The Bigshot's Superstar Wife-Chapter 110: Take a Bite
The grand estate of the Demerin family loomed ahead as the warship docked, its sleek exterior reflecting the golden hues of the setting sun.
Elara felt her stomach tighten as she followed Lawrence down the ramp.
The moment they stepped onto the landing platform, uniformed guards saluted the Major General, their voices crisp with discipline.
But what truly sent a shiver down her spine was the grand double doors of the mansion swinging open, revealing two figures waiting for them.
Lawrence’s mother and father stood at the entrance, their expressions unreadable.
The moment the older woman’s eyes landed on Elara, however, recognition flickered across her face, followed by a gasp.
"You...!" The woman’s voice wavered as she stepped forward, clutching the sides of her embroidered shawl. "You’re the young lady who saved me in the city!"
Elara stiffened, her gaze darting to Lawrence, whose face remained impassive. She had expected some form of introduction, but this?
This was dangerous territory. She could not afford for them to dig too deep into her identity.
Lawrence, ever the soldier, remained calm. "Mother, Father," he said, his voice unwavering. "This is my girlfriend."
Elara choked on air.
His what?
His father raised an eyebrow, giving Lawrence a long, considering look before shifting his gaze to her. "Your girlfriend?"
Elara struggled to keep her face neutral, but her mind was in chaos. How in the world had things escalated to this?
She had barely survived an ambush today, and now she had to pretend to be in love with this man.
Before she could formulate an excuse, Lawrence placed a firm hand on her lower back and guided her forward.
"Yes," he said smoothly. "We’ve been seeing each other for some time now."
His mother clasped her hands together, her expression softening with delight. "Oh, my dear! I didn’t realize I was being rescued by my future daughter-in-law!"
Elara’s lips twitched. "It was… nothing, Madam Demerin."

"Nothing?" The older woman scoffed. "You threw yourself into danger for me! You must truly love my son if you would risk your life like that."
Elara turned her head to shoot Lawrence a deadly glare, only to find his lips slightly quirked in amusement. Oh, he was enjoying this.
She inhaled deeply, deciding to play along just enough to avoid suspicions. "Of course," she said through gritted teeth. "Lawrence means a lot to me."
His father remained skeptical. "I was under the impression that Lawrence had no interest in romantic pursuits. What changed?"
Elara stiffened. What changed? She had no idea!
Lawrence, as if sensing her dilemma, smoothly interjected, "It was love at first sight."
Elara nearly choked. Oh, this man was truly out to kill her.
"Love at first sight?" His father repeated, sounding unimpressed.
His mother, on the other hand, seemed enchanted. "Oh, how romantic! Tell us, dear, how did you two meet?"
Elara shot Lawrence a desperate look. You started this mess. You finish it.
To her horror, he simply nodded at her, a silent Go on.
Oh, he was going to make her suffer.
Elara forced a smile, quickly stringing together a story. "Well… it all started when I... um...when we bumped into each other at a... at a gala!"
"A gala?" His mother clapped her hands together. "How lovely! Go on, dear."
Elara cleared her throat, stealing a glance at Lawrence. He was watching her with an unreadable expression, his arms crossed. He was leaving this entirely up to her.
She swallowed and continued, "I was carrying some food, and, well, Lawrence wasn’t paying attention to where he was going. He bumped into me, and I... uh... accidentally spilled the food all over his uniform."
His mother gasped. "You didn’t!"
"Oh, she did," Lawrence smoothly added, playing along now. "Ruined my entire night."
Elara shot him a glare before quickly covering it with a sweet smile. "Yes, but I made it up to him! I... I offered to dry-clean it for him personally!"
His father narrowed his eyes. "You dry-cleaned a military uniform?"
Elara hesitated. "Uh… no, but I watched over the dry-cleaning process?"
His mother chuckled, clearly delighted by the story, while his father looked unconvinced.
"So you fell in love over a spilled food?" His father asked dryly.
Elara straightened. "Actually, no. What really made me fall for him was…" She trailed off, panicking internally. What was she supposed to say?
Lawrence tilted his head slightly, waiting.
She forced herself to meet his gaze and, before she could stop herself, the words tumbled out. "It was his eyes."
There was a pause.
She blinked, startled by her own answer.
Lawrence, too, seemed momentarily taken aback, before his lips curved into the faintest of smirks. "My eyes?"
Elara forced herself to commit to the lie. She nodded quickly. "Yes! They were so… so sharp and filled with authority! I felt like he could see right through me."
His mother sighed dreamily. "Oh, how romantic!"
His father, however, still looked skeptical.
Lawrence leaned in slightly, his voice lower now, meant only for her ears. "Sharp and filled with authority?"
Elara ground her teeth, whispering back, "I panicked, okay?"
Before he could respond, his mother grabbed her hands. "Well, if my son has finally fallen in love, then we must celebrate! You’re staying for dinner, my dear!"
Elara’s stomach dropped.
His father sighed. "I assume this means you’ll be staying in the estate for a while?"
Lawrence, without hesitation, nodded. "Yes. Elara will be staying here with us."
Elara froze. Excuse me?
Lawrence’s father sighed, rubbing his temples. "I don’t know what nonsense you’re pulling, but fine. Just don’t make a mess of things."
His mother, however, beamed. "I’ll have the guest room prepared right next to Lawrence’s!"
Elara paled.
She turned to Lawrence, who simply patted her on the back, amusement twinkling in his usually cold eyes. "Welcome home, sweetheart."
Elara seriously contemplated kicking him.
Elara clenched her fists, forcing a stiff smile as Lawrence’s mother excitedly led her inside.
The grand estate was warm and elegant, but she barely had time to admire the decor before Lawrence leaned in, whispering, "You’re doing great, sweetheart."
She stomped on his foot.
Lawrence barely flinched, though his smirk deepened.
His mother turned back. "What was that, dear?"
Elara quickly smiled. "Oh, nothing! Just… excited."
Lawrence chuckled, low and amused. "So am I."
Elara gritted her teeth. She had definitely stepped into a disaster.
