It is said that the Buddhists and Taoists arrayed their forces and engaged in magical combat within the Imperial Palace of the Great Han. On one side, King Bodhisattva came forward, challenging to combat the Primordial Spirits. Thus, both parties sat down in meditation, gathered their spirits, and demonstrated their Divine Skills. Astonishing phenomena appeared before the spectators, leaving them wide-eyed and speechless, greatly shaken and awed.
Here, Daoist Equal to Heaven and King Bodhisattva both rose to their feet and let out a long cry that shook the heavens and earth. One formed a hand seal while the other held a Dharma Seal, setting the stage for a clash between Taoist Arts and Buddhist Divine Skills!
The Primordial Spirit of King Bodhisattva transformed into a Great Buddha with a Golden Body, his appearance majestic and dignified. The Primordial Spirit of Daoist Equal to Heaven also took the form of a Golden Body. What was the attire of this Golden Body? It was the exact image of Patriarch Subhuti, dressed in Taoist attire and imbued with the temperament of Confucianism, yet radiating the brilliance of Buddhism—a perfect embodiment of the Unity of the Three Teachings. However, the face of this Golden Body belonging to Daoist Equal to Heaven was his own, not Patriarch Subhuti’s. Transforming into the likeness of Patriarch Subhuti could perhaps, in the mysterious workings of fate, absorb some causal power, but that would ultimately be someone else’s path, not his own.
King Bodhisattva’s expression wasn’t pleasant as he solemnly said, “Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism united—such significant divine prowess!”
Daoist Equal to Heaven also spoke, “The power of the Water Spirit within your Primordial Spirit is also considerable. It seems you’ve greatly benefited from capturing so many masters from the Aquatic Tribes!”
A fleeting, ominous glint passed through the eyes of King Bodhisattva. He had not expected his secret capture of Aquatic Tribe masters to be known, so now he was even more resolved to kill this Daoist Equal to Heaven here! His hand seal morphed into a Lotus Seal, and his Primordial Spirit soared, flying toward the Primordial Spirit of Daoist Equal to Heaven.
Both of their Primordial Spirits transformed into forms over ten feet tall, dazzling with golden light, making it impossible for onlookers to gaze directly at them without harming their eyes.
The Primordial Spirit of King Bodhisattva charged forth with a roaring attack, launching a massive hand seal! Their battle was not a contention of the True Qi of Magical Power but of spirit. Each strike was condensed from spirit, and if one’s spirit dissipated, their Primordial Spirit would perish, and with the Primordial Spirit containing the Three Souls and Seven Spirits, the physical body would be rendered useless.
Hence, using the Primordial Spirit to battle was extremely fierce and dangerous. The great hand seal from King Bodhisattva, condensed from spirit, struck with the force of a mountain bearing down.
Daoist Equal to Heaven, chanting the Nine-character True Words of Taoism, formed the “Mysterious Heavenly Supreme Deity with Sword Finger,” a Sword Technique empowered by the True Martial Demon Conqueror of Mysterious Heaven. Immediately, his Primordial Spirit conjured a Divine Sword in hand.
Daoist Equal to Heaven, holding the sword, struck down, shattering the massive hand seal and sending Sword Qi slashing toward King Bodhisattva’s body all around.
King Bodhisattva chanted True Words, continuously changing hand seals, and his Primordial Spirit transformed into a massive Golden Lion. Looking dominant, his hand seal was clearly the Lion Seal!
The lion within the teachings of West Cow He State represents courage and firmness. His Primordial Spirit was fierce, opening its gaping maw, and aimed directly for the head of Daoist Equal to Heaven.
“Five Thunders Spell!” Daoist Equal to Heaven recited an Oral Spell, invoking Thunder Magic. This was a pure conversion of spirit into Mana to exercise Divine Skills—a perilous action, for if one’s spirit was inadequate, their Magical Powers and Spells would falter and backlash upon the caster. Thus, both had adjusted themselves for an hour beforehand to focus their spirits.
