.

"Sure, baby girl."

Everyone’s breath hitched. Even Baby lowered his head — though unlike the others, he was simply dejected that everyone had been calling people "Baby" lately. It was making him reconsider changing his name, like Atlas suggested.

The others stared at Haji in disbelief, then immediately shifted their attention to Scarlet.

"What..." Scarlet trailed off with a low laugh. Then she fixed her attention back on Haji. "...what did you just call me?"

Haji grinned, still in too good of a mood to let her darkening aura faze him. But before he responded, he narrowed his eyes slightly.

Scarlet raised a brow.

"Be very careful with whatever comes out of your mouth next," she warned. "I will kick you out of this chopper and watch you die."

"Perks of being here are..." Haji hummed, glimmering with mischief as his mouth stretched wider. "I am the madam’s bestie, sweetheart."

The moment those words rolled off his tongue, Scarlet reached for her seat buckle, ready to end this man’s entire bloodline. But as soon as her fingers touched the latch, Baby grabbed it — his large hand enveloping hers — stopping her.

"Let me go..." she hissed, eyes burning. She tugged at the buckle, but Baby held firm. "Baby."

Haji: "Yes~?"

Baby closed his eyes, ignoring that. Clearly, Haji was testing how many lives he had today. And Baby felt partly responsible — he was the one who added Chuck, and he was the reason Haji was hyped like a demon on caffeine.

Scarlet’s furious gaze shifted back to Haji as he giggled like a madman.

"You..." she breathed, tugging the buckle with trembling fingers while Baby tightened his grip. "I’m going to kill him. Let me go."

But Baby didn’t.

The rest in the chopper watched helplessly; Baby holding Scarlet in place, Scarlet trying to fight the restraints, and Haji laughing like an evil gremlin delighted with chaos.

Everyone knew that if Baby let her go — especially before she calmed down — Haji would be flying out of the aircraft with zero protective gear.

The man would absolutely die.

"..." This was not the mood they expected while heading toward their first destination.

Instead of grim silence, the chopper was filled with Haji’s wicked laughter, the repetitive clacking of Scarlet’s buckle, and Baby’s silent prayers.

Izu darted his eyes toward the chaotic trio, unable to stop a tiny smile.

"I guess we’re in good hands," he muttered, loud enough for those near him, including Pika, to hear.

The others either arched a brow or squinted in confusion. Then, slowly, their gazes shifted to the front of the chopper. A few even relaxed their shoulders.

Why?

Because they were heading to one of the most dangerous places on Earth. Yet the man leading them was laughing and teasing Scarlet without an ounce of fear.

It didn’t erase the anxiety lurking at the back of their minds... but it reassured them.

Haji could act carelessly only because he was confident in his knowledge of Ravah.

He was born there — lived there as a vulnerable child — and survived.

What more now that he was grown, skilled, and dangerous?
