Chapter 1777: Chapter 1767: Separation (1)

The car rerouted Bo Yan’s previous business venue, where activities were still ongoing with great enthusiasm, due to the navigation.

Xia Siyu’s car took a detour onto the overpass. From the overpass, she could see the ongoing activities at the event venue.

Xia Siyu just needed to turn her head slightly to see Bo Yan standing at the center of the stage, flanked by two people who looked like hosts, interacting with the onlookers below. So far away, and while the vehicle was moving, she could only see Bo Yan’s attire but not his expression or face.

However, she didn’t care about that. Even though she was still angry, she wouldn’t bring personal feelings into work. Besides, constantly thinking about Bo Yan was beneath her. Her life didn’t revolve around just him—she had work, needed to improve herself, and could visit her dad in the hospital. Whether Bo Yan was there or not didn’t make much difference.

"How’s the variety show coming along?"

She suddenly asked, catching Wei Jingjing off guard. Hearing Xia Siyu’s voice, she sounded genuinely low-spirited. Wei Jingjing worried she might be upset because the audition didn’t go well and thus wanted to quickly leave this place and immerse herself in the next job to ease her mood.

"The official recording starts the day after tomorrow, reports are required by tomorrow afternoon, and I’ve already booked the tickets."

"Let’s leave tonight." Xia Siyu didn’t want to stay here any longer since being at home didn’t mean much to her. Better to get to work early and prepare more.

These days, countless celebrities have screwed up on variety shows. One wrong sentence, and you could be criticized and hunted online. She might as well go early and set everything up to avoid being a trending topic for the wrong reasons.

Wei Jingjing didn’t respond, and she turned urgingly: "No tickets?"

"Ah, yes, I’ll go change the booking time."

While Wei Jingjing was changing the booking, she glanced back at Xia Siyu, who was resting her eyes in the back seat. Her emotions seemed stable, but for some reason, Wei Jingjing felt a tinge of unease.

A while ago, though Xia Siyu’s emotions fluctuated dramatically, going this way and that, bouncing all over, Wei Jingjing preferred her erratic temperament over her current calm and unreadable demeanor.

Xia Siyu was the kind of person whose emotions were written all over her face. Whether she was happy or upset, you could tell with one look. She wasn’t someone deep or who spoke in ambiguous terms. Now, Xia Siyu gave her an impression similar to Qin Baizhou and Bo Yan.

Especially back when she worked under Qin Baizhou, who was known as the smiling tiger, always reprimanding with a smile. But a smiling insult was worse than shouting because you could never guess how much anger lay beneath the smile.

Thinking back, when Xia Siyu left Huixing, Wei Jingjing followed her without hesitation—not just out of loyalty but perhaps out of fear of working with him. So every time she saw Song Fengzhi rushing nervously due to Bo Yan’s orders, she felt empathetic. At least Xia Siyu wasn’t like that.

But now...

Wei Jingjing gathered her courage, whispered a question: "Siyu, have I done something wrong recently?"

Xia Siyu wasn’t asleep, and upon hearing, frowned: "What did you do?"

Oh my, that question made her even more frightened: "If I’ve done something wrong, just tell me directly."

When Wei Jingjing turned back, Xia Siyu’s face was right in front of her, startling her: "Have you been secretly in contact with Bo Yan?"

"Huh? No, what contact?" Wei Jingjing denied it three times.

Xia Siyu immediately leaned back on her seat: "Good. Don’t report my schedule to him or talk about my matters, not even a word."

Wei Jingjing nodded: "Oh, okay."

"If I find out you’ve been secretly contacting him, I’ll dock your six months’ salary."

"Oh, okay!" Wei Jingjing quickly nodded.

Though speechless, at least Xia Siyu used a discourse marker now, showing her likes and dislikes clearly.

Xia Siyu puzzled: "You’re so happy about getting your salary docked? Should I report to finance and donate your six months’ salary to the company now?"

"No way!" Wei Jingjing immediately refused.

After she relaxed a bit, noticing Xia Siyu’s stable mood, she asked again, "How was your audition today?"

Xia Siyu thought it over: "Not so good."

Apparently, her bad mood was justified. Wei Jingjing immediately comforted her, "It’s okay. What’s the point of playing a minor role in Hollywood? It’s better to make more films in the country and aim for awards..."

Before she could finish, her phone vibrated with an email notification. These days, emails often come from abroad. Upon opening, she found that Xia Siyu’s audition was successful, and she would attend another meeting in a few days.

That meeting was likely a formal introduction with the director to discuss film details, concepts, and maybe another internal audition before final approval.

But passing the first round meant there likely wouldn’t be much obstruction moving forward. Unless there were issues with the salary or schedule, a backup plan might be considered. However, Xia Siyu was unlikely to have issues with salary or schedule, so it was safe to say she passed the test.

She promptly relayed the news to Xia Siyu: "The audition just passed."

Xia Siyu replied with an "oh" without much facial expression as if she expected it.

Although enthusiasm for Hollywood isn’t what it used to be, it’s still something to celebrate, a good opportunity regardless. It seemed, though, that Xia Siyu’s mood primarily revolved around Bo Yan.

Though she couldn’t fully understand why Xia Siyu and Bo Yan were on such bad terms, judging by her tone just now, Xia Siyu still hadn’t cooled down. At times like these, it’s better to give her some distance. "I’ll inform the program team that you’ll be absent for two days during recording, so they can prepare in advance."

Xia Siyu acknowledged this with an indifferent "Oh." After a while, she added another sentence: "Pack up quickly; I want to leave early."

Wei Jingjing agreed promptly and quickly booked a flight. As it was already late, only a midnight flight was available, but Xia Siyu didn’t mind. Her intention was to leave as early as possible, preventing any chance of crossing paths with Bo Yan.

Due to the sudden change of plans, Wei Jingjing first dropped her off at the Qingcheng apartment and went back to pack her luggage.
