The bastard child becomes the empires royal consort-Chapter 63: We meet again [2]
Soon after they stepped out of the Grand Terminal, Alan spotted a stone bench under the shade of a tall tree overlooking the entire water bay, offering am extensive view of the ocean.
He didnโt even say anything, he just pointed to the bench, and the group collapsed on it. ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ซ๐ฃ๐ธ๐ซ๐ฎ๐.๐๐๐ถ
Alan sat down sideways, half-lying against the cold stone backrest, while Julia took the spot beside him, Iris opted for the ground, resting her back against the benchโs base, and Lucian leaned into the trunk of the tree, flipping the pages of his little book.
Sparky scaled the tree, perching himself on a long branch like a bird rather than a cat.
For a long time, neither of them spoke, just simply gazing at the view ahead of them until Iris broke the peaceful silence.
"So." She started, her voice low. "Whatโs the actual plan?"
"I donโt know..." Alan groaned, leaning his head against the cold stone.
From the start, there was never any real plan to begin with, Alan was genuinely going with the flow, now for the first time since leaving his home, he hit a wall.
"Didnโt we need identification?" Lucian asked without looking up from his page.
"Well, that was for buying a ticket." Alan reminded him. "But now that the ships themselves are suspended, whatโs the point?"
"Hmm." Lucian hummed.
"Not to mention." Alan spoke up, crossing his arms, he pulled out a crumpled newspaper. "Our little group name has become a very big issue now."
Before they left the terminal, the receptionist handed Alan the newspaper, allowing him to become aware of the latest news circling around him.
And he surely didnโt expect to see the information bounty for his group to just skyrocket out of nowhere.
"Why do we even have an information bounty?" Alan muttered under his breath.
Alan couldnโt quite understand, information bounty was obviously different from an actual bounty, which made it weirder, why would they want information from a group of unknowns?
And why would it increase even further after they publicly harassed an entire tavern? Of course he doesnโt expect to be rushed by hunters that are after his head, but it is still uncomfortable having their locations revealed every now and then.
"At least the name sounds catchy." Julia whispered, her eyes half closed.
"Julia..." Alan looked at Julia with a weird face. "It just soundโs like we enjoy typing people up or being tied up? And the news isnโt exactly doing us any justice either."
"How did we even end up with such a name?" Iris questioned, baffled.
"I donโt know..." Alan averted his eyes and lied through his teeth.
"So our options are." Lucian suddenly cut in, raising his fingers. "Somehow board the ship leaving tomorrow and get really good at swimming or learn to walk underwater."
"I vote for the boat." Iris said firmly.
As Lucian and Iris kept discussing, Alan felt Juliaโs head grow heavier on his shoulder, it didnโt take long before her breathing settled into a steady rhythm of sleep as she suddenly drifted off.
"Letโs just think tomorrow, first we need to find a place to stay the night and have something to eat." Alan sighed, gently closing his eyes. "But... letโs just stay here for a bit longer first."
Lucian and Iris glanced at him, then up at the bright, afternoon sky, the sun was still high, bathing the indigo bay in a shimmering, deceptive gold, Lucian went back to his book, while Iris stared out at the horizon.
A heavy, peaceful silence settled over the bench, broken only by the distant crying of birds and the rhythmic crashes of the ocean waves.
The stench of the ocean clung to Alanโs nose as he briefly rested his eyes, reminding him once more that he was far from home.
...
The clouds were dripping with a bruised purple by the time the group left the bench, they couldnโt stay in the place forever, only leaving once Julia woke up.
This time, rather than walking through the harbour, the group decided to wander the streets of Kahl.
They saw the general vision of the streets in the carriage as they passed by, but experiencing it all personally, really solidified the opinion of the city being far more lively than the capital ever was.
Unlike Elera, the capital of the Northern continent, the seaport city wasnโt divided by districts based upon the statuses of someoneโs inheritance.
Which was nice to see, the unique lifestyle and carefree expressions of the residents of Kahl were much different than they were in Elera, like they werenโt restricted.
The bazaar was loud, every turn they took in the city, they were only greeted by the loud salesman voices of vendors selling goods with great varieties.
There were open sectors in certain places where live performances took place, practicing all kinds of wild entertainments.
At one point, they passed by a group of fire-breathers performing for a circle of crowd until one took a particular interest in Lucian, with a mischievous grin, he blew a large plume of flame at Lucian.
Who in return simply froze the performers and the entire building behind them, luckily they ran out of there before anything happened.
Either way, after passing time like that and experimenting with all sorts of cultural foods and accessories, they finally stood before a long wooden building.
"Is this the place?" Alan asked Lucian.
On the way to Kahl, Alan made sure to create a list of places they must visit after endlessly questioning Jack about it.
And made Lucian keep track of it all, after all, Alan wasnโt the type to enjoy leading every desicions, in fact, he would much prefer simply following others rather than having to lead them.
Also, Lucian was also great at management, so it really wasnโt an issue to leave problems to Lucian, because if something did happen to go wrong, he could just blame Lucian.
"I believe so." Lucian nodded.
"Hmm." Alan rubbed his chin.
They stood before an extremely large building, with a sign that read โThe Gulping Grouphersโ.
The naming choice of the establishment right off the start isnโt amazing, but their building was a tavern.
Which could solve many of their issues for the day, taverns served as a fully functional restaurant while also offering rooms to stay for nights, making it highly convenient.
The scent before they even entered the place was already pleasant, the mouth-watering aroma of grilled meat, and that was enough for him to enter the building.
As Alan pushed open the heavy oak door, a wall of heat and noise hit them, the stench of the place was filled with the scent of tobacco and alcohol, overriding the previous pleasant aroma, yet it also felt as if it naturally belonged.
The moment they stepped inside, the tavern didnโt go silent, all too busy or drunk to care about any of the newcomers.
Unlike the trading post, no waitress came to serve them the moment they entered, thus Alan pushed the messy, tangled crowd of drunks, leading the group through the place.
Traversing through the crowd like walking through mazes, Alan found a nice table in the corner of the tavern a fair distance away from all the noisy chatter happening in the building.