“Crack!”
The robes of Daoist Equal to Heaven flared, Mastering the Five Thunders, originating from his palm, striking down fiercely. His true form fiercely formed the Zhenwu Demon-Subduing Divine Fist, and his Primordial Spirit’s palm morphed into a fist, flashing with thunder, and struck out! A resounding bang echoed, dizzying the onlookers as the surging force of spirit was overwhelming. If it weren’t for the Dragon Vein’s fortune suppressing the Imperial City, the spectators would likely vomit blood from faintness or have their souls shattered.
Those who do not cultivate only possess a soul, not a Primordial Spirit. Yet, almost every cultivator has a Primordial Spirit. Buddhists cultivate the Primordial Spirit and also train the Golden Body and Sharira, their methods dedicated to the cultivation of the “Next Life.”
Daoist Equal to Heaven’s fist thundered upon the massive head of the Golden Lion, causing it to roar in pain, its Golden light dispersing slightly, wounding King Bodhisattva’s spirit.
King Bodhisattva immediately paled, formed another hand seal, and another transformation followed. Daoist Equal to Heaven instantly felt as if submerged in a mire, enveloped by an immense Water Spirit power that King Bodhisattva condensed, making movement as difficult as wading through mud.
“Precious Vase Seal!”
A Precious Vase appeared above the head of King Bodhisattva, emitting a glow, and as it aligned with the Primordial Spirit of Daoist Equal to Heaven, it unleashed a fierce white light!
“Boom!”
A sound like thunder, and Daoist Equal to Heaven’s face turned deathly pale instantly, his Primordial Spirit’s brightness also scattering significantly, causing him to inwardly curse.
This was a technique of the Esoteric Sect of Buddhism, overseen by Tathagata through his embodiment as Mahavairocana and the Five Great Wisdom Kings. The Dharma Seal of King Bodhisattva, learned from them, was notably mysterious, able to greatly enhance his power, with each seal holding its unique force.
“This bald old monk must have refined numerous Aquatic Tribe masters. His Primordial Spirit is so formidable, and full of the Power of the Water Spirit. I fear I might lose this battle,” thought Daoist Equal to Heaven. Yet, he didn’t panic, realizing that losing his composure now would mean certain death.
Daoist Equal to Heaven quickly tossed his Samsara Pen upward, caught by his Primordial Spirit, then drew in the void, producing a large “Break” character, unleashing a sweeping force that blasted open the Water Spirit power, freeing his Primordial Spirit from the mire.
Emperor Ming of Han exclaimed, “Such immense divine skills from these two masters! I can’t tell who is the mightier.”
From the brow of King Bodhisattva appeared a golden Sharira, which rose into the air, transforming into eighteen types of weapons. The Primordial Spirit sprouted eighteen arms and grasped each weapon—axes, halberds, hooks, and spears—demonstrating unparalleled fierceness. On the other hand, Daoist Equal to Heaven only wielded a Samsara Pen, appearing as a Great Confucian by the river, commanding the world, but in terms of appearance, he still fell short compared to King Bodhisattva. However, scholars of Confucianism from the Han dynasty felt that Daoist Equal to Heaven was slightly superior.
“Good Daoist, taste my divine skills!” King Bodhisattva shouted. The eighteen arms swung, and the eighteen weapons simultaneously struck, creating a thunderous momentum.
Daoist Equal to Heaven took a deep breath, lifted his pen and sketched the character for “shield” in the void, instantly conjuring a large shield with the power of the Samsara Pen interwoven within it. The eighteen weapons struck down simultaneously, hacking at the shield and causing it to splinter with cracking sounds.
One of King Bodhisattva’s arms retracted, now holding the Sword of Wisdom. He thrust the sword forward, piercing the shield with a hiss.
“Alas!”
A murmur of astonishment erupted from the crowd, as it seemed that Buddhism indeed had the upper hand, and Daoist Equal to Heaven was on the verge of defeat.
