The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress-Chapter 22: Praising Him for His Good Looks
Chapter 22: Chapter 22: Praising Him for His Good Looks
Adrian Desmond stared at Sienna Johnson’s graceful figure and laughed. "How dare you tease me! Just wait till I get my hands on you!"
Adrian inherited his mother’s good looks and knew he was attractive from an early age. Women and men alike were drawn to him because of his appearance. If it hadn’t been for his strong fists and ruthless heart, he might have long ago become someone’s pampered favorite. Consequently, Adrian had always detested his own features. However, today, when Sienna praised his looks, Adrian felt a flicker of happiness.
Women like handsome men, and she might not be an exception, right?
For the first time, Adrian felt that being good-looking wasn’t such a bad thing after all.
"...Don’t be afraid; they’re not bad people. Give them your addresses later, and they’ll take you home," Sienna reassured the frightened women.
The women stared at Sienna in shock, unable to process her words for a long moment. Were we actually saved?
"Really?" one of the bolder women asked.
"Yes, it’s true," Sienna smiled, comforting them.
The women knew Sienna was also one of those who had been abducted. They figured the people Sienna brought were there to rescue her, and their own rescue was merely a fortunate consequence. No longer doubting, the women wept with joy, their initial silent tears escalating into loud sobs.
Sienna didn’t stop them, letting them cry their hearts out, just as she had when Adrian rescued her.
Xavier Young stood behind Adrian, his ears ringing. He looked at the group of crying women. "Sixth Master, women are truly troublesome. Please don’t assign me the task of escorting them home. I absolutely detest it when women cry. I’m afraid I’d get so annoyed I might accidentally kill them on the way."
Adrian stated confidently, "You won’t."
"And who says I won’t?"
"Then go on, kill one. Show me."
Xavier was speechless. What he’d said was merely out of momentary frustration. While they weren’t good people, they never killed indiscriminately. The individuals they did kill were either notorious villains or, at the very least, far from innocent.
"Mai, we should get going," Adrian urged.
"Alright."
Adrian arranged for another boat and a different group of men to escort those women home, while he departed with Sienna.
One of the women chased after Sienna. When she caught up, Sienna stopped and said, "I have to go back now. You should head home soon too. Your parents must be missing you terribly."
The woman before her had delicate features; even in such a disheveled state, her beauty was hard to conceal. Among these women, if any had been unattractive, they might have avoided this fate. Beauty truly can be a curse, as the old saying goes.
Wringing her hands nervously, the woman stammered, "I... I don’t have a family..."
"What?" The woman’s voice was so faint that Sienna had to strain her ears to hear.
"I’m an orphan." Her voice grew a little louder. She looked up at Sienna and, mustering her courage, said, "You saved me. C-can I follow you? I can cook, do laundry, and manage housework... And anything else, if you teach me, I can learn it..."
Adrian understood her intent; she was trying to latch onto them. "Technically, I was the one who saved you. If you want to repay someone, it should be me. I don’t need anyone for cooking or laundry, but I could use a woman to warm my bed. Are you still willing to follow me then?" Adrian was testing her. If she dared to show any such inclination, he would not tolerate it.
The woman glared at Adrian, seeing him as no different from the human traffickers. "You never intended to save us! If it weren’t for..." She glanced at Sienna, whom she had heard someone call Mai, and continued, "If it weren’t for Mai’s plea, you would have abandoned us here to fend for ourselves! If I’m to repay kindness, it will be to Mai. What has it got to do with you?"
Adrian retorted angrily, "Do you believe I won’t throw you into the jungle to feed the wolves?"
"I believe you!" the woman looked at Adrian and said sarcastically. "People like you are capable of anything." She was clearly equating Adrian with Charlie Parker.
Adrian turned to Sienna. "I can help the other women, but not this one! Since she’s so tough, let her stay here and fend for herself!"
Sienna ignored Adrian, took the woman’s hand, and asked, "What’s your name?"
"My name is Selena Robertson."
Sienna was overjoyed because their names, Sienna and Selena, sounded so alike. "It seems we’re fated to meet!"
Selena nodded. "Thank you for saving me. Without you, I don’t know where they would have sold me." She wasn’t foolish; she understood what those people intended to do with so many beautiful women they had gathered.
Sienna didn’t agree immediately. Instead, she turned to Adrian, her voice gentle. "Adrian, can I take Selena back with us?"
Adrian was about to refuse, but before he could utter a word, Sienna, pushing her advantage, continued, "If you don’t say anything, I’ll take it as your consent. Selena, let’s go."
Adrian: ...
Xavier watched the exchange with amusement, giggling. Adrian glared at him, his expression displeased. Oblivious to the danger, Xavier said, "Sixth Master, don’t forget, that woman escaped from the island. You have to teach her a proper lesson when you get back. If you let her off so easily, she’ll only become more daring. Who knows what kind of trouble she’ll stir up next... Look, just now, she even dared to make decisions for you!"
Adrian sneered. "You’re getting bolder too, are you? Making decisions for me! She’s my woman, and how I deal with her is none of your business to lecture me about."
"..."
"Xavier, you seem rather idle lately. Why don’t you escort these women back?" Adrian ordered.
"Huh?"
Tatu walked over, patted Xavier on the shoulder, and said, "Watch your mouth! If you can’t control that tongue of yours, be careful, or you’ll answer for it with your own hide."
"Good advice is often hard to hear, but it’s for his own good! I’m only trying to help Sixth Master." Xavier looked at the other men, who remained silent, a hint of disdain in his eyes. "...Why are you all so quiet? Seriously, I didn’t realize you could all be so servile. Sixth Master has always been fair with rewards and punishments. For him to break the rules for a woman... shouldn’t I remind him?"
The others were quite tolerant regarding this matter. In their eyes, women were the weaker sex, like pets to be indulged.
"Men and women are different!" Maxwell Young instructed his foolish younger brother. "Women are meant to be pampered."
Xavier felt indignant on behalf of men everywhere. "Why? Just because she’s beautiful? You shallow men!"
Walter Klein couldn’t stand it any longer and spoke a single sentence that made everyone fall silent. "Isn’t it a good thing that Sixth Master likes women? Would you rather he liked men? If Sixth Master preferred men, wouldn’t our situation become rather... precarious?"