Frowning, Daoist Equal to Heaven let his Samsara Pen drop further, unleashing a six-colored divine light that made contact with the sword. King Bodhisattva suddenly felt the sword slipping out of his control, drawn by a tremendous force, and before he could react, the sword vanished into the cycle of reincarnation in a flash.
“Is this the Samsara Pen?” As his sword was taken away and his vitality damaged, King Bodhisattva felt uncomfortable, “No, this must be a mere imitation; were it the real Samsara Pen, a casual scribble of my name would suffocate me with karmic forces, burning me with Karmic Fire. I am no Buddha Ancestor, capable of standing unscathed in Karmic Fire for five hundred years.”
Now having the upper hand, King Bodhisattva certainly wasn’t going to let Daoist Equal to Heaven turn the tide. He took a deep breath, changed the hand seal, and the seventeen weapons merged into a Buddha Bead. Sanskrit enveloped the bead, which struck like a meteor from beyond the heavens, making it unavoidable.
Quickly activating his Samsara Pen, Daoist Equal to Heaven tried to respond, but the Buddha Bead moved too swiftly. Just as he made a stroke, barely grazing the surface, he was struck in the chest. His Primordial Spirit was blasted away, his own face flushed red, his throat sweet, and a mouthful of fresh blood sprayed from his throat.
“This Mao Bodhisattva is truly ferocious!” Daoist Equal to Heaven thought to himself, quickly stabilizing his Primordial Spirit and drawing a large shield to block the Sharira.
King Bodhisattva said, “If you surrender now, I won’t kill you today. All you need to admit is that your Taoist Arts are inferior to our Buddhist Law.”
Wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth and slowly exhaling a breath, Daoist Equal to Heaven defiantly replied, “The outcome is not yet decided, don’t be too arrogant!”
King Bodhisattva sneered repeatedly, “You won’t shed tears without seeing the coffin, then let this poor monk send you on your last journey!”
Recently, King Bodhisattva had captured many experts from the Aquatic Tribes, extracting the Power of Water Spirit from within them, nourishing his own Primordial Spirit, making it unprecedentedly strong among his peers. Unless someone was several levels higher in realm than him, competing with his Primordial Spirit was not an option. Daoist Equal to Heaven was also favored by heaven; his Primordial Spirit was strong, otherwise, he would have already been utterly destroyed by King Bodhisattva. However, the situation was now highly perilous, with King Bodhisattva’s myriad skills and miraculous transformations. Without a reversal, he would likely be defeated. Prideful and staunch, Daoist Equal to Heaven would never concede defeat to King Bodhisattva.
Emperor Ming of Han rose to his feet, muttering, “It seems my dream was truly auspicious, confirming that Buddhism is indeed more sublime than Taoist Arts.”
Liu Cang watched, sweating profusely, only hoping for Daoist Equal to Heaven to turn defeat into victory and defeat the Bodhisattva.
Daoist Equal to Heaven couldn’t help but laugh heartily, “King Bodhisattva, you think it’s so easy to defeat me?”
King Bodhisattva, not one to waste a perfect chance to strike during a verbal exchange, changed his hand seal as the Sharira broke the shield and headed straight for Daoist Equal to Heaven again.
This time, Daoist Equal to Heaven truly faced a desperate situation—no escape from heaven above, no portal on earth below! The Sharira arrived swiftly, dazzling with golden light and surrounded by the sounds of Buddhist chants, as if nothing could withstand its force.
Yang Jian furrowed his brows, preparing to intervene lest Daoist Equal to Heaven lose his life to King Bodhisattva.
However, Shemoteng and Zhufalan just laughed, “Is True Lord Erlang about to concede defeat?”
Yang Jian clenched his teeth secretly; these two monks circled from both sides. Though their mana was not high, they could still entangle him for a moment.
As Daoist Equal to Heaven’s prospects seemed dim and uncertain, please stay tuned for the next episode to find out what happens.
